I had long seen the Shark brand of small home appliances and still hadn’t entered the waters until this year, when we invested in one of their heavy duty vacuum cleaners for a huge flea infestation. While the flea issue isn’t fully resolved, I’ve been amazed by the amount of hair this beast picks up daily, and it’s made me a believer in Shark brand items. So I was eager to see whether their air purifiers work as well as their vacuum. Setting this up couldn’t be easier. Remove the filter from the plastic bag, plug in, and turn on. That’s it! We put it on a desktop about a foot away from an open window, and rather surprisingly, the air purifier indicated our air quality was at 98%. Thought maybe the unit wasn’t all that accurate. I mean, we live pretty close to the ocean, but the dust that blows in our windows. That affects air quality too. Right? But my husband inadvertently put the filter to the test while cooking dinner. Our air fryer sometimes smokes pretty badly when the grease catch is inside while on the toast (versus air fry) function. Usually, the grease catch is removed, the kitchen window is open, and the exhaust fan is on. But not this day. This day, we had the perfect storm with our smoke detector blaring. And while madness had broken loose, the Shark air purifier showed our air quality had dropped to 81%. So perhaps the initial read was accurate. Within 10 minutes of fans pushing air out of windows and the air purifier running, the smoke detector stopped screaming, and our air quality was back at 98%. Now that is impressive. This thing runs quiet. I mean, quiet. As I’m typing this, I’m in a room with a different air purifier. It’s loud. With a fairly standard white noise hum. Not so with the Shark. Silent. Except when it senses motion and temporarily boosts filtering for a few minutes before running silent again. Amazing. Then there’s the filters. The hepa filter is supposed to last 6 years. 6 years! Not 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 years. My little white noise machine needs a filter change every 3 to 6 months. So let me crunch the numbers. Filters alone will cost me more than the price of the Shark BreatheClear, and that doesn’t even include the cost of the air purifier itself. And let’s be real. Cost aside, I love not having to open the machine up to change the filters. Sure it’s not that hard, but I’m truly that lazy.

I’m a longtime fan of Shark products. I’ve only bought their vacuums for the many, many years and have a hand held blower I adore so anything they put out - I know it’s going to be a high quality item. But this blows my mind! We’re an allergy family and allergy doc 25 years ago stressed to me to always have hepa filter by bed for good quality restorative sleep. I’ve got them in every room of the house. I spend so much money on filters! But I’m allergic to almost everything outside and dust and my animals inside so it’s important. And having had so many filters all these years, I’ve watched the technology improve - but this one is just mind blowing. I’ll probably say that a few more times before I finish this review because it’s the only way to really describe how amazing it is! The last hepa filters I bought were highly rated puroair machines a couple years ago and they’ve been good. But this Shark makes them seem like ancient dinosaurs. Those turn on and can be set higher or lower - and that’s it. This Shark shows me everything!!! The air quality - and seeing it at 100 percent feels so so good. It has a motion sensor and scrambles a little to maintain good level. And it’s so quiet!! It really does just blow my mind. We have a very elderly dog who has taken to peeing in the bedroom all the time. The pic I took where air quality is so low, I assume, means she peed in there recently. Because last night we were at 100 percent. But the Shark is working on it and I’m sure will suck up all the nastiness fairly quickly. I recently put a nice luxe hotel scented diffuser in my room and I’ve noticed since I put the Shark in there the scent is much more pronounced, which I love. I got a second larger Shark that lives by the back door to attack all the nasty pollen as people come in and out. I just can’t say enough how much I appreciate being able to see what the machine is doing and how it’s cleaning the air! Not to mention the 6 years of not buying replacement filters. Huge!!! Those things aren’t cheap! They average around $50. And I have this whole closet full of them which takes up so much space. I already gave away a couple machines and may well end up getting rid of all of them. They seem so ancient compared to my super high tech Sharks. One last stupid thing but whatever - I think these look great. Super pretty shape and color. Aesthetics are important to me. I will recommend this to every single person I have a conversation about allergies with from now on because this is a total game changer. And living in East Tennessee—the allergy topic comes up a lot!! We’re sitting inside mountains like a bowl so pollen stays and swirls. I hand out Allegra like candy. Now I’m going to hand out the best advice ever too! Buy this Shark and surround yourself in clean air!!! Honestly it’s good psychologically as well as physically - to be able to know how clean your air is. Mind blowing!!

am an elder millennial which means Shark has been a trusted name in my household my entire life, from vacuums to steamers and everything in between. So when I needed an air purifier fast I turned to Shark and I am so glad I did because I did not even know they made a zero filter air purifier until I found this one at exactly the right moment. My toddler woke up one day with the absolute worst allergy symptoms, nothing was helping, and I realized clean air in our bedroom was probably the missing piece. This was the answer. The zero filter technology is genuinely genius for a mom brain that is already tracking approximately four thousand things at once. No filters to buy, no filters to change, no adding another task to the list. It simply tells you when it is time to wipe down the outside, kind of like a toddler letting you know what they need, and that is it. Setup was as easy as it gets, out of the box, read the instructions, plugged it in and it has been working beautifully ever since. The large display screen tells you exactly what is in your air and how much of it is present at any given moment which is both fascinating and occasionally alarming. I have an old hairdryer I keep meaning to replace and every single time I use it the air purifier immediately detects it and within about 15 minutes the air quality is back to clean. That kind of real time feedback is so reassuring. Plus, the air literally smells and feels fresher, more clean. Sleep mode is everything for a household with a toddler, it goes dark and quiet so nothing disturbs bedtime while still cleaning the air all night long. The adjustable fan speeds give you full control and it is genuinely not loud at all even on higher settings. Since we started using it my toddler has stopped snoring, is sleeping more deeply, and her allergy symptoms have improved significantly. I personally do not feel like you need an app connection because the screen tells you everything you need to know right there in the room. Compact, smart, effective and another Shark product that has fully earned its place in our home.

The two main features that drew me to this air purifier were it's compactness and maneuverability. It can fit easily on a desk or in a corner without taking up much space at all, and it is very light to carry from room to room. Equally important, I am a very light sleeper and this unit is extremely quiet. In the lowest of its five settings, it is practically inaudible. In its two highest settings, the sound is noticeable, but still far from annoying. The purifier comes with a one page direction sheet, which is very clear and simple to understand. Setting it up is equally easy and is done through manual touch controls on the screen in the front of the machine. Maybe I am old school, but I really like the simplicity and ease of toggles on a touchscreen versus having a remote control (one less thing to lose!). And of course, not having to change a filter for six years is a game-changer in the air purification world. The only issue I had with the purifier was a problem unscrewing the bottom in order to remove the plastic on the HEPA filter. Unloosening that bottom cover simply requires a counterclockwise twist , but I simply couldn't do it. I had to enlist the help of a friend, who seemed to have no problem popping it off. Whether my hand strength is that weak or I simply didn't apply the correct pressure, I can't say. In any case, it now seems to work fine. I've had a small Shark vacuum for several years, and it has proved to be handy and reliable. I think this air purifier will follow suit.

It's hard to compare this as far as air quality for air purifiers I've had before just because I find it hard to tell how pure the air I'm breathing is naturally, you know? But settings-wise, this is a really cool device. It automatically detects the amount of allergens/toxins/whatever in the air and adjusts the speed of the fan based on how much purifying the air needs. That's pretty handy and seems kind of energy-efficient. I think the allure of the no filter changes is VERY exciting; it claims it will take 6 years before the filter needs to be changed. I guess there's no way to know that until it's time for the filter to be changed, but it sounds exciting! I will say... when there's a candle burning in my room, I just turn this off. It thinks the air quality is literally 0% and it goes on superpower mode. I guess that should partially be telling me that I'm breathing in junk when I burn candles... but I love candles and will continue to use them :-) I do think this is pricy but the interface is cool and like I said, if it really doesn't need filters you're offsetting that cost. So it's expensive but not wildly so.

I'm a huge fan of this Shark BreatheClear Compact Pro Smart Air Purifier. I use it in my office at home and have noticed a huge decrease in my allergies since I installed it. We have three German Shepherds and the dander in our house is insane. This air purifier seems to remove most of the issue and I'm extremely thankful. I've also noticed that it is very effective at removing dust and odor from the air. The best part is that the air freshness has increased a great deal, making working from home much nicer on a day-to-day basis. The size of this purifier is decently small, making it versatile enough to use in any room of the house. I also love how sleek and polished it looks, as it blends in with any decor easily. The display on this unit was a huge selling point and you can quickly see information at a glance. At $229.99 (at time of purchase), this unit is very pricey in my opinion. It does, however, do the job well and is a good investment for your health.

We were so excited about getting this air purifier as we live in pollen central right now. Throw in pet dander and allergies – ugh. Our excitement was briefly tempered when we opened the pristine shipping box and found the Shark box inside pretty beat up. No foam packing to soften the rips and holes in the box, but we lucked out: There is enough space between the box sides and the unit that it was still in good shape. Of course the very first thing you need to do is open the bottom of the unit and pull out the filter. As it is wrapped in a sealed plastic bag you need to remove it – there's even a (removable) warning label on the display. Reinstall the unwrapped filter and screw the lid back on. Once done, you turn the unit on and the magic starts: The very cool display comes on with spiffy graphics and lets you know that it is initiating and calibrating the sensor. Note that it will calibrate the sensor whenever the unit is restarted. The other great thing, and something we've never seen on any air filter system before, is a display mode that gives you great stats and graphs. You can see what your various particles and pollutant counts look like with the push of a button. We manually put it through the various fan speeds to do that initial air cleaning. While you can definitely hear it on the highest fan setting, it's very quiet overall. It does a great job of removing dust and pollen – the sunlight through one of our windows usually lights up stuff in the air but the Shark unit cleaned it right up. While it's more expensive than many other units out there, the unique filtration system means that you don't need to replace the filters often. Besides cleaning the outer screens every couple of months, the factory filter should last for years. The only thing we wish it had was a remote control or Bluetooth app. The top-mounted control buttons are simple enough, but many of these higher end units include a remote control. Overall it's a fantastic unit that is worth the price for all the bells and whistles included. Especially that filtration system that shouldn't need changing for years. Highly recommend!
