I'm using this connector for a custom built motor scooter. It enables disconnecting the engine from the wire harness. It has a cap to protect the socket when unplugged. My suggestion is to start building your wire harness at this connector instead of adding it on last. It'll make life a lot easier. The more pins, the closer they are together. Soldiering 22 pins (44 total) was challenging but, as stated, would have been easier if I started at the connector instead of ending there. Magnifying goggles are very helpful soldiering and inspecting your work. The pins are numbered on both ends of each row and on both plug and socket. For high current connection (5 amp estimated) I used two pins for one 14 gauge wire. Don't know if the connector will handle it or melt. I think it'll be fine.

I've got several of these going through the roof of my van, from 2 to 6 conductor. They're all easy to assemble and solder. There's enough "wiggle room" in the body of the connector that once you solder the connections, you can push a bit of the wire up into the body as you screw the thing together. You can't do that with connectors like 1/4" or XLR or certainly not any coaxial connector. No leaks, assembles easy. It's a little tough to paint, if that's your desire. The plastic likely contains some kind of siliy con carne or similar. Mine are all mostly black (body) with just the threaded locking ring(s) in blue. Zombies aren't attracted to blue. You're safe. I've purchased a similar connector from this manufacture in the past. The previous purchase was different in the gauge wire for which it had been designed but did have a locking ring on the plug assembly. This current connector was designed for a larger gauge wire. This larger connector was engineered lacking a locking ring on the electrical contact portion of the removable plug assembly of the connector. In short, this means when you remove the plug from the static socket portion of the connector, the plug wants to disassemble. Also, any rotation of the connector, once secured to the socket, will cause the plug to loosen and disassemble.
