  • Great helmet, would recommend
Size: Medium Color: MATTE BLACK
I purchased the Shoei GT AirII in part to a video review showing this helmet had one of the best wind noise isolation characteristics done using a dB meter. I also like that later I can install a bluetooth communication system (SENA SRL Mesh) into the helmet. After riding around for a couple months, I can confirm the helmet does an exceptional job at keeping wind noise to a minimum at highway speeds (70MPH). It has good ventilation. I wear hard contact lenses and need to keep air from blowing directly into my eyes, drying them out, and this helmet does just that. My only CON is the flip down sun visor doesn't work as well as sunglasses do in when riding into morning sunrises or evening sunsets. The sun visor works well when the sun is higher in the sky, no problem. I just throw on some sunglasses for situations where more direct sun in the face is the case. I should also mention I'm happy with the look of the helmet and its ability to be aerodynamic. I can easily turn my head to look around while at highway speeds and not feel like a bubble head or get whip lash. Last, but not least, I understand that shoei will provide different foam padding to adjust the fitment. Since I bought here, on amazon, this wasn't an option for me but my understanding is if you go to a brick and mortar shop that is a shoei distributor that they can fine tune fitment. I found the fitment perfect for me. ... show more

  • Premium helmet at a premium price.
Size: Large Color: MATTE BLUE
Some context: I ride a cruiser, and never really go any faster than the flow of traffic. I don't ride with a windshield. I just got back into riding again after laying off it for a few years. I'd been looking for a good full-face helmet for some time. Something light, well-made, comfortable, quiet, well-ventilated (if need be), with an internal sunshield, and with decent anti-fog capability. My previous helmets, when I used to ride both a cruiser and a standard, were a cheap BILT number and a no-name half-helmet. The BILT was incredibly noisy at any speed above "crawl", never felt like it fit right, and fogged no matter what I did unless I opened the face shield completely. It also had a habit of making my head whip back and forth in the wind at highway speeds. The half-helmet was...well...a half-helmet. Light, but that's about it. It most certainly wasn't going to stop bugs from hitting my face, or rain (which stings at highway speeds), and it absolutely wouldn't help me in a crash unless I only hit the top of my head. Considering the IIHS data showing the vast majority of reported motorcycle accidents include a strike to the chin/jaw areas, that was an issue for me. After some research, I got the GT Air II. It feels light on long rides, doesn't get pushed around by the oncoming wind, feels quiet-ish, has a few options to handle fog, is well-ventilated, and is pretty comfy. Some notes: Some helmet brands are better for certain head shapes, but I don't know the shape of my head. The size chart told me I needed a Large, so I got a Large. Unfortunately, I needed to also buy some 31mm cheek pads to replace the fatter ones in the helmet. If you buy this from a motorcycle store, you're likely given the option to replace the cheek pads at purchase at no additional cost to you. This can save you $55-$60. - All the vents are easy to open with one hand. - The internal sunshield is easy to manipulate with one hand. It's not on a spring-loaded latch, so it won't wear out so quickly. - The face shield can be raised only with the left hand, as the tab is on the left side of the bottom of the shield. - The face shield has a "cracked open" setting for low-speed fog mitigation. It works. The ventilation elsewhere helps at higher speeds. - I never bought the optional internal comms, so I can't tell you if they're worth it. - I've read that Shoei didn't submit the helmet for SNELL crash rating simply because it's difficult to obtain a SNELL rating with an internal sunshield. Not impossible, but difficult. The comparable RF 1200, also from Shoei but without an internal sunshield or an optional integrated comms package, has a SNELL certification. - This has a ratchet strap rather than a classic double-D-ring. Unlike the original GT Air, this ratchet strap was moved further forward to avoid sitting against the neck. I can attest that this does help, but it still feels a bit more restrictive against the neck. - The field of vision is very, very good for a cruiser. That said, if you're riding a sportbike in the tuck position, you might want the RF1200 instead, as it provides marginally better field of vision vertically. - I haven't had to install the pinlock face shield insert yet, but it does come with one, which is supposed to help with fog. Overall, I like this helmet. I wish it cost less, but at least it was cheaper than MSRP. Even so, I would recommend trying it on at a store to make sure it fits your head shape. I recommend it for cruising and standards, but sportbike riders would likely want something tailored to that style of riding. Good luck! ... show more

  • Sena SLR2 is terrible, bad, awful, the worst. Great helmet tho
Size: Large Color: BLACK
First the pros. Exteremly well made and comfortable helemt, no hot spots for intermediate oval shaped heads. Fit and finish is what you would expect in such a high price helmet. The internal visor is a godsend, I no longer have to check weather and decided which visor to snap on each morning before heading out. Pinlock works great, no fogging. Coming from a scorpion r420, I think the noise is about the same, but who cares you should wear ear plugs no matter what, wind levels above 60 mph in any helemt is going to cause serious earing damage after a short time... The airflow is great, i can feel lots of air around my head and can turn it off by adjusting the vents. Very pleased with the helemt and shoei brand. Now the con- Sena. This company is terrible, there speakers suck and if you want to listen to music using the slr2 good luck unless you standing still and like to pretend you are listening to music from a Coke can. Absolutely garbage, Shoei please dump Sena as your bluetooth comms provider or at least demand they update the SLR2 driver and speakers. My 30k which would only work after purchasing the "HD speakers" is not supposed to mount to this but after trialing the SLR2 and finding it completely useless for music, communicating or navigation. I decided to take my old 30k and give it new life, on it went fairly easily and in a good position, defintley not as sleek as the SLR2 but I can hear music and navigation at high speeds(only with HD speakers). I almost didn't buy this helmet because it had been tainted by Sena but shoei quality makes up for there dumb decision in partnering with Sena. Hopefully this helemet will last me at least 5 years and by that time Cardo will have something that integrates into a shoei helemt, if its still sena I will be finding another helemt cause the 30k tho better with hd speakers, is still terrible and I will never buy another product from them. Shoei do better, develop your own comms system or use cardo, Sena is doing everything they can to not evolve there product but still take over market share. ... show more

  • Very good brand and product!
Size: Medium Color: WHITE
I've always worn Shoei helmets and have been saved a couple times by them. Great fit and overall design. While I do like the speed and convenience of the ratchet strap closure, I agree with other reviewers that it is not terribly comfortable. Really like the integrated sun visor and pinlock shield.
