One of the things I found really aesthetically pleasing when looking at the pictures was something that didn't work for me - the little door on the keyboard and mouse tray. The hinges are in the way. Also, you can't pull the keyboard and mouse out very far. So, I took it off. It looks great without it too. Another negative is the assembly. The instructions are really good. It takes hours, though. We worked on it together, didn't have any snags, and it took us 4 hours. Every little piece has to be screwed in or popped into place. Every little piece is separate, and there are a lot of pieces. We carefully used a drill for some screws, but mostly used a screwdriver. Be careful as to what piece goes on which side. That part could be easy to mix up. I love the desk, though, especially for the price. It's not solid wood. It is particle board, but it's still very nice. The drawers slide smoothly. It has a really nice look to it. If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would have for the assembly time, but I'd rather give it 5 than 4. It doesn't deserve a 4. Overall, I'm very happy with it. ... show more

In my experience, this desk is typical of Sauder great value well designed products in the buyer assembly category. The instructions, which I consulted constantly during assembly, are full of diagrams and pointers to ensure you assemble the right parts in the right orientations in the right order. Part label stickers come off easily without the annoying need for glue remover. Small parts are organized in a labeled compartmented bag. Buyers should understand this desk will take a while to assemble. There are a lot of parts. Go slowly and carefully and you will be very happy with the results. I am very experienced with furniture assembly and this desk took me over 4 hours to complete including unpacking. The pull out drawer with fold down end is ideal for a keyboard and has plenty of room for storage. I keep my laptop, keyboard, mouse. & pad, disc and thumb drives, etc in it when not using them. The lower drawer includes the rods and edges for hanging files, which is how I use it. The upper two drawers have ample space - I keep my office supplies in them. I would call this a medium size desk, which has turned out to be ideal for my home office needs. ... show more

OK here is the true and false. It is very sturdy - TRUE. it weighs over 140 pounds and is very solid. It comes in a lot of pieces and takes a while to assemble - TRUE. It took me about 5 hours over two days. The 21 step assembly is easy to follow and just read it carefully and you'll be fine. The holes don't line-up and you have to drill some yourself - FALSE. I got my drill ready and never used it. All pre-drilled holes lined up with the parts in every case. The parts are not all labelled - TRUE. However, be aware that the parts that are labelled have two different ways of labelling - some have white stickers and some are labelled on the unfinished edges so make sure you check the piece carefully and all the major pieces are in fact labelled. Some of the smaller pieces are indeed unlabeled but the diagrams make identification pretty easy. It is solid wood - FALSE. Most people think of "solid wood" as true finished wood, and this unit is primarily a very heavy wood composite with laminates - very heavy and not particle board. Be aware the top is laminated and not what most would consider "solid wood". The drawers are real wood. There are pieces missing - TRUE (one fastener), but in my case at least it was only a screw for the drawer-handle (there are 5 handles). Since you install these last, it can be frustrating, and only one was missing. Lucky that I had one in my garage. All-in-all I definitely would buy this thing again. it came out beautiful. This desk is just gorgeous. Yes it has lots of pieces, and yes it takes a lot of time to put together. But it is so worth the effort. We have looked and looked for used and new desks and just could not find anything that caught our eyes. Came across this one and it grabbed us right away. It is made very well, we are so pleased with it. My husband followed the instructions putting it together and was impressed that there were even extra parts, instead of not enough. The pieces are fairly imprecisely cut. A lot of parts aren't exactly rectangular, holes aren't in exactly the right places, gaps appear in certain places as you put it together, etc. Most glaringly, the back panels for my desk are not rectangular, and the edges clearly do not line up once they were nailed to the desk. Expect to do a lot of finagling and some trial and error with how you angle and screw pieces together to be able to actually finish the job. Assuming you finally put it all together to your liking, the desk is about as sturdy and usable as you'd expect. It certainly isn't obvious from the final product that the assembly was so imprecise, and unless you're really running your finger across all the edges and seams you'd think it's perfect. The imprecision of the parts rears it's ugly head with the drawers, though. Even after making some final adjustments to how I attached the drawer fronts, they still rub against each other and against the cabinet walls. The middle drawer makes a sharp noise every time I close it because the top of its face rubs against the bottom of the topmost drawer. My bottom drawer doesn't make any such noise, but it is noticeably harder to open and close because its face is a tad too big and rubs against the cabinet. Annoying, but still usable. If you want a serviceable and large desk, this is pretty good value. Just be prepared, as the minor imperfections in all the pieces really add up and can cause a headache. ... show more
