  • Too pricey but kid loves it.
Very good product with a few bummers. First, I can’t figure out why it’s so much money. The product is nice, but fit and finish are not perfect, for example the quick release scratches the pant on the down tube. For this price this shouldn’t happen. Second, it’s a fine line between too loose and scratching your bike, be carful with instal. They provide tools for instal which I think is a waist of money. I’d rather a cheaper price point without simple tools. Finally the optional handlebars should be sold with not separately. On a positive, my kid loves it and loves going on rides with me! ... show more

  • Not quick release
I think the seller is confused about what a quick release is. As its name implies, a quick release allows you to take something off, or release it, quickly. For example, a quick release seatpost skewer allows you to adjust or remove the seatpost just by pulling a lever. A quick release wheel skewer does the same with the wheels. Nothing about this "quick release" performs a quick release function. The Shotgun seat does not come off easily at all. Watch the installation video on YouTube...you will have to do the reverse of that and take the entire thing apart every time you remove this from your bike. You MAY not have to remove the seat and loosen the top bolt depending on how tight you made that when you put it on. Less tight is obviously less secure. In fact, the only thing the quick release skewer actually does on this seat is give you a little extra leverage in order to help secure the seat a bit more. A useful feature, but not a quick release in any way. A wing nut or thumb screw or something would have sufficed but wouldn't allow you to tighten as much. In order to remove this seat from the bike, you still have to completely unscrew both the "quick release" skewer and the foot pegs, at a minimum, and possibly also take off the seat and unscrew the top bolt, which means you have to take it completely apart to remove it. The foot pegs are also a bit of a pain to get on/off...they don't just unscrew from each other...you have to first unscrew one, then loosen 2 little nuts under the frame in between the foot pegs to just the right spot so you can slide the foot peg bolt completely out. I bought this primarily because it said it was quick release and I have to install / remove the seat on a regular basis. ... show more

  • Best seat ever!
This seat has by far exceeded my expectations! It’s true that you have to learn to ride a little different to make this work but it’s so worth the effort. I also use a trailer and this is by far the best and affordable option around. The memories made while using this seat are worth every penny. It also fits my FATBIKE frame. My 4 year old has been on all day trips and he hasn’t complained once. ... show more

  • Very low quality
While the design works, it has major flaws. For example the spacer at the bottom that prevents from over-tightening is very flaky and requires super fine adjustment every time. If you don't make it tight enough every time, you risk scratching your frame with a bolt that has pretty sharp and deep threadng, and even severing your rear brake line, as that usually goes under the down tube. The seat constantly rotates as there is no way to actually screw it in to a point where it doesn't. The worst part: The seat, after 10 rides within 3 weeks, it's starting to fall apart. The fake leather is very thin and flimsy and it's just barely glued on. At this price the quality and the attention to detail to prevent frame damage should have been 10x ... show more

  • So Much Fun!
We’ve been using the shotgun seat for about two weeks for near daily bike rides and have really enjoyed it! So far we’ve mostly ridden on roads and a few short dirt trails in Oklahoma where everything is relatively flat. I love having my son where he can hear me and we can talk to one another about all the things we see on our rides. I also love that where he is positioned doesn’t affect my balance at all. Carrying an extra 35-40 pounds is definitely a little more of a work out though, especially when you have to pedal a little bo-legged. A few slightly negative things to consider is that at three years old and 42” my sons helmet rubs on my chin while riding, but not uncomfortably so. I also first tried to put it on a Trek 4500 and found it wasn’t compatible because the brake cables run across the top tube where the seat needs to sit. I haven’t had much luck with the quick release system-I’ve found that anytime you remove it, you really need to get all the tools out and completely readjust everything to make it snug and keep it from slipping even if you are just putting it back on the same bike. It only takes about 5 minutes or so to install and switch between bikes, but you do need to get out the tools to do it (which are all included). I also put a small piece of a rubber furniture pad between my bike frame and the foot peg screw to protect my frame in the event that the seat slips-which it has yet to do so far. If installed correct it’s very snug. Last thing to consider is that a system like this is definitely less safe in an accident, especially if you flip over your handlebars and land on your kiddo. We definitely won’t be trying any adventurous paths with this thing, but our skill level isn’t very high either. For me it’s still a five star product, because I knew the downsides going into this purchase. I do wish it was more affordable, but the amount of fun we’ve had with it has made it worth every penny in my book and hopefully it’ll have a decent resale value when my son outgrows it. ... show more

  • One major safety concern.
Overall my 3yo son and I love this seat, its comfortable and sturdy. However, safety is a major concern here. The foot rest are small metal pegs and the only thing holding the child's foot onto the rest is a single rubber strap that goes over the foot. During a recent ride my son's foot came out of the straps and then hit the tire. The tire sucked his foot into the forks and we we both went over the handlebars. We were both ok, but his foot suffered the most with some serious abrasions all over. I will be working on a strap that I can use which will better secure his foot by going around the back of the foot as well. Fortunately my son still wants to ride so this didn't ruin it for him, but please be aware of this possible issue. ... show more
