The only thing wrong with this coffee/cocktail table is that the price is a bit hefty. It is made well by todays standards, but we all know the markup on furniture of any kind is way over the top and this table is no exception. I've had some very nice compliments on it so far and it seems to be a pretty stellar purchase. It needs to be said that I can't normally recommend anything made by Ashley furniture, because most of what they sell is poorly made and brings to mind the kind of bargain basement junk you would have found at Wickes or Levitz back in the 80's. Keep in mind that you cannot place a centerpiece in the 'center'. The middle hinge for the storage compartment prevents anything from being able to sit flat there. I confess, it bugs me a little, but the tradeoff is the very convenient storage, so it works out. If you're on the fence about purchasing this table, the only thing you need to think about is how to pay for it, because it is easy to assemble, looks great, hides living room clutter (blankets, throws, pillows, games, toys, etc.) and the lift section is great for a work surface. The wood top is real wood and it's pretty thick. Even if you ding the surface, I believe it will still look great because it's already rustic looking, but it exudes class, too. My mom has had her eye on this table for quite a while. We saved a good amount of money,($125 at least) plus free delivery, buying this on Amazon (prime day as well) instead of another website. It is a great and functional piece of furniture, the way it opens up for storage. I was worried it might be hard to assemble (we considered paying extra for that), but we were pleasantly surprised how it was basically pretty easy, especially if you have previous experience putting things together. First of all, know that when it arrives the box is heavy, weighing in at around 85lbs, so you will need help moving it. Assembly is incredibly easy, with only 16 screws needed to put everything together. In total, it was completely assembled in 15 minutes! This table is absolutely gorgeous. The fit and finish are perfection, and the dark wood over white finish is stunning. The storage space is large, with room for several pillows and blankets for guests. It has a lot of room inside, basically the whole thing, for blanket or other storage. The pull-up top is very nice for laptop use or having a meal sitting at the couch. The box when it comes is heavy, like 80 lbs of dead weight. Have another person help you move it to where you'll be assembling it, or else open it right at the front door and ferry the pieces to your assembly area. Well made table easy to put together. Good price. The only complaints I have is the color. In the description states gray brown but it is just dark gray. It doesn’t go with the decor I have but I decided to keep it for the storage. It did have that horrible smell but after couple days it disappear. And has a few scratches but nothing major.
