This is a decent set for the $199 price tag. Sufficient space for two large boxes of books and games I needed to unpack. Keep in mind the side rails only come up a few inches on the sides of the shelves so you will need book ends unless you want your books hanging off the sides or sticking out (if they fill the shelf). This took a professional (elite rated) furniture assembler with 250+ jobs of experience about an hour to put together. They commented that it has a lot of pieces, which is a noteworthy comment coming from an experienced professional. In comparison with other shelving sets it is fairly sturdy and I expect it to wear well enough since much of the frame is metal. I ordered this because I knew I needed two bookcases and didn't want to have two separate units. I also loved the detail of the shelves. Overall I love this and do recommend it. However, the image is photoshopped a bit. The metal frame comes in two parts--the majority of the U-shape and then about a foot that attaches to the bottom. The photos show it as a single piece of metal, but when you assemble it, you can clearly see it is two pieces. It's not a deal breaker but if you know it's there, you'll see it. I did add glue to the wood dowels and the shelves are super sturdy and very nice looking. The box it comes in is very heavy. I was able to move it myself by pushing it across the floor. If you have a second person it'll be easier but it can be done. It's packaged really well and the instructions are very easy to understand. They even include the tools, I ended up using my own, but that was just personal preference. You'll need about double the space of the actual size to build this as the shelves slide in between the metal frame bars from the side instead of from the top or bottom like on most furniture. ... show more

Firstly, instructions are very, very good - you can't make a mistake. I bought this shelf to upgrade for more space than what I currently have. After looking through so many, I went with this one because I was also looking for a deep shelf. This one says it's 13" deep which is why I ordered this but that was deceiving! With the black rod iron, it's 13" but the shelf itself, to put stuff on its 11"!! This is the reason I knocked down a star but I'm a bit not happy since it wasn't that much bigger than what I have! I needed this for my purses and was looking for a deeper shelf so as I grow my collection, instead of displayed face forward, I want to put them in from the side (like a book) and most of my purses are 12-13"deep so I thought this would be perfect but nope. Spent over $200 for something I already had. If they show the surface depth as 11" and 13" with the rod iron, then they updated their description. Not there as I'm leaving this review. Would've returned but it's super heavy, good quality and it came with 4 hooks that you can put on the sides to hang stuff - that was a nice surprise and helped with fitting more purses. Pretty easy to put together but I recommend assembling it in a very open area since the shelves had to be slid in from the sides and it's all one big piece. Looks great and is very open which makes the room feel like you haven't lost any space, unlike normal bookshelves. I use mine for manga and there's plenty of room to double stack books if I need to, and it's very sturdy I'm not worried about it falling over or the boards bowing at all. I got two of these to accommodate my ever expanding book collection. First thing to note. These are some heavy motherlickers. Almost 100 lbs each. You're probably going to want help bringing them inside. Assembly was pretty straight-forward. Directions were clear. A little time consuming, about an hour per unit to assemble. I would highly recommend completing the frame assembly before tightening any of the screws completely to give yourself a little wiggle room when trying to get everything to fit together. Once assembled, they're very sturdy and very attractive. A little on the pricey side for my taste, but probably worth it as I expect they're going to last a long time. ... show more
