    • Solid, easy to assemble

This is a solid bookcase and is easy to assemble if you follow the instructions (i.e. don’t set it upright until the backing is all on and attached properly). The doors adjust to be level. It looks like an expensive piece of furniture once assembled. It took me about 2 hours by myself.

    • Collapsed under its own weight! Danger!

This thing literally collapsed under its own weight. Arrived with cosmetic damage - scratched up. Holes did not align well for some parts for assembly. On screwing the fasteners (by hand!), one snapped. The particle board easily shredded just assembling with the fasteners provided. It's extremely porous and lightweight. They have you flip it over during assembly (carefully, used two people), but first put the decorative molding on the top and bottom - this leaves a small gap in the middle between furniture and floor. After sitting for a couple minutes, it crumbled and is now garbage. Now I have to pay to have a waste company pick it up. Terrific waste of money. Furthermore, some predrilled holes were missing completely ("align with the holes" well, there weren't any holes. Triple checked it was correct.) However, I didn't even get that far before it destroyed itself under its own weight. Some parts also feature dowels to connect the boards, but the holes for the dowells were drilled too big and very loose. I would absolutely feel uncomfortable putting anything on this and I don't even have kids. Update: Sauder customer service was not helpful and told me to take it up with Amazon. ... show more

I couldn’t be happier with this Sauder bookcase! It looks fantastic in our living room—sleek, modern, and just the right size for both books and decorative pieces. Assembly was straightforward thanks to the clear instructions, and all the pieces were well-labeled and well-packaged. Once assembled, it felt sturdy and solid—not wobbly or cheap like some other flat-pack furniture I’ve bought in the past. The woodgrain finish is beautiful and elevates the whole space. I have purchased several Sauder products and have found them to be made well but this one does not have the quality that the other pieces I own. It lacks the solid sturdiness that the others I have plus the doors are so thin that they feel like they will crack. I’m really surprised at how poorly this particular style was made. It does the name brand injustice. I can’t say that the price was good simply because the product was not what I expected compared to the others I own. The size was correct and fit the space nicely. The color was perfect. Instructions were clear no problems there. I was hoping once I got it put together it would be sturdier but it’s just too thin. Disappointed. ... show more
