Initial Review - Phenomenal!

What an incredible helmet! The sound is amazing too! The fit and finish is spectacular, not like an entry level helmet. So, my big problem has been that I have a Honda Goldwing, and the Apple CarPlay only works when you have a headset connected. I have a Shoei Neotec II helmet with the Sena SRL built in. It supposedly has 10-12 hrs talk time, but it is more like 7-8 hrs when you have a passenger and are on intercom. Most of our trips are 10 hrs or so, meaning my battery on the headset goes out very routinely an hour or two before we get to the final destination and I lose Apple Carplay once the headset is dead. I saw of review of this helmet by CruiseMan on YouTube. He was impressed and for the price, it seemed like a good deal, especially when I saw the talk time was 21 hours! There is no way I'll be on the road 21 hours, and no way I will run into the dead battery with this thing. So my main reason for purchasing it was to get the 21 hours talk time before I run into a dead battery and lose my Apple CarPlay navigation. With that said, I was in for a really big surprise. The helmet is not like the original Sena Outrush which is definitely an entry level helmet. This thing is way more like my Shoei when it comes to fit, finish, and quality. The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to connect to my phone and Sena app to upgrade the firmware to the latest version. One, two, three and done. The next thing I noticed after connecting to my bike was it's incredible sound, and I mean incredible sound. It far outperforms the sound quality of my Sena SRL, and that communication system alone costs nearly what this whole helmet costs. The inside of the helmet appears to be made of very high quality material with very durable looking cheek pads. The fit was phenomenal, and I have big ears which tend to get compressed over an 8-10 hour ride, but the ear channels are big enough to fit my ears without them touching the pads. It was incredibly quiet on my test ride. Again, up there with the Shoei, and that is saying something. I made some phone calls and again, the sound quality was incredible. Way outperforming anything I've used in the past. Nothing like the Sena Outrush and louder and more clear than the Shoei with the built-in Sena SRL. The air flow was very good with the top vent allowing for plenty of air to flow in and exit the back of the helmet, and even then, it was quiet. That was nice. The one thing I didn't like was the sun visor. It's barely a visor. Actually, there is nothing wrong with the visor, it works well and seems well built, but it is just about a shade darker than the clear face shield. It is nowhere near dark enough to qualify as a sun visor. But that is an easy fix because I always install a photochromatic fog shield inside my visor, and it automatically get darker depending on the brightness of the sun. I'll be installing that next because the sun visor, as is, isn't a sun visor. It is just nowhere near dark enough. All that said, I am giving it 5 stars. Great sound, great quality, SUPER great talk time at 21 hours, breathable yet quiet, and very good fit around my ears and cheeks. Very nice helmet

This is a solidly built helmet. It’s going to be somewhat heavier than a full face but you expect that in most modular helmets because of all the mechanical parts involved. My initial impressions are that it’s a good quality helmet. Everything snaps open or closed,up or down,in a very solid,satisfying way. The padding is nice,a little stiff,I wear a Medium in all my other helmets and this is pretty tight,especially on my cheeks,but I’m okay with that because I expect it will wear in with use and I prefer a little bit of a hug vs a jiggle. The sound system is very nice. The option of changing the bass,mid-range and treble if you choose helps the functionality I think. You also can crank this up and hear your music with no problem and I didn’t notice any real distortion either. Because it’s a modular you’re going to get some wind effects,but I rode in 26 mph winds in it today and it was very tolerable. Using good quality ear plugs will probably nearly eliminate most wind noise and you could still easily hear the music,wind and all. I haven’t used the mesh yet but I’m eager to as I expect it will be as good in quality as other aspects of this helmet. The same for calls. This is an upgraded,next level Outrush R and it shows that thought was put into it. My son owns an Outrush R and the quality of it impressed me enough to want one like it,but honestly,this is better. A couple very small bones to pick might be that the drop down sun visor could be just a tad darker but I wouldn’t consider it a deal breaker. There is a consideration for people like myself who wear glasses and that is that this helmet isn’t specifically designed for wearing glasses. I have a Scorpion that even is labeled”for glasses” or something like that. The problem arose for me because the legs of my glasses are apparently fairly long and between that and the stiff padding I couldn’t get them to settle on my nose properly. I could still see,but it was something I wasn’t expecting. More annoying than anything but not dangerous. I do have another pair with shorter legs and they work just fine with no interference. The drop down sun visor worked just fine while wearing glasses,so no worries there. Overall this is an impressive modular helmet at this price point. Everything about it feels solid and of good quality and the comms are very ergonomic and have good customizable sound too. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again or give one as a gift. Because it only comes in matte black or gloss white,I did what I always do to my matte helmets and put holographic stickers on mine to make it more noticeable while I’m riding.Plus it’s fun to make the blah colored helmets personally your own but I’m a 64 yo grandma and I think we need to not take ourselves so seriously. Just my rebellious little old opinion,take it with a grain of salt. But be confident that this is a good helmet that does what it says it will do and not make you think twice. ... show more

Good idea but horrible product

I’ve owned the half helmet sena for many years and loved it. Due to having to wear glasses I wanted a modular helmet. Figured I couldn’t go wrong buying the newest fancy one. Wrong. It’s very easy to setup but that’s about the only good so far. Speakers are very quiet. Granted I can hear music and phone calls at any speed. However on phone calls, the mic cuts out at 55mph. Tried all settings in the app and nothing makes a difference. Now the weird part, the intercom works at any speed with the face shield up. But with the intercom on the music is now quiet that you can’t hear it. Even when no one is talking. App seems to be lacking. ... show more

Great helmet for the money

I have several helmets but my LS2 Advant helmet created too many pressure points and was uncomfortable after a while. I bought it for the flip over feature, but it's just become too uncomfortable. When I bought that helmet, I had to also buy the comms too which was a 20B from Sena that worked with that helmet. That added another ~$200 to the cost of the helmet. So, when I started to look at a new modular helmet, I decided to look at Sena which has the comms built in. For the price, you really can't beat this helmet. I followed the sizing guide an ordered a large though I have used XL helmets in the past. It fit snug but comfortably, so I know people say it runs small, but I think new helmets always feel tight at first until you "wear them in". I like the look of the helmet (white version) and the comms is way better than the add on ones (Sena 20 B) with my other helmets. The sound is incredible! The speakers in the helmet were as good as some of my headphones I use to listen to music. I used the mesh intercom with my wife on the back, and it worked perfectly and no wind noise coming through. There was somewhat of a delay in the transmission, but nothing that would be difficult to deal with. I was able to easily pair it to my Goldwing and use Apple Car Play without any issues. It actually connects faster than my other helmets with the older comms systems. I gave it 4 stars because of a few things. The sun visor is (like others have said) is very lightly tinted. So, if you are using that without sunglasses you may find it way to light. With sunglasses it's probably sufficient and may be the reason for their design. The other thing I was annoyed at is the user manual. It is only online, which is fine, but lacked any explanations, just pictures. When I looked at the Impulse manual which has similar functionality (and more expensive), they took the time to put in text with the diagrams to explain what to do. The Impulse manual is 75 pages compared to the Outrush which is 25. I mean really, can't you copy/paste from one to the other and make a more complete and easier to understand manual! It's not like they print them anymore. Overall, it's a great helmet and a good price point when you consider what you are getting with the built-in comms - and you don't have to install it! ... show more

Great Helmet

This helmet is great! I wasn't sure about the size when I ordered it, but it fit just fine. The Bluetooth work flawlessly and the speakers in the helmet have a great sound that you can actually hear above the noise of the bike. This is the first helmet that I've owned with a modular design and I love it. I'm still learning about all the other features. There was a YouTube video that said it could pick up FM radio, but I haven't found a way to do that yet. Probably have to pick it up on your cellphone. Poor build quality but stylish

Fell apart in one week. Absolute crap for connection of visor and the internal trim pieces fell off in ride. The only good thing about it was the speakers they are quite loud and clear but really good speakers and a Bluetooth connection is worth like 40 bucks not 400. I sent it back after having to super glue it to get home. I like the matte finish though it looks stylish if that's all you care about ... show more

I love this helmet. I ordered a size larger then my measurements but I was on the line between small and medium so got the medium. It fits fine but may need to see if there is some padding I can get to put in the top. It feels like it should sit a little higher on my head but overall it is great. Great (and plenty loud) intercom/media playback

Beautiful design, intercom required zero installation unlike my Schuberth. Sound quality is the best I've heard. PLENTY loud enough unlike 99% of the other intercom/media players out there (including my other Sena products). Wind noise is on par with other similar modular helmets from respected manufacturers (none of them are perfect). Yes, you can buy helmets that are a little lighter but this truly is an impressive setup and I love the intercom. Mesh connection is simple, can be done with the on-helmet "remote" or the Sena app. Can't speak to overall impact protection as compared to other helmets (I'm sure YouTube can help with that). ... show more
