A friend of my recently went on a backpacking trip with some friends and told me about a water bucket one of the guys had. I am going on a week backpack trip on the Colorado Trail with some friends and decided to try this bucket as sometimes I know the water source will be a ways from the campsite. On a recent two night camping trip I took the bucket - I won't camp without it again! Easy to fill in a shallow creek, it does, in fact sit upright when filled with water - overnight even - on a flat surface, has a little grab handle on one side to easily pour water into any container, even ones with a small opening.     • Game changer for getting water while backpacking

One thing I will say is that you're going to have better results if you do use two hands. Originally I bought this folding bucket to be used with some kind of paracord to drop it into a creek or stream from altitude, Maybe 6 to 10 ft High, I like the edge of the bank. But I soon realized that you really do need to use two hands for the opening to open at its widest point, to be able to collect the most amount of water. It does come with a cool carrying case, and the folding bucket itself packs down very small, maybe the size of 4 in x 4 in, and maybe 1 in to 2 in thick or so. I do love the material, and I also love the handle, with the additional helper handle to help you pour it into say a single wall bottle, or something like I cnoc vecto for filtration. I'm actually going to buy a couple more of them when I have the money, to keep them in EDC packs, emergency supplies for earthquake preparedness, etc. ... show more

I would highly recommend the Sea to Summit Folding Bucket. I specifically purchased this bucket to be part of a water filtration system on a multiday backpacking/light rafting trip in the Grand Canyon. The water in the both the Colorado River and the Little Colorado river are extremely high in mineral content and sediment, giving them a chocolate milk like appearance. I needed a bucket to hold the water while an added flocculant worked it's magic. The bucket and it's case are very light weight and well constructed. It is advertised as free standing and I found that to be true only if the bucket was half full or less. I found it to work best when hung from a tree. The carrying handle is very strong and had no trouble holding 20L of water and mud overnight. I would buy this product again ... show more

This is one of the best light weight foldable bucket I found. It works just as advertised. It is great for gathering water from a stream and bringing it back to the campsite with ease. I love that it stands up on its own and is durable yet so light weight. The only thing I wish it had, was some sort of lid or covering. This bucket I bought to catch rainwater from my tent rainfly. That said empty it doesn't stand well, full it stands pretty solidly. If your just camping and going to the faucet to get water your good, if you're off the beaten path and try doing what I intended you'll either have to use sticks to get it to stand or possibly a piece of paracord around the handle and hook it to your poles. ... show more

It stands up all by itself, and it's made of a very rugged material, so it doesn't seem like it will rip any time soon. I've found that it's easiest to fill by pouring water into it from some other source. You can of course dip it in water like a bucket, but it will only fill up half way due to physics and such, blame Einstein, not the bucket. Anyways, it folds up really tiny, lightweight, yet very sturdy and remarkably large when unfolded. I'll definitely be bringing it camping again and again. ... show more

It is awesome but the bottom of the bucket is quite unstable. That means unless you have it suspended or in a flat environment it will spill and that is very annoying after walking 8-10 mins from the water source. The handle looks like its gonna tear but don’t let it fool you, it holds. Overall great item for backpacking ... show more

Great bucket, much more durable than it would seem. Definitely worth the extra weight over the Ultrasil fabric version. It holds water perfectly (for long periods) and folds back to its original size easily, but it shouldn't be trusted to stand up when full. I use it to extinguish camp fires and have a ready source of water to filter when backpacking and it works well for those purposes. You will want to hang it from a branch, as when standing the slightest bump or disturbance will cause it to collapse. Overall a great product for backpacking. ... show more
