  • Awesome Gamer Monitor At An Even Greater Price Point
Condition: Out of the box, I did light a candle and make a wish that this monitor did not have any dead pixels or screen bleed around the edges. I was lucky...none, the gods were listening. Nice thin panel with a very small edge. Did not use the stand, as I bought a monitor adjustable arm for 20 bucks on a lightening deal. Set. Display: First boot, using the ‘Standard’ picture settings, not bad, but it is bright, or should I say, full of contrast. Gaming looked awesome, but reading a web page, gray text was a little washed-out, my eyes hurt from the bright white pages, however color was good. That is what you are dealing with using the standard settings. Fire up the calibration, taking many attempts, I finally got the almost perfect color/contrast balance. Calibration: You will need to calibrate this monitor if you care about your eyes, other than gaming, either manually, or I used Displaycal software and a Spyder5 express calibrator. The software always wants you to get all the RGB colors and white point to a set point using your monitor’s color controls before calibration begins. I found on this monitor that getting the white point to where it wanted resulted in a very bright/washed out reading text, slightly better than out of the box settings. I adjusted and left the white point below standard start point, then calibrated, and got a near perfect reading calibration, with colors that are beautiful and accurate. It is still a bright monitor, and in my book that is a good thing. Most gaming monitors (AOC monitors) are washed out, dull. You won’t have that here. Graphic/Cad designers, I would say this monitor is not for you. I would stay with the 2k/144hz monitors where DPI really kicks in, coupled with the fact I had to wrestle with the calibration on this monitor, and it is still not perfect, as far as heavy graphic work standards. For gamers, the blacks are some of the most brilliant black I have seen yet on a monitor, like being lost in the void, and the colors pop...perfect gamer monitor. Gaming: I haven’t done a lot yet, but OMG. You can just tell the smoothness and colors are excellent. I have an i5-9600k cpu, nvidia 1660 super OC gpu, and to begin I turned on Free-sync on the monitor, along with turning on ‘Overdrive,” and G-Sync settings on the computer’s driver software, and all was good to go. 165 htz registered baby! If you are buying this, and you probably are, for nothing but gaming...don’t even hesitate, get it. I will test with more games, and update if I find any issues. A+ Minor ‘issues’: Things that bug, the power and monitor ports are situated right below the bottom of the monitor. That means if you are big into cable management, that is an issue. You will always see the cords sticking out from the bottom, or at least the top of the plugs. Conclusion: Gamers, get this monitor now. Graphic/CAD workers, hard call, will take a LOT of calibrating and not sure if you can get ‘the best’ end result with such a bright/contrast-filled monitor for excellent, detailed graphics and color work. ... show more

  • The review above all reviews!
So I was a little apprehensive to buy this brand. I've been an Asus guy forever ... but, it was on sale and it had a $10.00 off coupon to go with it at checkout, bringing the price down to $149.95. So why not, right? I've been playing on a 60hz Asus for as long as I can remember. Now that I have a new computer build coming (i9 9900k with an RTX 2070), I figured I'd upgrade to a newer 144+hz monitor with G-Sync/Freesync. I'm not ready for 1440p yet, so this 1080p with 165hz at this price seemed to be a no-brainer. However, I am a 100% skeptic and to be honest, didn't have high hopes for this purchase. My current build is an i7 2700k with a GTX 1050 ti and is what will be used for this review until I get my new system built (which I know will use this monitor to its' full potential). Let me just start by saying, "WOW!" There's only one word to describe it ... just ... WOW! First, the packaging was stellar. No issues there. This thing could be thrown off of a building and the monitor would take it like a champ. It would simply brush it off and walk off like a boss. I then opened the box and learned that the base/stand is metal (that is built rather well) and also came with a Display Port Cable AND a pretty darn nice phillips-head screwdriver to put the stand/monitor together! Like ... whaaat? Putting it together was a breeze and I was rather impressed with the look. But I was still anxious about what this monitor would look like and how it would "feel" once turned on. I got everything hooked up, took a deep breathe and said, "well, at least it looks good," and turned the PC and monitor on. Two words ... "HOLY MOTHER OF ALL THINGS COLOR! THIS IS BEAUTIFUL!" Okay, that was more like 9 words, but that was my first reaction to seeing my PC Desktop Background for the first time on this badboy. My Asus was hooked up as my second monitor and it looked like complete TRASH next to the eye nectar I as receiving from this Sceptre monitor. I quickly ran out and got my wife and said, "honey, you have to see this!" As if she would care for this kind of eye-candy ... but I had to show SOMEBODY!!!! She came in and said, "oh wow, that's a huge difference." Let me just say, the blacks were black, the colors were vibrant (I honestly thought someone made a mistake and fabricated this monitor as an IPS panel instead of a TN panel) and no dead pixels anywhere. No backlighting showing through ... nothing. BUT ... the real test was yet to come ... and my anxiety was starting to peek. Could this monitor deliver in the gaming department? Or is it like the beautiful girl with no personality? I loaded the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and got a few of my crew together to put this bad-boy to the test. Before I did so, I made sure to have freesync on (which enables G-Sync ... YES, G-SYNC) in the monitor settings and checked to see if my video card settings were showing G-sync enables ... which it was. The match started loading and I was sitting there like a kid on Christmas day waiting to open that first present. Then it happened ... the match started. I noticed my FPS in the top left corner hitting 110-130 FPS (that's a first) and it was as smooth as Marvin Gaye and Barry White singing at a night club together MELTING the ladies. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This monitor delivered in every way possible. I can't imagine how good this thing will work when I complete my new build. Pros: Everything. I cannot stress this enough ... this monitor WILL DO G-SYNC if you have a 10 or 20 series GPU. I understand that it isn't on the "NVIDIA LIST" of monitors, but I can assure you, G-SYNC is recognized and works with this monitor. Anyone that says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. Cons: The speakers are 100% complete trash. If you're looking for a monitor with quality speakers, this one isn't for you. I play with Sennheiser headset and an Astro mixamp ... so i could care less about the speakers. If you're hesitant to buy this monitor like I was, don't be. This bad boy will do everything it says it will and then some. It looks AMAZING for a TN monitor! So stop reading about it and buy it already! What are you waiting for, Christmas? PFFFT ... BUY IT! You'll thank me later. TL;DR ... This monitor is amazing ... from the build quality to the colors and performance ... it's amazing. Stop reading about it and just pull the trigger. You will not regret buying this monitor. ... show more

  • Make sure that you have a high quality HDMI cable that handles more than 60 mhz signal.
Came three days before the supposed arrival day, that was an awesome delivery services. Quality is great. came with a small screwdriver ( how cool is that! ) to screw the base. Out of the box it a great monitor that handles 165mhz and such a good price, way cheaper than other compared monitors Instructions were simple to follow and it detected as a 165mhz monitor without any change in the advance settings. Im using a gaming laptop Cyberpower Tracer III extreme that has an GEForce 1060 and color and quality are top notch on the monitor. Only probles was that the laptop did not had any DP port which I had to use my regular HDMI cable. on testing PCMark was giving excellent performance, but all of the sudden the image went away for a second or two and it came back again and repeated the same pattern until the test were done. I tested with Minecraft and also gave me the black screen for a second again and detected the image again. I tried with Warframe and it did not loose the signal like the other game, I went to the settings and changed to 165mhz and while playing, it game me again the lost signal and detected again. I changed to 120mhz in game settings and it did not lost the signal any moment, so maybe the HDMI cable bottleneck is only 60MHZ since its an old cable. I ordered a HMDI to DP port cable of high quality in hopes that it will resolve the problem, but for the moment I have to lower the MHZ in games to 60 - 120 until I receive the new cable and do some further testing, but overall Im very pleased with the monitor. Ill update once I receive and try the new cable if it still loosing the signal. UPDATE: I was right. The bottleneck was the HDMI cable, since my laptop do not have a dp port I ordered a high quality HDMI cable , 4K up to 200 hz, As soon I plugged that cable, I changed all setting back to normal and Im gladly reporting that everything is running smoothly. It detected as a 165hz monitor and I played for several hours and I did not get any lost signal at all. I reversed all setting to max on my game WARFRAME and Im running at 165HZ. Im very pleased with the monitor and cable that I upgraded it. ... show more

  • Pretty good for it's value.
I picked this up for about $180 and have been using it for about a month now and I haven't encountered any issues. As advertised, it runs at 165Hz via display port cable and I was able to overclock it a bit to 172Hz using NIVIDA Control Panel without any skipped frames. I've also seen many people complain about having their monitor arrive with dead pixels and I would like to point out that it's literally a lottery type system in a sense and there's always a chance with any monitor you purchase that it could arrive with dead pixels. It seems as if I had won the dead pixel lottery as mine has no dead pixels at all while testing it on deadpixelbuddy. Viewing angles aren't the best but you can't expect good viewing angles from a TN panel. This isn't really an issue anyways because you're going to be sitting straight in front of the monitor if this is your main monitor. The only thing I suggest is turning down your gamma within the color settings of the monitor as for me, the colors were a little too bright for my liking, but then again it's preference. I'd also like to point out that the color accuracy is pretty decent as well for a TN panel. I can't say anything about the reliability of this monitor as to whether this will last you a long time but I'll be sure to make updates if anything happens to it. The only terrible thing about this monitor are the speakers, they sound really low and dried out. If they're going to make the speakers sound this bad, they shouldn't have included it with the monitor at all in my opinion but I guess it's a little nice addition. So should you get this monitor? Sure, it's a bang for the buck deal if you're looking for a cheap gaming monitor with a high refresh rate and nice color accuracy. However, I recommend wearing headphones as it's fair to say that the speakers are terrible. ... show more

  • A workhorse, 7 years later.
I bought this in February of 2019. The damn thing is still going strong. It still has the same low response time. While it's only a 1080 monitor, if you want a good and cheap 1ms response monitor, this isn't a bad choice. I forgot what I paid for it, but it's going for around $100 in May of 2026.. Honestly, I may get two others when I do some stuff with my try and build out a sim cockpit. ... show more

  • Quality/Price over everything
I've had this monitor for over 6 years and it has been an amazing investment. No dead pixels and performs exactly how it did when i got it. 6 years ago, this was $180, now its $100? What a great deal for a 1080p 27" monitor! Only thing that holds it back is the poor speakers it has, but if you have external speakers this won't be a problem. ... show more

  • The perfect side monitor
I purchased this monitor in July of 2020 for $175 and it is still going strong, this monitor has outlived 3 main monitors, has had no problems except when the plug isn't fully connected properly the screen will go green but well that is a non problem to say the least. Does it have the best visual clarity, no I wouldn't use this as a main monitor, the stand also isn't very good, wobbles the monitor pretty easy. Although all in all I would say this is one of the best products I've purchased just period on amazon just because of how long its lasted, like my main monitor that is retailed currently at $400 (bought at $260) (LG Ultra Gear 27 inch) just started developing racing stripes a month ago. ... show more

  • Best 165hz Gaming Monitor for The Price Best 165hz Gaming Monitor for The Price
9 months into using this screen for both work and gaming, I would say that it's now time to fully unwrap it :D When I first unboxed this monitor, I was a bit disappointed to see one dead pixel (see annotation in the second screenshot), but I decided to stick with it and trust that it would not become severe as time goes by. Confident to say that the photo taken in this review was taken today with my phone (9 months later) and the screen performs as new (no alarming issues so far). Needless to say, at some point, the screen turns itself off even when actively being used (not sure whether it's a software issue with the screen's power saving timers or whatnots) but it only occurs randomly and once in like a month or so (haven't had this issue for two to three months now). Overall, it's a great purchase for gaming enthusiasts wanting true 165hz refresh rates with AMD free sync. I'm considering pairing it with another 200hz curved screen from the same manufacturer for my workflow since I loved the quality and affordability of this screen. If you need a 1920 X 1080 gaming monitor with true 165hz refresh rate, consider this as a genuine selection in your list of preferences. ... show more
