Time will tell if they are more resistant to flat than the Armadillos I have been using for the past several years. They ride well and I like the very reflective strip on the sidewall. Schwalbe rates these a 6 out of a 1 to 6 scale for both puncture resistance and durability. After about 4,000 miles of daily commuting on Chicago's city streets (mostly Elston), I finally had my first flat. I think that is the first time I have every gone that long without a flat in my 30 years of biking. Could be coincidence. Probably the tire. It was a nail and I believe that no other tire would have held it at bay either, so I cannot really fault the tire. I do however have an issue and I am not sure if it is worth docking this 1 star or not. After only 4000 miles, there is one section of the tire that is bulging out a bit and the tire is no longer completely round. I feel the bump, bump as it rotates under me and it is obvious when you flip the bike over and give it a spin. The side walls seem to be weakening in once section. I removed the tire and patched my flat and replaced a couple of spokes, gave it a good cleaning and inspection and did not really see anything amiss when it was off my bike, however after I put it back on again and inflated my tire to 45psi, the bulge was back again. It is not the rim. It is obviously the tire. I have never had that happen before with my Armadillos. Admittedly I am not gentle with my tires. I carry a lot of weight (over 300lbs total including the bike) and go up and down curbs and have hit many a pot hole, but I have done the same with the Armadillos. Update: Sure enough, the tire did not last another 17 miles before the sidewall gave out and I had to walk the remaining 3 miles home just now. There is likely nothing wrong with these tires in general, but I was spooked enough to order this tire as a replacement: Panaracer RiBMo PT Tire with Wire Bead ... show more

    • Great Commuter Tire For All Surfaces
I replaced the worn out Schwalbe Fat Frank tires on my Pedego electric bike with these tires. The Fat Franks lasted 3300 miles and I only had two flat tires in all those miles. It sure made me a fan of Schwalbe tires. For a replacement tire I decided I wanted something that would do a little better on an unpaved surface yet still ride great on pavement. I commute 28 miles a day to work and back. Only about 3 or 4 miles of the trip is on dirt surfaces but the Fat Franks slipped a lot when not on a paved surface. These Marathon Plus Tour tires are outstanding in the dirt and ride great on the pavement too. The Marathon Plus is better in another unexpected way too. Because of the foam layer inside the tire for flat protection the tire absorbs bumps in the road very well. I like my tires inflated practically to maximum and that made the Fat Franks very stiff. I could feel every little bump. So besides being practically flat proof the Marathon Plus Tour is a really comfortable ride. I only have 600 miles on these Marathon Plus Tour tires but I'm loving them so far. No flats yet either. i have used several brands of bicycle tires, and tho this is usualy said to be the best, i think recall past 3 with sidewall failures, punchure possibly, but also concerned as the twisted tired in shipment , makes bend marks and tlc to get set in rim correctly. rides nice and ok, but hope i may wear out with a few thousand miles, and not let sun rot as some may have, as had several and up to a dozen bikes at a time.. ... show more

I spent some time researching tires before I bought these. Countless reviews by avid bicyclists and shops said these are some of the best tires on the market. After a few months of using them, I concur. They are very smooth riding and provide solid feel and control. The tread pattern is not only good looking but very functional for an on-road/dirt trail tire. They also have a very thick puncture resistant layer under the tread, one of the thickest on the market. We started using Schwalbe tires in 2004, when rode our tandem bicycle 3300 miles across 7 states. We did not start out with them but once we discovered them there was no way we would ever change.We have never had a flat since we purchased our first set. This purchase was our fifth set. We have a set on a single mountain bike, a set on our tandem, a set for our granddaughter, a spare which has not been used yet and this newest purchase is a different style. Been using these tires for about five years now. They are simply the best; I like the size of the tire, between ugly mountain bike and pencil thin racer wannabe. They are stable and fast on a variety of normal conditions. And yes, likely you'll wear those treads out before a puncture happens. Edit, week later: I'd ordered two, which arrived on separate days, and reviewed after the first was received. The second one had a defect (wavy profile at one area), which is the first time for me (I've gone through six of these!). I did the warranty thing through the Schwalbe website and got a new tire real snappy without any back and forth. I'm amazed :-> ... show more
