Shoes are narrow and insoles are very cheap
Size: 9.5 Color: Earth
Really like the style of the shoe but these shoes are very narrow I have narrow feet and they fit tighter than my other shoes. The insoles are very cheap. For the brand and the money I expect a lot more. I feel like with these shoes your paying for the name. Now to see how they hold up . I have my doubts! C-mon Sitka I expected more .. ... show more

Solid built shoes
Size: 9 Color: Black
The sitka ascent trail shoes are durable with nice toe protection and a removable insole which I always appreciate. I ordered the size 9 since I wear an 11 in women's, straight out of the box these are a bit snug in the forefoot, and I do not have wide feet. These have required a couple of days to break them in, and now that they are getting more broken in they are very comfortable, grippy, and supportive. The only thing that bothers me about them now is that they squeak and make noise when you walk (not ideal for hunting in my opinion). I've actually used them mostly for cycling, and because of their hard supportive sole they have performed very well there! Normal sneakers are too soft for me and cause foot pain when I cycle, and my current cycling shoes are on their last leg, so the fact that these work so well is an unexpected bonus. I particularly like the reenforced toe protection and the laces which are a rough material, but never seem to come untied on their own. I think these shoes look good enough to wear around, not just on the trails. Though they are a little expensive, if you have time to break these in a little bit, they are comfortable, supportive, and good looking shoes. ... show more

Great trail shoe with all day comfort right out of the box.
Size: 11 Color: Black
Sitka Ascent Trail Shoes: Black, men's US size 11. Incredible trail shoes, that I found to offer good support, grip, and all day comfort. I highly recommend considering these shoes if you're wanting to hit the trails in comfort. First off, I've hiked a lot over the past few decades. My dad took me to the Alum Cave trail when I was a youngster in the late 70's or early 80's, and I've had to get out in nature ever since. It's my favorite past time and I'll partake in both day hikes or multi day back country hiking excursions. I historically always wore hiking boots, both leather and synthetic uppers, and typically mid height for some ankle coverage and support. A few years ago I got into trail running and added trail shoes to my repertoire. I got in the habit of wearing the trail running shoes for almost all of my excursions, and now only wear mid height boots if I'm hitting very rugged and/steep terrain. My point for all of that is I've tried a lot of gear and modern trail shoes are the way to go, in my opinion. I'm a fan of Sitka gear and believe they produce high quality product. So, I was pretty excited to try their Ascent shoes. I went with the black pair in size 11, which is my typical shoe size. Impressions: The shoes fit true to size, with the US size 11 fitting me perfectly. The width of the shoe is fantastic. I'm typically a standard size (I never need to order narrow or wide when it's an offered option) and these nailed the sweet spot where they provide good support, somehow keep your feet from sliding around inside of them, yet avoid feeling restrictive. I didn't need to aggressively pull the laces to get appropriate tension coverage all around my feet. They conformed to my feet really, really well. The toe box also found the perfect sweet spot. Kind of in between Saucony and Keen (Not casting shade. I love and own both brands. Just giving reference for folks to make relatable and informed decisions). Comfort right out of the box. I decided to challenge the shoes a bit in this category, so I didn't wear them around casually to break them in. The first time I wore them, I headed to a section of the NCT in Michigan. I didn't go crazy, but put in 4.31 miles. It was the in the Yankee Springs/Gun Lake area so not a lot of elevation, but some hills, some sand, some roots, and some ruts. No discomfort, no blisters, no rubbing. The next day I went for 3.58 miles in the Hocking Hills area of Ohio. I did the Conkle Hollows trails, both upper and lower. These gorgeous trails, have some obstacles insofar as lots (and lots) of roots, some slick rock, a small area of boulders, some stairs, and some elevation changes. No discomfort, no blisters, no rubbing. I liked the area and camped at the state park that night. The shoes remained comfortable enough to where I didn't rush to take them off once I set up camp, and they stayed on my feet until I climbed up into my tent. The following day I explored the trail systems in the State park there and did 9.08 miles that morning. No blisters, rubbing, or discomfort. I got a little busy and didn't get the shoes back on for about 2 weeks. But, I put them on and took a stroll, about 50/50 paved and dirt roads, for 6.51 miles. No blisters, rubbing, or discomfort. So, the first 4 times I wore the shoes, I hiked about 23.5 miles over varied terrain and found them to be really comfortable. I'm honestly really impressed that I didn't get a single blister. That's never happened before. The build quality is what you'd expect from a premium brand. The materials are tough and the construction is sold as a rock. I really appreciated the grip and protection provided around the toes. It comes in handy and really helps secure the upper to the sole, too. The shoes are nice looking. Even the basic black is a sharp shoe. It elicited the "oh those look nice" from my wife. The tread grip is great. I've got other shoes with a similar tread pattern and have found this style to be my favorite. It has done great on any surface type that I've tossed at it. I'm glad they went with a similar style for the Ascent. Theirs is unique from the others, but just as effective. The laces have little reflective grip strips on them. Great way to double up two very useful features. None of my other shoes have the grips on the laces and it caught me by surprise when I laced them up for the first time. My immediate knee jerk thought was that I didn't like it. It kind of felt like I had collected some small burs on my laces and tried to tie them. But, wow! They hold so very well. It is fantastic and I raved to my wife, who patiently let me ramble on before telling me her shoes have the feature, and she loves it, too. Super cool! I've snagged branches and all kinds of stuff and my laces haven't come untied. Never thought I'd be a shoe lace snob, but I don't know that I'll get another pair without this grippy style. The shoes have good ventilation. On the Hocking Hills days, it was 90 degrees plus and my feet did not get uncomfortably warm. They dry quickly. I kinda wish I would have got the gortex style that are water proof, but I have other options on hand if I need that. I wanted to ensure that I had the best possible ventilation with black colored shoes, so I went with the "regular" style. I crossed a couple of streams in my hikes and the shoes dried very quickly as I continued on. I had either merino or alpaca wool socks on when testing the shoes, so I'm sure that helped the drying speed, also. I think I've covered what I can. I'm really impressed by Stika with these shoes. They did a solid job with a lot of thought put into the design. I'll toss out that before I retired, I had to wear all black shoes while working. I would cover a variety of terrain and worked in all weather conditions. I would 100 percent recommend these for work shoes, if you have similar requirements. They're comfortable for all day use and suitable for both walking and running. Two thumbs up! Some pics out of the box and then after the aforementioned hiking. They're a little dusty, but have zero damage. ... show more

SITKA Ascent Trail Shoes Deliver Low-Profile Agility, High Traction, and Secure Midfoot Lockout
Size: 11 Color: Black
As a long-time Sitka Gear enthusiast with dozens pieces spanning early fall garments to heavy winter bibs, I was eager to add these SITKA Ascent Trail Shoes in Black to my hiking and hunting gear lineup. I also often wear hiking style sneakers as my daily drivers. These trail shoes can are greate for singletrack trail work, preseason scouting, and target range sessions, or just walking around the neighborhood where heavy 8-inch+ hunting boots would feel cumbersome. The shoe is built with a high-denier poly-woven upper paired with a molded TPU toe cap, a structured heel counter, and a low-profile EVA midsole. I am a natural size 11 who in some brands needs an 11.5 if the toe box is narrow. These fit true to size for my wider size 11 feet. The shoe provides the extra volume required across the forefoot for my for wider feet, creating a stable fit that wears comfortably. On the trail, the internal Axis-Fit containment webbing anchors the instep firmly over the footbed, preventing foot slop and toe jamming during downhill descents across uneven ground. The Apex Traction System outsole features aggressive rubber lug geometry that grips loose dirt, wet clay, and gravel without loading up with mud (which saves a lot of weight). And the flexible EVA midsole offers natural foot movement and precise tactile feedback underfoot. That makes quiet foot placement easier while sneaking around. However the unlined poly-woven upper will NOT prevent water leaking through during marsh crossings or heavy morning dew. If you were to step right into a hidden creek bed, your socks would get soaked fast. These shoes are great for any outdoorsman needing a responsive, lightweight trainer for preseason conditioning, warm-weather scouting, or easy dry trails. I'd say they're more for casual use. If you're scouting rouger or wetter terrain, you might prefer waterproof or leather hiking boots instead. At $149, this is a premium branded product. However the combinatoin of durable TPU armoring, secure midfoot locking, and nimble underfoot traction makes them worthwhile. ... show more

Comfortable Trail Shoes with a Secure Everyday Fit
Size: 10 Color: Black
These size 10 black trail shoes are built for walking and light hiking with a supportive fit, durable upper, and a sole designed for mixed outdoor terrain. They offer a great fit, super comfortable feel, and a stylish low-profile look that works on the trail and around town. They are a great item with great quality at a great price, and I trust this brand based on how well these shoes have performed so far. For a more detailed review, continue reading. I received these trail shoes through Amazon Vine and have worn them for neighborhood walks, light trail use, and everyday outdoor errands. Size 10 fits me well, with enough room in the toe box and a secure hold through the midfoot and heel. There was very little break-in needed. I could wear them for several hours on the first day without hot spots or rubbing, which is not always the case with new trail shoes. Comfort is the strongest impression. The cushioning underfoot is supportive without feeling overly soft or unstable. The interior lining is comfortable against socks, and the overall ride feels controlled on pavement, packed dirt, and uneven ground. Traction has been reliable on dry and slightly damp surfaces. The outsole grips well enough for casual trail use without the bulky, aggressive look of a heavier hiking boot. The black colorway is practical and easy to wear. These shoes look more refined than many brightly styled trail models, so they work with outdoor pants, jeans, and casual weekend outfits. That makes them more useful as a daily shoe rather than something that only comes out for hikes. The upper materials feel durable and have held their shape after repeated wear. Eyelets, stitching, and the sole attachment all look solid, which is what I expect from a brand I already trust for outdoor gear. Build quality matches the price and intended use. After regular wear the shoes still look clean, the cushioning has not flattened out, and the fit remains consistent. They are not a rigid backpacking boot, but for trail walking and everyday outdoor use they strike a good balance of comfort, support, and style. I have been happy with these shoes and continue to reach for them. The great fit, comfortable ride, and dependable construction make them a strong option if you want trail-ready footwear that still looks good for daily wear. If you value quality outdoor shoes from a brand you can trust, these are worth considering. ... show more
