  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Decent computer, Terrible App
Color: Black WITH Cadence
Let's start with the things that bother me about this computer. - The manual is atrocious. It's a giant, fold-out, multi-lingual abomination of menu flowcharts. There are zero instructions about how the functions are used, or how to calibrate the altimeter. If you speak German, there's a full PDF manual available, but it too leaves much to be desired. - It provides "trip segments", but only shows you the segment time and distance. My previous Cateye computer would show the segment average speed. The BC 14.16 does not. No segment cadence, average speed, altitude. Just time and distance. - The Sigma Link app is almost useless. There's actually less information available in the app than there is in the computer itself. For example, the computer allows you to alter the total milage so you can keep track after a computer replacement, but the app doesn't register it. The computer also shows a trip based altitude graph, while the app does not. The app also has inexplicable weekly and monthly totals that I have yet to determine how they are calculated and, when added up, don't always match the yearly totals. Sometimes, the app fails to register the total milage for a given trip and there is no way to edit the entry in the app. I've found that reattaching the computer and spinning the front tire for a few seconds, then re-reading it in the app will usually fix the problem. - The cadence sensor needs very close placement to the magnet. The sensors are based on reed switches, but the sensitivity seems low. I need the cadence sensor's magnet to be about 1cm away before it will register. The good news here is that there's a dim LED that lights up when the magnet passes by, so you can tell if it's working or not. The wheel speed sensor may be the same, but I broke the cover apart while adjusting it (mid ride, my fault) and it simultaneously broke the glass reed switch. I was able to solder a new one in place and reseal the cover with super glue. It works perfectly well and doesn't seem to have to same distance sensitivity as the un-altered cadence sensor. - It is slow to update the display. This is true. It takes a second or two to display updated values. This doesn't usually bother me, but if instant responsiveness is what you want, you'll be disappointed. It only bothers me with the altimeter's "grade" function. This shows the percentage grade of the slope you're on. Since the max climb and descent grades are not recorded on the computer or in the app, it would be nice to see more updated results when you know you're in the steepest part of your ride. On to the good things. - The cadence and average cadence are great at this price point. - The barometric pressure based altimeter readings are consistent to +-5ft on every ride. Just remember to set your starting altitude at the beginning of your ride. - The app, as bad as it is, can be used to set your wheel diameter, clock, home altitudes, units, and more and is far easier than navigating the menus. - The computer doesn't listen to the sensors when it's not mounted. To me, that's a plus. The mount has two metal plates that contact corresponding pins on the computer, so it knows when it's mounted. It means i can pull it off the mount and walk the bike without worrying about the walk time messing with my trip averages. If you want a decent, non-connected computer that has a cadence sensor and altimeter, this is a good solution. A full manual in English would go a long way to make it a better experience. If you're buying it because of the app, you'll be very disappointed. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Cadance, Temperature and Altitude with a long-lasting battery
Color: Black WITH Cadence
This is my second Sigma. My first one fell off the bike during a bumpy century ride. I can't use the app on my iPhone, but not a big deal.
