  • Good fit, lightweight, excellent daily rider
I bought the Scorpion EXO R420 to replace a 19 year-old EXO 700 helmet that was my daily rider for years. At least for my head shape, the EXO 420 fits very well. I had another helmet, and although t;he cheek pads fit well, the helmet shape made for a loose fit around the perimeter of my head, so I just kept on using the EXO700 because it fit right. I'm glad to now have a new helmet that fits. I like that the EXO R420 has DOT and Snell Certification. Snug fit at first that becomes very comfortable with a few hours of wear; the vents work, and the helmet has a robust detent that allows the visor to be partially opened (8mm) while you are riding for extra ventilation. The padding is removable for laundering. Scorpion makes quality helmets that perform when needed. I crash tested an EXO700 in 2016 and have faith that the EXO R420 will perform every bit as well. The D-ring strap has a snap that secures the end of the strap from whipping around at higher speeds. The older EXO700 had the mating snap on a flap; the mating snap on the EXO R420 is on the inside end of the strap. I prefer the old snap configuration, that's my only gripe. Also, the face shield is easier to remove and replace on the older helmet. Altogether, the Scorpion EXO R420 is a great helmet, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. ... show more

  • Great Value, good helmet
I bought 2, 1 medium, 1 XL. I think they both run a BIT tight, but I'm willing to let them break in, they fit quite snugly, no flopping. They look good, nice finish and construction, vents are easy to operate and work okay. I like the emblem on the front, nice touch. Best deal on the market I could find for a Snell Approved helmet. I also bought an extra clear shield for each (since they all get scratched, and I might not find them later) and a smoked shield (because they are cooler, but not great at night). In fact I might just buy one more so I can have a daytime and night time helmet without swapping the face shields all the time. The visor seal is excellent, noise is average, I wear glasses, and don't really feel the side rails pressing (and I have a fat face, which might also be why they are a bit tight). I've been a rider for 35+ years, and I think these will go fine for a few more years. They are NOT especially light, you definitely feel like you have a heavy duty helmet, but for longer rides, I expect that will get a little tiring. ... show more

  • Nice affordable and comfortable helmet
I have owned several Scorpion helmets over about a 12 year period. I have been pleased with the comfort and the quality of each helmet. I just received this Scorpion EXO helmet today so though I have not yet actually ridden with this helmet I have given it a good examination for quality and have tried it on and left it on for a bit to judge the comfort. I love the fit - each Scorpion helmet I have owned previously (if I remember correctly 5 of them) has been a size medium. This one is also a medium, fits perfectly and seems to be very comfortable like all the rest. I also want to note that I have not had to replace any of the previous helmets due to any problems with them but because I believe in replacing helmets every couple of years due to the possibility of normal aging processes weakening the protection capabilities of them. From my experience I believe that Scorpion helmets are great helmets at affordable prices and I highly recommend them. UPDATE February 2021 I have now worn this helmet on several motorcycle rides. True to my history with Scorpion helmets, this one is also relatively quiet (at sport bike / highway speeds), comfortable for all day wear warm, hot, and cold weather and the fit is still perfect after a few months of wear. I do, still, recommend Scorpion full face he!mets as an affordable, comfortable, safe and durable motorcycle helmet choice. ... show more

  • Well priced helmet, my favorite so far!
I needed a good quality helmet that didn't break the bank, a few other people recommended this one because its not that bulky and not too heavy, also its Snell rated which isn't that common on helmets priced this low (though many debate ECE is a superior rating) anyhow point said its not bad looking and passes all the checks I was looking for in a helmet. Fit - I got a M, which seems to fit just fine maybe a tad bit tight but that will probably adjust as I use it more. Style - It looks great, the white color is uniform and I can't find anything wrong with the finish, its very streamlined and doesn't make me look like a bobble head. Features - It has spots for adding speakers/com system, the visor/shield is a bit stiff but easy to take off, you can also buy other visors/shields that are mirrored and they even have a pinlock compatible one! (though I havent had my stock one fog up) Safety - Snell rated, not ECE but it should be noted newer versions of the Snell rating may exceed ECE in some ways, it uses a double D ring for securing it, and it has emergency release tabs to make it easy to remove, good stuff. Cons - Well its not the lightest thing but its understandable at the price point, it may be a bit noisier compared to other helmets if you care about noise, and the double D ring might be inconvenient if you plan to frequently take your helmet on/off Overall I really like the helmet so far and for what I paid I'm pretty happy, its basic safety gear that will keep me alive and if something happens I can buy another one without loosing a ton of cash, good enough for me, would recommend if you don't want to break the bank on a helmet. ... show more

  • Good Air Flow
A bit snug compared to same size helmet in Shoei and Bell that ive worn. Snug is ideal, but this one is a pinch too snug for now. Im confident it will soften up in due time. Good airflow at forehead and mouth vents. Kinda tight at my ears. I have big ears. In not convinced that speakers will work for me (me) in this helmet. May be too tight. I like how relatively quiet it is at speed compared to others. Ill probably keep it. Looks fantastic. Doesn't feel heavy at all. Overall very good quality. Excellent price point. I would recommend you try it. It can most certainly be a game changer for the right person. ... show more

  • Great budget helmet. Still wear it to this day
I ended up returning the helmet I bought from Amazon and got it from a different source for cheaper, but this helmet is definitely nice, especially for beginner riders. I wear this helmet with my glasses and there is ample space for the arms to go through. It did fit tight on my head at first but overtime it got a lot more comfortable. The only complaints for this helmet are that the face shield can be a bit tricky to snap on and the helmet is easily scuffed, but I think thats due to the black color which is prone to showing marks. Nothing that touch up paint can't handle. If you don't think you need a helmet when you ride, well look at this picture and see what you would happen if you weren't wearing one! ... show more

  • Hands down, cheapest SNELL rated helmet I am aware of - and decent quality
First helmet for me in many years (last time I got a helmet, all they sold were open face helmets - and they sparkled). I wanted a full face helmet, since if my face gets damaged in a crash, it will hurt. This helmet has decent ventilation (though I've been running with the visor open). The visor does seal down fairly well when you close it. Has those emergency removable cheek pads - I guess helpful post crash. Helmet had great reviews everywhere I looked. It's DOT and SNELL rated (I think most rocks are DOT rated, but the SNELL is a decent step up). I got the flat black and have been riding in the sun at 93+ degrees - it has not boiled my brain yet. I got the XXL - if you are between sizes like me, go up. People told me to "go down in size, it will break in", but I could not get the XL to actually pull onto my head. It is fairly comfortable - pushes a tiny bit on forhead (I have a semi oval head - I think) - but not enough to be annoying or cause a headache. Does not restrict my view in any way. An Arai helmet might have been a bit more comfortable, but I opted to take all the hundreds I haved and use them for back, shoulder and elbow padding (yet...just bundled up bunches of singles and then duct tape to hold them together - Not as god as T2, but...). If you are a "fancy" rider, you can get this helmet with loads of funky graphics. I went with flat black. I'm not fancy. ... show more

  • A fantastic value for a great helmet
For the money, this helmet does a great job of keeping me safe and comfortable. By no means is this a cruising helmet, but for general street use and perhaps track use (although not my current cup of tea, it does carry a Snell 2015 rating) this preforms very well. The two vents offer pretty good ventilation, but the mouth vent does most of the work as the top vent requires more of a tuck position to take in any bit of air. The removable cheek pads (with emergency pull-tabs!) paired with the removable lining make this a very nice helmet to clean and install a communications system. I'm currently using a SENA 10S with mine. I initially bought this Medium sized R420, but have since then returned it and opted for a Large. My head size was balancing between the two sizes, but I found the Large to be much more comfortable. I also went ahead and bought a tinted visor that does wonders in the daytime. Pros: Great value, comfortable, fantastic looks, simple visor operation, removable inner pads, Snell 2015 rated. Cons: Louder than average, venting could be better on top Despite the cons, I would still wholeheartedly recommend this helmet to a street rider that takes occasional long trips on a sport / naked bike. ... show more
