My son and my husband both love it. May have to eventually get another so they don’t fight over it. Horn could easily be marched with, but won’t, to keep it safe. Plays smoothly and effortlessly, as one would expect from Selmer. Using an old C* mouthpiece on it. Haven’t tried the stock mouthpiece yet. This Selmer SAS280 alto sax is a remarkable find! It arrived in perfect condition ahead of the scheduled delivery date and was well packaged. Having played professionally for over 40 years, I can definitively state that this instrument plays as well as any professional model Selmer Paris, Yamaha or Yanigasawa I have ever played. Projection and tonal quality is rich and full. Other than construction quality, the one characteristic that really distinguishes the lesser horns from the much more expensive "professional" horns is how well an instrument plays in tune with itself, and the intonation on this saxophone is spot on in every register. The fit and finish is beautiful. The mechanical action is smooth and quiet, and altissimo is flawless. I purchased a "used, like new". outfit for $1799 and it is virtually indistinguishable from new. When compared to the price of professional instruments ($6,000+) or even other intermediate grade horns ($3,000+), this model is a tremendous bargain. I never expected to be able to own such a fine instrument in this price range. An exceptional value...I could not be more pleased! ... show more

I spent several weeks in music shops and on the web. When I found this Sax it sounded almost too good to be true. I wrote the seller and they not only replied to my question but supplied additional information on the instrument. I decided to give it a try and when the sax arrived I was amazed that it was even better than advertised. The "used price" was good, but this Sax was almost like new (as they stated). I have been playing it for about 2 months and really enjoy the sound and overall quality of this instrument. I highly recommend this seller and this particular Alto Saxophone. This is a mid- range sax and is excellent for advanced school musician and the casual/semi-pro like my self. Selmer has a winner in this saxophone. It is more money than the $500 entry sax (do NOT even consider the $200 to 300 on beginner Sax's). After over 30 years of abstinence, I am having fun AND quickly picking up the "good sound" I remember. I don't think I will ever need another instrument. ... show more

I was excited to own this sax due to great reviews. It was a let down once I was able to play it more. It sounds flatter and has a thinned or weak output compared to my less known rental sax.

This is a solid instrument with good range. It has good internal intonation and enables an easy reach to the bottom of the horn. The switch from upper to lower register has a bit of a wild tone but that can be controlled by the player. Intonation is good up high.
