Fun and creative!

Pretty fun, educational set, but the cards aren’t well thought out for teaching sentence building
I got this PraxiKidy Sentence Building set for my five-year-old nephew. He’s not even starting kindergarten until the fall, but he’s already reading incredibly well (*shamelessly brags about my super smart little nephew*) and I felt like this would be a nice next step to compliment the phonics work and reading practice we do. The set isn’t bad and he DID have fun and this DID help me introduce and teach him some new concepts in an engaging way. It was great for helping understand nouns and adjectives, but even though the set has enough cards in enough color-coded categories of words to have included subsets like pronouns (SO MANY PRONOUN CARDS), prepositions, conjunctions, indefinite definite articles, and a whole stack of interrogative words, it really fell short when it came to verbs. There were hardly any verbs included and they were linking/helping/auxiliary verbs like “are” and “am.” It made it difficult to explain the basic parts of speech to a young kid and impossible to teach basic sentence structure in the way I wanted to and believe wools have been the most effective. Teaching him about verbs using this kit and its cards forced me to essentially try to teach him the exceptions to a rule before the rule itself. Linking/auxiliary verbs are so much harder to understand conceptually and to identify as clearly separate from other parts of speech, especially for a kindergartener and it’s just bizarre to me that this set didn’t have cards with words like “run,” “jump,” “play,” “read,” “write,” “draw,” etc. —the closest thing to a transitional basic verb was “like” and since almost all of the nouns were singular and “like” can function as several different parts of speech, even it didn’t seem intended to be used in simple sentence structure (examples you could do with the cards in this set include “I like juice,” and “the friends like the park”). Anyway, it’s not a terrible set and it does include a handful of blank cards that you can fill in with whatever words you want (it does not come with a dry erase marker to write on them with, though, and I worry that some kids will accidentally get ahold of sharpies and make permanent new cards) and the cards it comes with would be appropriate for an expansion set to add more nuanced parts of speech words to the mix to create more complex sentences, but as is, this set skips over a really important foundational part of sentence building and learning parts of speech by not including simple action verbs to at least help illustrate the function of a verb and the basic concept to kids. Part of me wants to give the set 3 stars for this deficit, but my nephew had enough fun (even with the limitations) to keep it at a 4. ... show more

GREAT SENTENCE BUILDING PUZZLES FOR YOUNG LEARNERS
I am a homeschooling mama of 4. Ages 3-11. This sentence building puzzle set has come in handy! we use it so often for my 3 and 6 year old. The puzzle set comes with 120 pieces. This hands-on sentence building puzzle teaches sight words, grammar, and sentence structure in a fun and engaging way that keeps my youngest children engaged and learning. The parts of speech (noun, adjective, pronoun, etc) are color coded, making it a little easier to for young Learners. This puzzle is also a Dry Erase Board. Kids don’t just build sentences—they write them, read them, and draw them on the double-sided dry erase board! One side has: Who, What, Where, and When practice while the other side has sentence building. This powerful repetition helps children remember what they learn, instead of forgetting it after one try. This is great for my youngest children like I mentioned who are being introduced to this, but it also works amazing for kinder, 1, and 2 for those children who need to review. This is also an exceptional tool for children who need speech therapy, the ESOL children who are just starting to learn English, Children with Autism, it supports children who have Dyslexia, and other special learning needs. This is great for a classroom but also for homeschooling families. This can be a great gift for a teacher, parent, or speech language pathologist. This can be great to do one on one with a student but also brings enough to complete in small group time. This is AMAZING value for the money and has everything you need to start learning right out of the box! It all stores away nicely in a box too making it easy to travel with or store nicely. Brings 72 sight word cards, 27 photo cards, 8 punctuation cards, 13 blank cards, and 1 double sided dry erase board. sizes: Box to store-8.5"x12.4", board: 8.3" x 11.9", and the cards: 2" x2.56" ... show more

A massive educational hit that actually keeps my 5-year-old focused!
With my oldest son turning 5 and getting ready for the big world of school, I’ve been actively looking for learning activities that feel more like a game and less like a boring worksheet. This sentence-building sight word puzzle set has been an absolute treasure for our morning routine. It turns reading practice into an interactive, hands-on activity that genuinely sparks his curiosity and builds his confidence before he takes a step into kindergarten. The puzzle pieces are beautifully constructed from thick, durable material that can easily survive the eager, heavy-handed gripping of a 5-year-old (and the occasional flying piece from his 3-year-old brother). The color-coded design is brilliant, helping him naturally understand parts of speech and how to structure a complete sentence without getting overwhelmed. It is a fantastic tool for speech development, vocabulary expansion, and early literacy. We love sitting down together at the kitchen table to make silly sentences, which has turned reading into a fun bonding experience rather than a daily struggle. It packs away neatly into its box, making it a spectacular classroom-quality resource for home use or homeschooling. If you want a learning game that genuinely delivers results and keeps a high-energy kid engaged, this set is a total must-have. ... show more

Works Great With Some Modifications
I picked this up to use as a literacy center to help my students with sentence writing, and it has been a great addition to my collection of sentence-building activities. The activity is educational and does a nice job reinforcing sight words and simple sentence structure, which is exactly what I was looking for. A few things to keep in mind: there are a lot of pieces, and unless your students can read most of the words independently, they will need some guidance to get started. What works for me is limiting the word choices and focusing on key sight words, then having students build sentences and either write them on the board or record them in a mini booklet. For that purpose, this has been really helpful. One thing to note is that there is no built-in organization system for the pieces. I solved this by creating a color-coded sheet to track the pieces in use, which works well once you set it up. The puzzle pieces are a good size for students to handle and read, and the font is age-appropriate — something I especially appreciate for my special education students. The materials are good quality and durable, which matters when a large number of students are using them regularly. For the way I use it, this is exactly what I needed. ... show more

Great learning tool
This is a helpful easy to use educational tool for homeschool or kids who need extra help. The pieces are thinner, but actually feel well constructed and strong. The size is perfect to fit in a back pack or in a folder and to bring it along with you anywhere. I like how it breaks the sentence down for them so it shows them how to properly make the sentence. It's also nice that on some cards it has a picture to go with the word. It is age appropriate for my 1st going on to second grader. I gave it 4 stars only because I am use to things that have dry erase boards coming with a dry erase marker and sometimes an actual eraser. ... show more

Fun and education - best of both worlds!
I picked this up as a learning tool for my daughter, and it’s honestly been a really great addition to our home learning setup. I love anything that turns learning into play, and this definitely does that. It focuses on sentence structure and sight words, but in a way that feels more like a puzzle than schoolwork. The set comes with a ton of pieces (120 total), all color-coded by parts of speech: nouns, pronouns, verbs, punctuation, etc. The color system makes it super easy for kids to understand how sentences are built without getting overwhelmed. My kids started recognizing patterns pretty quickly and were putting together simple sentences before I expected them to. There are also some blank pieces included, which is a really nice touch. You can customize words based on what your child is currently learning, which makes it more flexible and useful long-term. The double-sided dry erase board is another highlight, one side is for building and writing sentences, and the other has “who, what, where, when” prompts to help with comprehension. The puzzle pieces are made from sturdy cardstock and hold up well with regular use. They are a bit smaller than I expected from the listing, but after watching my kids use them, the size actually makes sense for little hands. They connect easily and stay together, which helps when kids are reading their sentences back. As someone who isn’t a professional teacher, this gave me a lot more confidence when it comes to introducing early reading and grammar at home. It’s especially helpful if you’re homeschooling or just want to give your kids a head start in a fun, low-pressure way. Overall, it’s a really solid educational toy that keeps kids engaged while actually teaching useful skills. Pros: Makes learning sentence structure fun and interactive Color-coded system helps kids understand grammar visually Includes 120 pieces plus customizable blank tiles Double-sided dry erase board adds extra learning activities Durable, kid-friendly materials Great for homeschooling or extra practice at home Cons: Puzzle pieces are smaller than they appear in photos Can be a bit to keep organized with so many pieces ... show more

Brilliant Interactive Tool for Early Reading and Writing
I am incredibly impressed with this Sentence Building Puzzle kit! It has been an absolute game-changer for making language arts interactive, tactile, and highly visual. If you are trying to bridge the gap between recognizing individual sight words and constructing complete thoughts, this set is perfect. Clever Coding & Layout: The design of this kit is brilliant. The color-coded puzzle pieces make it incredibly easy for young learners to understand basic grammar structure—helping them visually sort parts of speech like nouns, verbs, and punctuation. The puzzle-style interlocking edges are a fantastic touch because they physically reinforce the concept of words fitting together to create a complete sentence. Interactive Features: The included sentence building mats are fantastic, but the dry-erase writing section at the bottom is what really elevates this product. It allows kids to transition perfectly from building the sentence with puzzle pieces to practicing their handwriting by copying it down underneath. It keeps the learning hands-on and keeps them engaged much longer than traditional worksheets. Quality & Longevity: With 120 pieces, you get a massive variety of sight words and vocabulary to create countless combinations. The material feels thick, durable, and ready to survive heavy daily use in a homeschool setup, preschool, or kindergarten classroom. This is an exceptional educational resource that makes learning to read and write feel like a fun game. It is worth every penny! ... show more
