It’s a really nice looking solid wood shelving unit. The distressed grey color is absolutely beautiful. But the parts are cheap, the wood isn’t the highest quality, pre-drilled holes did not line up on the top piece. The assembly instructions are majorly lacking details, the instructions don’t properly indicate which side faces forward on some parts. I would consider myself an advanced level handy man and very good at assembling items, this took me nearly 7 hours to assemble. My suggestion to anyone purchasing this item is to test fit parts at least two steps ahead to ensure proper direction of the wooden pieces and alignment of the holes. When using wooden dowels double check to see if you need 1 or 2 per hole, don’t hammer or press the dowels into the side pieces too hard or you will blow out the side board. I would also highly suggest the use of wood glue to strengthen everything after you test fit. ... show more

I bought one of these before, and was excited to get a second. That excitement turned into frustration and disappointment when I discovered that the design has been changed for worse. The soft zinc cam lock fasteners, which already were the weakest and most frustrating part of the whole assembly process, have been changed out for an even cheaper version. This new version looks like metal, but is has the strength of butter and the toughness of clay. Kudos to whoever decided to save a few nickels by making the worst part even more abysmal. The new cam locks make it impossible to assemble, as they immediately disintegrate. Also, the pegs that they allegedly attach to are not protruding enough into the cam lock pockets, further exacerbating the disintegrating cam lock problem. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I really like the look of this, much more classy than much cheaper options. Construction was horrible, taking between 90 minutes and 2 hours, but a couple of the pins didn’t align and their locking clamps couldn’t be fitted - one didn’t fit at all while another couldn’t go on properly but is now wedged there slightly sticking out. I use the shelf for vinyl records (for which the shelves are a perfect size and very solid) but that sticking-out locking clamp means I have to put a buffer between that and the records. I was apprehensive after reading some of the reviews that dowels would not fit, and some people reported needing additional tools, experience, etc., but I had no issues. I also was able to put it together by myself. I found it easier to assemble it laying on it's back, like the directions show and I build most of it on a folding table so I was not crawling on the ground. I overtightened one of the cam locks and broke it, but it was still securing the cam lock pin tightly so I did nothing about it. No need to do anything more than snug them up. They are a cheap pot metal and not meant to tighten with strength. Overall it was a nice kit and took me maybe an hour and a half, but was pleasant work. The wood looks nice. If you don't need it for albums you will appreciate the deeper shelves to hold larger books and art objects. ... show more

Nothing was right about this piece. The wood was damaged, and it was impossible to construct because none of the drill holes meet up with the wooden dowels. Never ordering fruniture off of Amazon again after this.
