I spent about 15 years in the office supply industry, and one lesson became crystal clear: tape is not the place to save money. Our company shipped products year-round through UPS, FedEx, RPS, Airborne Express, DHL, and our own delivery trucks. Whether a package was traveling across the country or across town, it still had to survive handling, stacking, vibration, loading, and unloading. For years we used economy tape because it looked good on a purchasing spreadsheet. The reality was different. Boxes occasionally came open, products were damaged or lost, employees had to stop and repack shipments, and customer satisfaction suffered. Eventually I convinced the owner to switch to premium 3M shipping tape. After seeing the reduction in failed shipments, damaged products, and repacking labor, he never went back. What he realized was that all the money saved buying economy tape could be wiped out by a handful of failed shipments. A single damaged package, missing item, return, or repack could cost more than the difference in tape for hundreds of boxes. Local deliveries received the same premium tape as packages headed across the country because a box doesn't care whether it's riding in a delivery van or a freight trailer. A weak seal is a weak seal. One thing that often gets overlooked is tensile strength. Most people only think about how sticky a tape is, but the backing matters just as much. Economy tape tends to stretch, neck down, wrinkle, and deform when you pull it tight around a box. You can actually watch it get thinner as tension increases. This tape is different. The backing has enough strength that you can really lean into it while sealing a package. You can pull it tight, work the adhesive into the cardboard, and create a seal that is already under tension before the box ever leaves your hands. Once the adhesive sets and the tape is locked down, it stays locked down. There is real science behind quality tape. Premium adhesives penetrate the microscopic fibers of cardboard and create a bond that becomes part of the package rather than merely sitting on the surface.
