I bought this when it was on sale at Amazon last August. There are so many +s, so I will focus on the top 5. 1 - The included filter lasted for just over 5 months in a very smokey (forest fires) & polluted city air environment. This unit works very well for our 1400 sq. ft. area. 2 - It is very quiet while on automatic mode after the air is clean enough for the 6 fans to slow to minimum speed. (At high speed, the fans are still quiet enough to easily have a conversation in the same room where the unit is just a few feet away.) 3 - The air purity sensor seems to be very accurate. It senses when we are cooking anything in the kitchen (about 30 feet from unit) that produces a little smoke and will automatically kick the fans speed up when in auto mode. 4 - The footprint of the unit in nicely minimal due to it's height. We were able to easily find space for it. 5 - Unboxing the unit and installing the filter was very straight forward. The remote works very, but we rarely use it after we realized that the auto mode of this unit serves most of our needs. I highly recommend this quality product. ... show more

My housekeeper noted to me that a portion of thhe hardwood floors in the kitchen had some kind of sticky greasy residue but she couldn’t figure out the source because it was by the door at least 15 feet from the stove, the only thing in the area was the air purifier but who would think that’s the source. Upon further inspection, the wall next to the air purifier was also covered in the same residue. I noticed the vents on the side were had the same residue and upon opening the filter I changed less than 2 months prior, it was also covered in the same residue. We don’t fry anything at home and even if we did, I already mentioned that the unit is at least 15 feet from the unit. Anyway, I called shark and they said it was a filter failure issue and replacement the unit. ... show more

    • A Breath of fresh air…

I’ve been in need of a quality air purifier for some time. And I found it in the Shark HE601. Ive been using Shark vacuum cleaners for years now, and I’ve been pleased with them, so when I discovered Shark is building air purifiers, I knew it would be a quality product. I’m asthmatic, and I’m always looking at ways to remove anything that can trigger an attack. I put the highest rated filter in my air conditioner/furnace I can get as well as cleaning and dusting. So, a quality air purifier is a must. I bought two of these air purifiers. One for my bedroom and another for the living room. Each room being on opposite sides of the house. First, set up is easy. From unboxing to running was 5-10 minutes. Second. They work! As it turned out, my timing for testing these couldn’t have been better. There’s a big fire 100 miles from here and the whole valley I live in is full of smoke from that fire. I turned the units on, and each indicated an air quality of 90% clean. I turned fan speed to 3 (Best for allergies) and within an hour each unit indicated air quality of 100%. I then set the unit to auto. It allows for the unit to adjust as needed for continuous monitoring and cleaning, if needed. The air quality hasn’t dropped below 99% clean inside my home. And I can tell the difference. My eyes are not burning like they were before. And no sneezing. I haven’t sneezed once inside my home after getting these. Plus, they’re quite. On fan setting 1 I can’t hear it unless I’m close to it, and nothing is making noise such as a TV. At 4 it’s no louder than a fan one might use inside their home. Speaking of fans, This unit has 6. They pull air from the backside of the unit through the filtration, and out the sides. Hence the reason the unit is not against the wall and sides must be clear. The filter is easily changed and should last 4400 hours. The unit counts down the filter life. I haven’t been able to locate new filters yet, but, it’s a Shark. I suspect they will become available before I need a replacement filter as Sharks is a pretty reputable company. I suspect lack of availability has to do with the short time this model has been on the market. This unit is controlled by the instrument panel located on top of the unit or a remote control only. It does not connect to the internet via WiFi. No app to use. Though that might be nice, it wasn’t a requirement for me. All in all, a great air Purifier. I doubt you’ll be disappointed. The whole family loves the stylish display. It gives the percentage of the health of the air. It is placed near the kitchen. When running normally, it is silent and hovers around 96% to 100%. When you start cooking in the house, especially something with high orders, the percentage immediately drops to 60% or lower and the fans kick on to start filtering the air. You can scroll through the display to see what size of particles is it monitoring. The air quickly is cleaned and you will notice no lingering odors in the house hours later with specific meals. Once the percentage drops after a few minutes, the fan noise goes back to silent. It's nice to see it actually noticed, so you know it is working. If you plan to put this in a room, all the lights can be blacked out, so it will not be glowing in your room. It comes with a remote, but I leave it on auto, so I have not had any real need to use it. If you want to improve your house, this is a good thing to start with. I consider this a luxury, but all my kids' allergies were getting bad, so I need to try something new in the house. It is worth it only if you know you are trying to fix a problem. ... show more
