Great desk - just what I wanted. It is sturdy, well-designed, and has a large surface area, which I needed. The majority of reasonably inexpensive desks are too narrow for my purposes. This one is big enough for my computer gear AND a cat bed in the corner. It has a lovely shabby chic look and a clever paint job that makes it look like you found it in an antique store. It is elegant but simple, and it looks awesome in my tiny cabin, matching the wood walls and white trim beautifully. The top is manufactured wood, looks real, but is actually really tough material pretending to be wood. My cat and I both would scratch it right away if it were possible, but it is not - yay. If a thing can be scratched, my cat and I will immediately do so. The desk has a faux drawer for the keyboard and a real drawer, and it has two UBS and two outlet interfaces at the back of the top, which is very handy. I plan to purchase some inexpensive adhesive cord organizers to gather the excess cordage at the back to make them totally disappear from view. Importantly to me, the desk is long (cat bed) and also deep - room to loll against the desk. I enjoy lolling while using the computer and shopped for a deep desk for just that reason. Finally, it was shipped with Amazon's usual military precision and professional expertise and was left right outside my deck door, which involved carrying it up a short flight of stairs.     • Beautiful desk lacking functionality

It is a beautiful desk but that's about it. If you are gonna get it, get the one that is not liftable. The lifting option is not reliable. As some other reviews said, it doesn't stay up unless it's all the way up and honestly doesn't feel sturdy. Also mine doesn't close shut flush so I have to use force to shift it shut every time. I probably will not end up using the lift function which is the main reason I bought this desk. Also, there is barely any storage space, especially if you get the lifting one. The main drawer is only decorative in this version due to the fact that the drawer space is occupied by the metals that are used to lift the desk up. This really defeats the function of the design because the main drawer was supposed to be intended for the keyboard in the other non lifting version. The height of the desk is pretty high to accommodate this keyboard drawer. Since I don't have the keyboard drawer, I have to put the keyboard on the desktop and since it's so high, it puts strain on my shoulders and wrists. Just in the last few min when I was writing this review, I am experiencing tenseness in these areas. I would have considered returning it but it's so heavy and already assembled so I won't bother with it. If you still want to buy it, buy the non lifting one and on amazon bc they have great customer service if you have any issues. ... show more

Very easy to assemble and the usb cord works great as well. Didn't have any of the damage to the desk like some people reported. Looks great and is a good size. Love the drawers that are on it, has made organizing so much easier! Edit: ended up finding a crack that runs the entire width of one of the sides. Dropped rating to 4 stars because it doesn't affect the quality of the desk, but after so many reviews of receiving this desk with damage, you think Ashley furniture would do better with their product seeing how much it cost or charge less for it. ... show more

PROS: - It's lovely. - The pieces--desktop, legs--are heavy and solid wood. (Note: One person should not attempt to set the desk upright once it has been assembled--it's that heavy.) - The plugs and USB ports function well and are convenient, and the cord extending from these plugs to the wall is sturdy. - The drawer is solid, opens and closes smoothly, and gently but securely holds itself shut. CONS: - Despite paying a couple hundred extra for the lift-top/convertible standing version of the desk, I am unable to use it because the necessary wooden supports beneath it are broken (as in, broken all the way through, two pieces of the board hanging separately). - Assembling the desk is a disaster. In order to attach the legs, you have to remove the panel that covers them after assembly which has ALREADY been NAILED to the underside of the desk, as though the legs have already been attached. Once you pull out all the nails, you have to nail it back along the edge of a panel that is now torn up. - Once the panel is removed, there are a couple of legs that are nearly possible to secure because you have to reach into a VERY narrow space to try to tighten the screws with the Allen wrench. - Although I did by best to tighten them, they did loosen over time. I leave it to you to imagine the further disaster of trying to redo all of this work a second time once the (again, very heavy) desk has been righted. - Trying to secure the legs with brackets is not possible because the top finial is round. A beautiful touch, but annoying because this would be a good way to fix the issue of the main screws not working well. - The pieces on the sides of the desk (the narrow pieces of wood along the edge beneath the desktop, facing outward) don't line up with one another or with the area where the table legs screw in. So the corners aren't secure, which means you can't tighten the screws for the table legs without risking breaking something. (You may see a pattern here where the legs are concerned--all the potential for sturdiness, but a promise unfulfilled). - One of those panels on one side has a piece of wooden trim across the bottom that was split through (in the same way that the board beneath the lift-top portion of the desk is broken in two). CONCLUSION: I had so much hope for this desk, but overall I regret the purchase. It was expensive, so it's a shame that so much care was put into certain aspects, but then other important aspects were careless and generally a disaster. If you're a carpenter with the tools and knowledge to fix a half-broken desk, you may find the price tag acceptable. Most of us will have for fork out a few hundred dollars again in a couple years to replace this desk with something that will actually last. ... show more
