So worth it!!
Style: Laminating Machine
This laminator is the best!! It is perfect for those smaller jobs and saves me from having to go down to the work room. It saves me time and heats up quickly. I hate that I waited so long to purchase one because it has been a game changer.

Great laminator
Style: Laminating Machine
I liked this machine so much because of the many use cases for it, I bought another one for my father. I like the fact I can laminate operating procedures and safety cards to be weather proof and for outdoors. The laminating is easy and never failed. Great value and great durability

Fast Warm-Up, Wide Format, and Flawless Results
Style: Laminating Machine
I originally picked up this Scotch Wide Thermal Laminator because I had reached the point where I was tired of finding reasons to laminate something and then realizing I didn't have a laminator wide enough to handle it. Between school papers, certificates, reference sheets, signs, kids' projects and the occasional document I want to protect from the inevitable spilled drink, laminating has become one of those things I don't think about until I suddenly need it. This machine has turned out to be much more useful than I expected, and the 13-inch width is probably my favorite feature. Having that extra room means I'm not limited to standard letter-size sheets, and even when I'm laminating something smaller, I don't feel like I'm trying to thread a needle to get the pouch lined up correctly. The first thing I noticed when using it was how quickly it gets ready. Older laminators I've used required enough warm-up time that I'd turn them on, wander away to do something else and occasionally forget why I turned them on in the first place. This one has a roughly one-minute warm-up, so by the time I've put my document into the laminating pouch and made sure everything is straight, the machine is usually ready for business. Feed the sealed edge in first, let the rollers take over, and out comes a cleanly laminated sheet. There's no need to push or pull it through. I've had good results with smooth, even lamination without bubbles or sections that look like they didn't get enough heat. I also appreciate having separate settings for 3-mil and 5-mil pouches. For everyday papers and things that just need some protection, 3-mil is plenty. When I want something more substantial and rigid, 5-mil gives it that heavier, more durable feel. The machine itself is straightforward enough that there's almost no learning curve. There aren't a dozen buttons, menus or settings to figure out. Turn it on, select the appropriate thickness, wait for it to heat up and laminate. There's also a pouch release lever if something gets misaligned or starts feeding incorrectly, which is one of those features you hope you don't need but are very glad to have when you do. The extra-wide format is where this model really separates itself from the little laminators I've used before. The 13-inch opening gives me much more flexibility for larger projects, and it also makes ordinary 8.5 x 11 documents incredibly easy to feed. I can concentrate on keeping the document straight instead of worrying about whether I'm perfectly centered in a narrow opening. For teachers, parents, homeschoolers, small offices, real estate materials, craft projects or anyone who regularly makes signs and reusable sheets, that additional width is worth having. Now for something important that I researched before continuing to use this laminator: the Scotch TL1302 recall. When I first heard about the recall, the similarity in the model numbers definitely caught my attention. My machine, however, is labeled **TL1302X**. The published recall information for the earlier affected laminators identifies machines whose device label shows **TL1302**, without the additional X. I checked the label on the bottom of my actual machine rather than relying solely on an online product title, and mine specifically says TL1302X. I've included photos of my packaging with this review because the box also identifies this unit as **TL1302X**. I wanted that information visible for anyone else who sees “TL1302” in discussions about the recall and understandably gets concerned. Based on the published recall identification information I found, TL1302X is not one of the affected model designations. Of course, recalls and manufacturer guidance can change, so anyone concerned about a particular unit should verify the model number on the machine itself against the current official 3M recall information rather than relying solely on my experience or an Amazon listing. That's exactly what I did with mine. As for actually living with the laminator, I like that it's relatively slim considering how wide it is. The integrated handle is a surprisingly useful touch because I don't leave a laminator permanently sitting on my counter. I can pull this one out when I need it, use it and put it away without wrestling with an awkward piece of office equipment. The cord is plenty adequate for normal tabletop use, and the machine feels substantial enough that it doesn't slide around while I'm feeding a pouch through it. The biggest compliment I can give it is that laminating has gone from being a project to being a quick little task. I can decide I want to protect a document, turn the machine on, grab a pouch, and a couple of minutes later I'm finished. That's exactly what I want from something like this. I don't need a laminator to be exciting. I need it to heat quickly, feed consistently, seal evenly and be wide enough that I'm not constantly wishing I had purchased the larger machine. This Scotch checks all of those boxes. After using it, I'm glad I went with the wide version instead of saving a few dollars on a smaller machine. The 13-inch capacity gives me room to grow into projects I haven't even thought of yet, while still being perfectly convenient for everyday letter-size pages. The fast warm-up is genuinely useful rather than just a specification printed on the box, and the simple controls make this something anyone in the house can use without needing an instruction manual beside them. Overall, this has been a very practical addition to my home office. It's quick, easy to operate, doesn't take up an unreasonable amount of storage space and produces the clean laminated results I was looking for. Just make sure you do what I did and check the actual model number on the bottom of your machine, particularly because of the older TL1302 recall. Mine is clearly marked **TL1302X**, and I've included photos of the packaging so other shoppers can see the model designation for themselves. For something I originally thought I'd only pull out occasionally, I'm finding quite a few excuses to laminate things now. Apparently once you own a good laminator, everything starts looking like it could use a protective plastic coating. ... show more

Very disappointed and aggravated
Style: Laminating Machine
First off, the delivery kept getting delayed. After receiving it, it was delivered in the Scotch Box with a patch on the end. It looked like it got crushed. The laminator looked ok but had no instructions and one of the cardboard end caps was missing. I started laminating. It heated up quickly so, I ran about 30 plus sheets. The first 15 were fine but I didn’t notice the rest were NOT sealing. Air pockets all over! I don’t think the laminator stayed hot enough. It shut off in the middle of laminating. I turned it back on and started again. I used Scotch laminating sheets like I’ve always have with no issues. What annoys me the most is all the time I put into prepping my task cards only to redo all of them. ... show more

I had a smaller laminater and upgraded to this one. Wow! It heats up fast, laminates quickly and cleanly, and is light weight. I wish I bought this one to begin with.

Favorite classroom tool

I love this laminator. It was my favorite tool for my classroom. I had to buy a second one. My first burned out. No real fault of the product. We used it a ton. We were hard on it…like used it as if it was industrial strength. I like having the option of 3 and 5 ml. We use both, and the release lever is great. ... show more
