  • Great system
I wanted to games for this system. When playing with this interesting console. It was a great experience. It also has a very quiet disc drive. I'm considering getting more games for this system!

  • The games are great, well built for its time, and a lot of diffrent style games.
This system is a lot of fun and is definitely vary interesting to have. After SEGA dropped the 32x and CD, as a company they have always tried to do things different than there competitors in order to sell units. With this system it shows. In terms of hardware its more powerful than the ps1 and depending upon what game you have it will show. How ever at the time of its release developers had a hard time with it due to the fact it was the first system to have two cpu cores and due to some pretty bad choices by SEGA at its release alienated a lot of its third party support. This also shows. In terms of games it has some great 3d games, mostly Japanese, while on the other hand most of the games were 2d games. Games like Astal, and KOF are a lot of fun. For the collectors this system is a great buy. A collectible version of this system is fairly easy on the pocket book. A great tip is to buy the action reply plus found here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HFAWLU/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_img_sol_5 . Its a little more expensive here but the average price is 30 dollars. This will make the games a lot smoother while opening up all regions on your console and will give you more storage space so you don't need to buy any extras that would cost you more money. The games cost can vary greatly; starting at 5 dollars and going all the way up to an average of 300 for the most rare games. Luckily they don't usually go above 30 dollars when in a complete set. For the variety this system is great. Its mostly known for its arcade fighters and SHMUPS, but if you look its easy to find great fun games you can have fun with either on your own or with friends making it vary useable as well. As an anime fan I also have to note that the Japanese games for this system are a lot of fun. The Saturn was the first system to actually have the capabilities necessary to play games known by the generation it represents. Due to this SEGA made a lot of tie in games in order to appeal to its fans. Because of this the Saturn was the first system to have so many games dedicated to an alternate fan base. This means that the anime games are mostly unique to this system and are made with a touch of extra care. For a fan of old school anime and the easy to remove region encoding this was a definite plus for the system. ... show more

  • The Most underrated Console ever
Ill Be Honest, I didnt know what a Sega saturn was until late 2012, and I may have had one as a kid, and I played the arcade ports on the PS2, and saw the graphics, and wanted one. Only Problem was They are hard to find in N. America, being only 2 million were sold, thanks to the Playstation. Rundown: The saturn was released before the PS1 in japan and everywhere else, that was a bad Idea, due to store chains being pissed with this suprise launch. and because of this, It didnt sell well outside of Japan, even though its more advanced then the PS1, but near impossible to program for. But used right, and It was Very Impressive. the One I got is a model 2, and it does the same things but has slightly less load times, and being better then new PS1's Also the Graphical User Interface, or BIOS screen is awesome, Having a light show and a spaceship background, its way better then the PS1 again, and having 2 Sound processors, it can hold more music and gameplay. And also has a Clock and built in memory, another 2 plus' over the PS1, and a backup battery that can be replaced. the build Quality is A- and feels lighter then the PS1 at the same time. and the backup cartridge can hold games, add more RAM, (like the N64) and even play import games. Negatives: -Using Quadrillaterals, (basically 3D squares) over polygons, it was a pain to make games on it. -The release, being a suprise launch, this made it virtually dead. but not today! -the A/V cable can be hard to find, but new ones are 5$! and thats about it! Positives: Built in memory, no memory card needed. and a memory cartridge can be used +Clock, always comes in handy +GD+G player +Fun BIOS screen +Video CD capabilities +3D analog controller +High Build quality. -Not as many games as the PS1,+ but the ones that do, look exceptional! +Stock controllers feel and play great If you like sega or the PS1, you will Love this Great console. ... show more

  • The Saturn: A lost gem
The Sega Saturn was Sega's ultimate downfall with horrible sales and mostly mediocre games. But there are a few exceptions. The Saturn was created during an era where both 2D and 3D games were still the norm. 3D being a new concept. The Saturn was designed to run both platforms and had a partitioned motherboard, half 2D and half 3D processing. This made creating Saturn games very difficult as the creator had to bypass an entire half of the board or incorporate both. The System just by itself is a technological marvel of past generations and is unique in that sense. The Saturn saw some of the best 2D spaceship shooters of all time come to it's screens such as Radiant Silvergun and Darius Gaiden. It also created some of the best 3D games that would live on through the decades and inspire games to come. Some of these games such as the Panzer Dragoon titles were amazing breakthroughs of the era. I highly recommend this system to anyone who is building a collection because this system truly is a lost gem. ... show more
