  • Solid build
Recently acquired gold brass colored lacquer model via seller "Quinn the Eskimo". Was impressed by prompt delivery and how well-packaged it arrived. Better-than-average-quality carrying case. Neck cork seems ok. Great sound quality, and relatively easy to arrive at a decent intonation even with a basic reed and ligature alone. However, I was a little disappointed that it arrived by default with what seems to be an incorrect (too small) cleaning swab for the inside of the horn. The size of the included swab is actually a bit ridiculous... It seems like someone somewhere messed up and put a Soprano swab into this Tenor case. I had planned on ordering good accessories including cleaning stuff anyway so... No big deal. I am sad to report that upon the second day of testing, I can definitely confirm the lower D and mid G (and to a lesser extent mid A) are warbly, inconsistent... Disappointed. There seems to be some kind of issue with either those specific pads or associated keywork. Not sure if it's an air leak or what. I'm probably going to have to take it to a local instrument repairperson to give it a look to see options on fixing it. If the sax had arrived fully functional, then I would have given 5 stars. 4 seems appropriate for this review, as I cannot fully confirm if the seller was completely honest as advertising this as "new"condition, as was claimed. ... show more

  • True, clear tone, solid adult model
This was my first sax after playing clarinet for many years, so I am not as knowledgeable as some other commentators. Within a few months, I did run into a problem with the keys for the d/d-sharp notes. I took it into a repairman and he told me he had to make some basic adjustments, which were typical for factory-produced models, but the cost was just $50. or so. The instrument gives a clear, true note without any particular "personality" so it is up to the player to add their own style or sound. In that sense, it might be better for jazz, standards, and pop than maybe for rock or funk. It is heavy and feels like a professional, not a student, model. Mechanically, I have had no basic problems other than the original one after about 6 years. One or two screws began to unscrew but that is to be expected and I fixed those myself. Overall, I would say this is a very good instrument (although I don't have other models to compare to), which does not limit your musicianship, and excellent value for the money. Although you may need an adjustment at first, as my repairman explained to me, you are getting a discount of maybe hundreds or thousands of dollars for a factory-produced instrument versus the cost for more elite, hand-made models, whereas the repair bill for an adjustment is likely to be very modest as it was for me. ... show more
