I bought these to do two things: (1) protect my arms while using a chainsaw, and (2) to create a barrier from the multitude of thorns that have sprung up in our area. I realize these are not rated puncture-proof, but they help all the same. The thumb hole makes it very easy to slide the length of the guards to my arm pits, as well as insert my hands smoothly into gloves. The guards are wide enough to slide over my heavy down jacket yet the velcro fastener at the top will adjust for going over a shirt alone. Leaves and other sticky items in the forest have not stuck to the fabric. They get a lot of exposure to those and saw dust. Easy to keep clean and ready for use. ... show more

My arm is small. It fits with a bit of sag. But the upper velcro keeps it in place. Certainly does the job and protects arm from sharp objects. I had to mark right and left sleeve for the future.

    • Not sure how well they work - are they for real
So, my first concern was that these would not fit. I'm a big boy, at nearly 400 pounds. When they arrived, I put them on. They took a little but if tugging, but they went on. They are not overly tight, but are 'form-fitting'. They come up about 2 inches past my elbow. The directions CLEARLY say not to test the cut-resistance by grabbing a knife and trying to cut them (yeah, I'll admit, I thought about it). The lawyers made them say that, for sure. But makes you wonder. Do they really work? I've worn them a couple times for clearing some trees on the side of our property. They snag a little on the wild blackberries, but they keep me from getting big scrapes from the thorns. That was my original thought I would use them for, and so far, they seem to work. I have not washed them yet, so I can't speak to how well that works, but I'm going to soon. We'll see how that goes, and report back if they come apart in the wash, etc. Overall, surprised at the level of protection for the money. As they are now, from my limited use, I would buy again. I have used a heavy-duty version of this for chainsaw use and also have some gloves made of almost the exact same material. I ordered these to have an added layer of protection but not expecting it to be heavy enough to protect you from things like chainsaws and such. I was actually rather skeptical, but I will say that after testing them out I was surprised by their performance. Now I would never trust these when using tools like chainsaws because they just wouldn't work and there is nothing more dangerous than a false sense of security. With that said, I think these would work just fine when doing projects with knives and other smaller tools. I first tried to cut through them on a bench and they didn't even snag which was an impressive first experiment. With that test concluded, I put one on and at first tried to lightly cut through it - again no issues. So, with a grimace I actually applied a fair amount of pressure and tried it again on the backside of my arm and still not even a mark. I would never suggest playing around like that because you never know when something can go wrong but I am comfortable enough to say that they will give you a nice layer of protection. I do want to add however that these won't really help with sharp points poking you in the arms and you not feeling it. This was actually one of the things that I was sort of hoping it would do because I am out working on trails in the woods and that sort of thing would have been nice for the thorns and thistles that I encounter. I am not going to hold it against these sleeves because it's not what they claim to do anyway but I did want to point it out.
