Let me state unequivocally that I do not hunt wild animals. I purchased this with the idea of using it to cut trees for my grandparents. I've read that saddle hunting, which allows you to fire archery from inside, is considerably safer than using tree stands. If you can move around to get better shooting angles, why not saw limbs from trees while wearing this hunting saddle? Because this is my first hunting saddle, I have nothing to compare it to in terms of functionality. I tested it on for size, comfort, and security after receiving it. That was after researching the precise purpose and functional operation of each feature of this saddle. Even after familiarizing myself with everything, the directions were unhelpful. The bridge strap lacks carabiners on both sides and does not link to D-rings on either side. It's merely webbing tied into what appeared to be a Schwabisch Hitch on one side of the bridge strap loop and a loop put onto the bridge strap loop on the other. Even if you wanted to add carabiners on each side, the side that was built onto the strap loop is not removable. The quick connect adjustment buckle appears to be extremely secure and comparable to others I've seen. The requirement to press both sides of the buckle simultaneously in order for it to release is a useful safety feature. The belt, as well as the buckles on the leg straps, are adjustable to meet individual preferences. Except for the waist strap, which is a larger version, all three buckles are identical. All are involved in the same operation. Another feature is the sliding band on each strap through which you can thread the excess strap to keep it from dangling around your legs. The back panel contains a reinforced top and bottom band, as well as loops along the upper band for attaching hunting accouterments. The rear panel's body is comprised of sturdy breathable mesh to aid airflow on those blazing hot days and humid nights. That feature, perhaps, will enhance air movement, reducing sweating and possibly eliminating chaffing. Of course, I had to add more objects to use this and determine its suitability. I felt safe in my position after attaching the tether with a carabiner to the bridge strap and a lineman's belt to the lineman's loop on each side, which are not supplied with this saddle. So I decided to move around with my chainsaw in hand, performing limb-chopping motions. This was a good hold for tree trimming in my opinion. I do advocate pruning limbs at least 6" from the trunk to ensure that any cuts are made safely away from any dangling positioning ropes or lines. I do recommend this for a secure hanging seat or hammock that allows you to move in a variety of different angles without compromising the secure position. ... show more

    • Simple tree saddle for expanding my hunting options
This appears reasonably well made and I expect to get good use out of it between myself and my boys. The tree saddle opens up some options for us and is much lighter than the traditional tree stand to haul in the woods and hang up and take back down.

    • Practice installing makes it better to shoot out of.
I liked that you can shoot traditional archery out of it. I really like that it is lightweight and compact. The more you practice with it makes it better. Another bonus it is mobile so if you see more activity in another area you move, unlike a tree stand much more work to move it. What I didn’t like is the saddle could be a little wider. ... show more

    • This will do but I wouldn’t completely trust it.
I liked the idea of this tree saddle and I will admit that I’ve only used this one time and it would work but, I wouldn’t trust it to keep me from hitting the ground if I had to be hanging awhile. It’s isn’t that comfortable but, it is better I’m sure than hitting the ground. I’ll try it out more when hunting season comes around. ... show more

Pros: Padded Adjustable Comfortable Durable Lightweight Simple Cons: None What I received in the package: 1 x SKIGUARD Lightweight Tree Saddle This SKIGUARD Lightweight Tree Saddle product is the first one of these that I have used. I have plenty of experience with tree stands but not the saddles. I am 5’10’, 185 lbs and this hammock style saddle was comfortable and forgiving. It can accommodate a waist size from 26” - 40” and the synthetic rope has a weight rating of 300 lbs. The rope bridge is 33” so there is plenty of flexibility to adjust it exactly to your needs. It weights on 20oz. I was not very familiar with these so I watched a few online videos to educate myself on the gotchas. It took me a number of attempts to really start getting comfortable with the mechanics of how this worked. Fortunately I have rock climbing experience so it has similar methodology as to how it operates, But there is a learning curve to determine what your groove will be as far as how quickly / comfortably you can move. As well as figuring out the support system and how to optimize its use to take as more effort off of you during your ascent / descent as possible. I appreciate you taking the time to read this. All in all, I found this saddle to be relatively comfortable. For how long remains to be seen but I could see where this has its advantages. I would think this would be more suitable for shorter stays in the trees vs. a tree stand. It also has a limited weight capacity but should be effective for most hunters. But it works and in testing starts to produce some pain in my waist after several hours in position. Hope this information was helpful. [4 Stars] ... show more

    • Easy to use
Very comfortable The buckles are very easy to use and seem like high quality. It is very easy to put on and off. It is my first saddle so I can’t compare but for a much cheaper price than a tethered saddle you can’t go wrong.
