I started with their 14x6.5 snare, studied the box it came in carefully, and ended up with this kit, adding 14” and 10” toms. I think I got a great deal. The hoops are well-made, chrome plated zinc (magnets don’t stick). Not the “chrome steel” in the graphic, but no die-cast hoop is. These are about as good as any, and hard to find hoops this good at this price. The shells may be hickory? They look walnutish. They could be pine or whatever, stained walnut color in and out. Doesn’t matter, they play true…meaning there’s balance between high mid and low frequencies. In comparison, mahogany will be darker, maple will be bassier, and birch will be brighter with carved out mids. Walnut and beech are sorta this sound as well. The sustain is attenuated by the hoops, which also aren’t as bright as flanged steel. Still, the formula gives an even sound to work with. I found pinstripes work great on these drums, kick included. The stock kick batter can be used as reso, it has a sound ring internal, though I had a black PS3 with a hole to use instead. The kick had the most blemishes in the finish but nothing awful. The lugs, mounts etc are all fine. The snare cracks hard. Everything goes well together. You get kick legs and floor tom legs (the 14” tom doesn’t use legs) and you’ll need to provide everything else hardware wise. The mounts are all 10.5mm rods. I suggest a Gibraltar road series rack but you can use stands. The thick polyester(?) gloss finish is lovely although a very tiny bit evenly hazy. I would definitely get the natural wood grain over the dark red color. It’s a drum set. To some extent they are all the same, and heads and tuning matter more (playing matters most). But there are differences and this is a good one, for me at least, for the price. It’s plywood and should last 100 years. If anyone still plays drums by then. ... show more
