I am doing my own self-taught piano lessons (took lessons for a decade as a kid and then lost a lot of skill over the past 15 years). I bought this so that I wouldn't have to think about how to do my scale practice. I am going through all the major scales first (at 80 bpm on the metronome), and then moving on to minor scales after that, which means I have to skip around the book since they list all the major and minor scales together. I'm not sure if there's any reason to do minor and major chords separate or together, so I'm just doing it in the order I did as a kid. I mostly like having this book so that I don't have to put more mental effort into setting up my lessons. ... show more

I gave it a 4 because the Major minor scales are mixed together on same page. I was hoping the Major Scales would be on their own separate page. Easier for my brain go process.......for a beginner. Another book I purchased from SCHIRMER'S "preparatory exercises". has the scales in the appendix group to my liking. BOTH good books, my brain likes the later. ... show more
