If I was 6'10" instead of 5'6", this would be great. But I sit here, with the thing next to my monitor, and I can't really see what's in the top 2 trays. I have to look up *through* the top tray to see the bottom of what's on that tray. It's a small black mesh. I can't really tell what's up there. The front edge is above my eye level. Next tray down is about as bad. Third tray down, I can only see the edge of whatever. Fourth tray down, I can kinda see the top of stuff. But still, it's mostly the edges. Fifth tray down, I can see the top surface, but not much of it, again because it's on a slant. Finally, the bottom tray, I can see what stuff is. This is maybe 1/2" above desk level. This is going to get moved elsewhere. Might land on a footstool-height thing so I can actually see what's in it for a change. Best use: Binders or catalogs with the name on the edge. Worst use: Paper sorting and general storage of stuff where you need to see what's on the page. I'm getting a different tray stack. One with flat trays.

I bought this to keep the following items on my desk at my fingertips: planner/ calendar, notebook, a filing folder of bills due, and a filing folder of bills paid and other items to be filed. New and unused folders are at the bottom. This organizer uses minimal space and stacks items vertically. I'm very happy with my purchase!

I've worked in offices for 40+ years and ordered this "Simple Housewares" brand multi-tray unit mostly for the low price. The company name isn't just marketing jargon, its clever design simplicity is brilliant! Many other metal desk trays rely only upon welds at stress points, which often eventually results in warping, leaning and breakage. THIS ONE uses screws at the bottom tray and top stability rails, which makes it far more sturdy and balanced. The trays are also slanted to prevent sliding out when retrieving papers AND the trays can be individually removed entirely. This is a much better design which provides the choice of sometimes leaving a space for a deeper stack of files or documents by temporarily removing one of the trays. Finally, the trays also protrude from the frame farther than most, making it easier to grab the contents. I chose this item quickly based mostly on its low price, and it turned out to be the best design and value I've ever used!

I'm a reasonably patient person, but getting the first bolt in on this holder had me losing my cool pretty fast. It shouldn't be a two person job. I worked it out myself only with inward seething, barely uttered obscenities, and high pressure rage. Then once the first bolt was in, it was fine. Put together in like 3 minutes. Great for organizing my son's stuff: he has storage now for graph paper, lined, Cornell notes, and blank pages, plus a place for the ever-missing calculator and stapler. I'm hoping this slaps him into shape for high school! Would buy again if I had an assistant to put it together.

I purchased this to keep track of orders in my retail store. Orders are printed out so I can take notes on payments, shipping dates, tracking numbers, etc. and to check against packing slips when items are received. This product would be great for storing 1" or 1-1/2" binders. It is not so great as a desktop organizer for loose paper, or file folders. The shelves are angled up about 10 degrees, which doesn't sound like much. This angle keeps you from being able to see what wad of papers or file folder you are grabbing off the shelf while seated at a desk, except for the bottom couple of shelves. So you end up grabbing the wrong item constantly. With binders you can label the spines and read them in place. Unfortunately I did not purchase this item for binder organization, so I will have to keep shopping for a better paper organizer. The assembly is simple enough. All that is required is a #2 Phillips screwdriver, the most common size. The shelves slide into troughs on each side of the organizer once assembled. I recommend using thread locker to keep the included hardware from loosening over time. I settled on this organizer because of the bottom shelf. It is flat, and has enough headroom for a Swingline stapler, and standard tape dispenser. These are items that tend to travel all over a desk and now they have a home.
