  • Expensive, but it works!
For those reviewers who found that this didn't work well: perhaps your mattress is too soft, so that the ball sank in and wasn't uncomfortable enough to keep you on your side. Lose the mattress topper, or get a firm one. This thing WORKS. Even if you succeed in rolling onto your back and getting in a couple of snores, the discomfort will catch up to you pretty quickly on a moderately firm mattress (and yes, I did this experiment myself). It's hard to believe I'd write such a positive review for a product that has made me so miserably uncomfortable and changed a deeply engrained, lifetime habit and preference - starting on night one. But apnea is deadly, and it turns out that I want to live to a healthy old age slightly more than I want to sleep on my back. The Snore Lab app told me that I snore like a wild boar. A sleep study told me that I stop breathing 100 times per night, nearly always when I'm on my back. So it was CPAP or side sleeping. This device is cheaper than CPAP, so I tried it first. It's been a month, and the change is profound. Yes, my neck, back, and hips are complaining a lot, since they are not used to this position, but it's getting better and I'm tinkering with pillows. So if you're uncomfortable initially, well, yeah, you're supposed to be! It hurts to roll onto a big hard ball! If you need more discomfort, there's room for an additional tennis ball in there with the cork ball. I will say that the straps are intended for a bigger person than I am, and I need to tighten them regularly, as they tend to slip. Also, the shoulder/over the head part is too loose, so I do have a few problems with stability. But it is far more secure, and comfortable to wear, when snug than I imagined. This thing is totally worthwhile! ... show more

  • A Game Changer!
I’ve been looking for a solution to keep me sleeping on my side. Having previously tried air backpacks with minimal success, I was pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of this. Unlike the air backpack, which I could still manage to sleep on my back with, the ApneaShield's unique design ensures that the ball stays perfectly in place on my back. This is also really breathable. With the air backpack, I often found myself waking up feeling overheated and uncomfortable. The ApneaShield's material allows for excellent air flow. It's a significant upgrade in terms of comfort and has made a world of difference in my quality of sleep. It's also very comfortable and barely noticeable while I'm sleeping on my side. I also no longer require a CPAP machine because of this, so long as I can stay on my side overnight. This has been a game-changer for me. It outperforms previous solutions I've tried and delivers on its promises of comfort, breathability, and effectiveness. If you're looking for a reliable way to ensure you stay sleeping on your side and want to improve your overall sleep quality, I highly recommend giving this a try. ... show more

  • Great Idea
But not so much a great outcome. The ball had to be padded with extra socks for comfort.

  • Difficult to get used to, but it has improved my sleep apnea
I am a retired Family Medicine physician suffering from sleep apnea I tried t-shirts but this vest is light, airy, compact thus easy to take on travels. I switched out the cork ball included (too hard & painful) for a rubber lacrosse ball. My apnea spells have decreased somewhat as recorded by a nighttime oximetry sensor that I wear on left 4th finger. (EMAY pulse oximeter $68.98) ... show more

  • Won’t work if you’re so tired that you still sleep on your back
My husband found this comfortable to wear, and it does have adjustable straps that prevent it from sliding around too much like the SlumberBump we tried previously. But I still find him sleeping on his back snoring, the ball digging into his back without waking him up. One solution might be to tie a thick towel around the ball so he physically can’t roll onto his back. But for $60 the ball should be so uncomfortable that he can’t roll over onto it without waking up, and it’s not preventing him from sleeping on his back. ... show more

  • Keeps me off my back, but the ball is uncomfortable
Seems to work great, had it about a week. The ball wakes me up a bit when I roll onto it and it hurts my back - I suppose this is part of the design, it's supposed to be uncomfortable so you move but damn. Thinking about switching out the ball for a tennis ball. The harness thing itself is comfortable, adjustable, and holds the ball in place. I'd recommend it! Just wish I could be more comfortable wearing it when I sleep. ... show more

  • Perfect and may help avoid needing CPAP machine
Keeps me off my back for sleep apnea prevention. Well made, easy to use, simple and does the job. Took a week or so to get used to but now not the least bit of bother. If you have sleep apnea that is completely position-dependent, I think this can avoid needing a CPAP machine.

  • Works well
My husband and I are both wearing one. I would probably give it 4 stars for me and 5 stars for him. It does keep us off our backs and helps keep our oxygen levels more stable throughout the night. I give it 4 stars for myself as a female because the front strap is just a little too wide to fit nicely between the breasts, but it is soft a fairly flexible so I’ve gotten used to it. ... show more
