Some things you NEED TO KNOW!!! The instructions do not tell you that you HAVE TO REMOVE the plastic insert from the part that slides over the pedestal. You can see this piece in pic 3. It blocks the adjustment lever from contacting the button that allowes adjustment of the pedestal height. Turn the piece that bolts to the seat bottom so that it is right side up. You can see the piece that needs to be removed. It is where the tip of my screw driver is pointing in pic one. Use a 3/8 or half inch ratchet extension or a woden dowell to knock this out with a hammer as seen in pic 2. Once you have removed the entire plastic insert, assemble the chair per the instructions. Your bar stool will now work as designed and as you expected. Also, use of a heat gun or hair dryer will make removing the 4 decals from the bottom of the seat bottom a lot easier. Use a solvent or GooGone to remove the remaining glue. I used laquer thinner with no issues. The quality of the three that I bought was good. None of the nics that others have had. My only issue was having to take the stools apart and diagnose the issue. ... show more

    • Beautiful Chair but, could not give 5 Stars because......

Hello everyone. Just wanted to give my opinion on this Chair. The Chair itself deserves 5 Stars all day long....it's very easy to assemble, its very comfortable, and the finish & functionality is a 10+. I could not give this a 5 Star rating because of the stupid decals placed on the bottom of the seat. There are 4 decals...2 of them removed very easily but, 2 of them seemed to be glued on with permanent glue. I'm not joking when I say this....generally, decals can be removed with "Goof Off" or "Alcohol' without any issues. That not the case with these Chairs...I tried my best to remove the 2 decals with a Hair Dryer, Goof Off, and also a little it of Alcohol but, the Adhesive Goo would not come off, literally damaged the finish ! At least the damage is on the bottom of the seat so, no one really see's it but, to the Manufacturer, please stop with the decals....they ruin the finish on your beautifully designed Chair ! ... show more

I bought four “cheap” Chinese made bar stools for my home bar which arrived and I put together in 10 minutes and without any damage whatsoever. I am building this bar in my basement and I wanted a “captain’s chair” for myself behind the bar which would be a bit sturdier and more comfortable as I will be the one at the bar the most. So I thought an Ashley furniture bar stool which cost a bit more would be awesome. Dead wrong. It came damaged and is not nearly as comfortable as the “cheaper” ones. Sitting in it pinches the sides of my butt and hips. I’m 6’2” and 235lbs, muscular and not fat by any means. In the last picture the one on the left, all brown, is much much more comfortable!! ... show more

24-month update. I've added one more star but don't click the buy now button just yet. After the gas/hydraulic struts failed on both stools I called Ashley and they sent me out 2 new replacement struts. Still not out of the woods yet. The removal of the old struts can be a challenge but can also easily damage the base plate at the bottom. In swapping both mine out there is now play between the strut and the base plate, so when you sit in the stool it sways in all directions, making the stool feel very cheap despite the "look". I decided to update this review as people still mark it as helpful. It's quite possible Ashley has updated the strut by now or at least I hope they have. Here we are 2 years later, the stools still work as intended but now there's just that swaying that will never go away. 14-month update - Stay away, stay far away! After only 14 months neither of the two stools I purchased will keep from compressing all the way down. They are absolutely useless now. Spend more elsewhere and be happier. I'll be quick as your time is precious. These stools look great, modern and comfortable (if your hips are narrow). These stools can be as tall as "spectator height" which are hard to find and my living space requires this type of stool. I felt like this was my only option, I don't have a traditional sit-down dinning area. Would I buy again? No way. These stools have lost their ability to keep their set height. They will actually go down/lower when you are sitting in them. Whether the gas/hydraulic cylinder is bad, has worn out or the o-rings are subpar, this is not a long term stool. I thought maybe it was just one that was bad? But both I purchased are doing this. Sure I can pull the lever on the side and return the stool to its desired height but it only takes a few moments for the cylinder to begin failing again ... show more

I bought 2 of these adjustable bar stools 5 years ago and paid $500 for each at a luxury furniture store. I loved them and used them everyday, however, my cat chewed the leather and destroyed them. I Shopped online and bought a different bar stool (100% leather for $998) and the cylinder was broken so I had to return them. I looked everywhere for these specific bar stools until I finally found them on Amazon. These are identical bar stools to my previous ones and the assembly was very easy (it does take 2 people and 15 minutes). I am over the moon to have these bar stools again. They are so beautiful and comfortable; they look a lot more expensive. I definitely recommend these bar stools. ... show more

We bought these barstools knowing we might not have them for long. Barstools are extremely expensive at any store you walk into, but we needed something now. They were easy to assemble, but they are not as durable as we were so wishfully thinking they would be. I'm not upset about our purchase, since the chairs are still fully functional. But out of the three we bough, one of the seats has already lifted from the side of the based, and one of them won't go upward anymore, so we just have some uneven barstools now. I don't regret buying them, since the price was good, but if you have a house full of kids, I do not recommend. We have an 11-year-old and us, and somehow the one chair has still managed to give out on us. They still look nice, so we aren't bothering with replacing them at this point, but we know we will have to at some point. ... show more
