  • Eh, pass on this one
Overall this game is nice to look at, but the controls lag so much that it is nearly unplayable. If you like video game pinball I would look elsewhere.

  • Hyper 3D Pinball for the Sega Saturn
Hyper 3D Pinball was originally released in 1996 by Virgin Interactive for the Sega Saturn. The game features six tables(Fun Fair, Myst & Majik, Road King USA, Star Quest, The Gangster, The Monster). Each table has its own unique characteristics with different types of bumpers, loops, and multiple ramps. All six tables are in the modern style(90's) with a busy playfield and an LCD screen complementing the action. The sprite-based graphics looks nice and sharp. You've got a choice of several on-screen views including the top-down scrolling and the 2/3 whole table view(my favorite). When you make certain shots, you are treated to an up-close rendered view of the metal ball as it travels through the pinball machine. Fun Fair is by far the simplest table and ideal for beginners. For me the physics of the ball is pretty good at simulating an actual pinball machine but still not as realistic as from the Pro Pinball series. Also certain tables are so cluttered with stuff it's kind of hard to tell what's going on at times. Still it's a fun game with lots of variety and a solid choice for pinball enthusiast. There are a handful of other pinball games on the Saturn you might want to try, these include: LAST GLADIATORS DIGITAL PINBALL, TRUE PINBALL, and PRO PINBALL THE WEB. ... show more

  • great pinball game for its day
This was a great pinball video game in the mid 90s, better then anything that had come before IMO. It includes six tables, some of which are super easy like Space Quest 2049, and some which are challenging like Myst and Majik. The music was pretty good too, especially the music for the Gangster, Myst and Majik, and Monster tables. For the time the 3D view was awesome, helpful to see the entire table at once but still looked pleasing to the eye. The game's graphics still look good today - rare for a Saturn game. The gameplay was terrific, the L and R buttons are ideal for the flippers and bumping the table works just as you would expect, and is vital. For as awesome as this game was/is, unless it can be found for really really cheap (and I mean CHEAP), its not worth its price except to Saturn collectors. Pinball FX2, for the Xbox 360 and Windows 8, builds and improves on everything that made Hyper 3D Pinball so great and it costs a lot less. Still, this is one of the best pinball video games I've ever played. ... show more
