  • Worked flawlessly

Worked perfectly to get my rope 60' on the branch I needed.

Style Name: Upgrade with Trigger
I've only done about 10 test launches with this in the field, but so far it seems like it will be perfect for what I need as a homeowner DIYing some tree care. If I were looking at this professionally, I might have some hesitations, but again, I'm just a homeowner. Two main issues are the trigger mechanism and strap locking mechanism are a little fiddly. For one, the trigger mechanism can prematurely fire if you're not careful (to prevent this it seems best to lift the trigger fully "upward" after you have placed the pouch ring in the jaws and closed them, if you leave the trigger "halfcocked" the jaws will simply release under too much strain. Second, the little strap biting/locking mechanism that is supposed to hold the strain of the straps as you tighten doesn't have enough "bite" and the straps will slip under high tension. However, I've found if I pinch the straps under tension against the tube between pulls, it won't slip, and when you get to the desired tightness, push downward on that little "biting/locking" mechanism to get it to dig in and hold the strap tight. Then and only then can I let go of everything, begin to aim and fire. If not for those issues, it would be 5 stars (and maybe with more use these things will break in and hold better on their own), but overall I'm pleased with it at the price point compared to the "pro" options. The components seem pretty robust and I imagine it will last many years with proper care taken. EDIT: I'm back after removing about 8 trees over 4 days. The finickiness of the trigger and strap lock still remains, but I'm overall still impressed and don't see how I could do the job without this device. I'm upgrading my review from 4 to 5 stars because of how useful this has turned out to be. One thing I would add to my original review, is you will absolutely need the trigger kit add-on to use this to it's full potential. It would be virtually impossible to stretch the sling shot all the way to the base to get maximum launch height without it. Well worth the extra $20 bucks or so. ... show more

  • Slipping tension strap problem solved!! Slipping tension strap problem solved!!
Style Name: Upgrade with Trigger
This product appears to have the strength and capabilities that I need to get a rope on some higher branches of trees that I want to cut down so that I have the leverage to pull them (with pulleys, winch, tractor, car etc) in the direction I want them to fall. But I immediately encountered the tension strap slipping issue complained of by others. Was going to return the item as I regarded this as a fatal flaw and was not going to manually try to pinch the strap against the pole to make it work properly. I wondered how they could market the product with such a glaring design flaw. Then I examined the manner in which the strap was run (the bottom section of pole with the metal base adjustment-with set screw and riveted pin loop and strap was pre-attached to the trigger) directly through the locking clasp with teeth on the trigger mechanism. With only the teeth holding the strap in place the strap would slide right through the teeth with almost any amount of tension. I then pulled the strap out of the metal bottom piece and reversed its path by feeding it from inside (closest to the pole) and then back up over the riveted pin on the base up toward the trigger. Then over the stitched end of the strap (the bottom riveted pin of the trigger mechanism) and through the teeth of the clasp from the inside. The picture shows the path of the strap. Voila!! The tensioning strap works as it should--no slipping through the teeth. Looping the strap over the bottom riveted pin on the trigger mechanism and then through the teethed clasp (from the pole side of the clasp) holds the strap in place as you pull it down and through and add increasing tension. Simply pull the loose end of strap (taped a loop in the pic) to tension the sling. I have not pulled the trigger all the way down the pole but far enough to enable me to throw a 15oz bag at least 50 ft up on a tree limb. This is all I need and is truly a one man operation. It might take an assistant to try to make a 150 throw as the tension and resistance increase significantly as you pull down on the strap. The strap path as shipped is probably done incorrectly by someone in packaging/shipping who does not understand how this is supposed to work. Correct the strap path per above and this device will work as described. Will update this review after having more experience with it. ... show more

  • I feel like a sniper
Style Name: Upgrade with Trigger
Throwing a rope into a tree by hand takes practice, and since I only do it a few times a year, I'm less than proficient at it. That's why I wanted to try a Tree Sling (at least that's what I call it) as it was taking me longer to get the rope in the tree, than it was to cut the tree down. I'll break this review down like I normally do into smaller paragraphs to make it easier to understand. (Inspection) No concerns here, as there were no cosmetic or mechanical flaws. All of the advertised parts were in the bag. (Assembly) A colored instruction sheet is included, but better yet, I would refer to the online description as it's easier to visualize. All parts went together easily, and seem very well made, this is definitely not a toy. (The main event) Now for the fun part, it's time to (try) to shoot the throw rope into a tree. To practice, I flung a few select sized rocks into the woods behind my house, and was impressed with its accuracy and power. Next I connected the throw line, and shot it into the notch of a tree, and although I didn't land it on my first attempt, I was able to land it faster than I could have if I'd flung it by hand. (Storage bad) A green canvas, cloth like bag is included with the tree sling, along with a pair of cotton gloves. I'll be using the bag to store the throw line and misc items in. (The trigger) I found the trigger easy to set up and release. Its construction seems more than adequate. I didn't experience any misfires while testing it. (Replacement parts) I'm not sure if replacement parts are available, such as the elastic bands or pouch. That doesn't mean parts aren't available, I just couldn't locate them. But in fairness to the manufacturer, I didn't contact them directly to inquire. (Safety) I highly recommend you wear safety glasses, (remember Newton's third law). I can only imagine the end result of getting hit in the face by one of the bands. (Electrical rating) I wasn't expecting to find any sort of electrical rating on this product, yet there is a sticker stating that it is rated. As an ex-lineman we would routinely test our hotsticks with certified test equipment. Lacking the ability to test the slingshot, leads me to disregard any sort of claim related to its electrical properties. No where in the online description does it state that it is electrically safe to (X) number of volts. Practice, Practice and Practice some more, that's the only way you're going to get proficient at using a tree sling. But once you're good at it, you'll be surprised at what you're capable of doing. Heights that were previously unheard of, now lay within easy reach. ... show more

  • It works It works
Style Name: Upgrade with Trigger
Its $200 less then most online. It works, but not flawlessly. For high launches you have to pull the strap and hold it while aiming which can take some strength and practice. The locking mechanism for the trigger can hold against the resistance for any shots higher then 50ft. The pole is several pieces that come together and they easily spin and lose alignment which can result in some bad shots so you have to make sure its tight and everything is aligned every shot or add some thread tape or something so it dosnt unscrew so easily... Id say this is perfect for a homeowner trying to tackle the job themselves ... show more
