  • Would have gotten 4 stars if it had arrived without some cosmetic damage and apparently been repacked in transit.
Pattern Name: Credenza
First off, if you are not handy and you don't have a friend or family member who is and has the time and patience to put this together, I STRONGLY recommend getting pro assistance. One of my friends did it solo, so a two-person team isn't a necessity but it took him quite a while to do it. Also, I recommend having whoever assembles this cut out the back on the left-hand side to minimize the chances of overheating your computer if you have an actual tower/CPU that you're planning on putting there. (The back is practically cardboard and should cut easily, so this should be probably be backed up to a wall because the front is *much* prettier than the back. Also, don't store anything that's not heat-resistant on the shelf in the left-side cabinet because it WILL be hotter than the right side drawers by a noticeable margin.) Do NOT attempt to get this shipped through the post office and check your shipping method's weight limits. I didn't check the weight and should have (it's roughly 160 pounds, and post office weight limits are normally 70-80 pounds. They thankfully took pity on me and accepted delivery, but they would have been within their rights to reject on "overweight package" grounds.) Mine came with a "we had to repack this during transit and all the pieces might not be there, assemble at your own risk because they WILL NOT take assembled furniture back" notice and I was nervous that getting it put together was going to fail because of that. It also came with some minor cosmetic damage, thankfully in relatively tough-to-see places (basically the top layer of veneer/coloring is scratched off along the back edge and there's a few other small defects.) The color is essentially what I was looking for, and the shelving/storage info is accurate. (I specifically wanted a keyboard tray and actual *drawers* not open storage, and this has both of those. I don't have my large drawer set up as a hanging file drawer, so I don't know how finicky installing the hardware for that is, but there *are* predrilled setup holes for it so it should be doable.) Be aware that apparently the left-side door hinges are pretty fragile, because I left the door open for ventilation, accidentally walked into it, and seriously thought I was going to have to at least replace the hinges when the door came off completely. (The friend who did the original assembly was able to reattach them without a significant issue and no new hardware was required, but again, that might not be the case for someone else.) Overall a decent choice aesthetically and functionally for my home use needs, but you may be rolling the dice on what shape yours arrives in based on my experience. ETA: As of sometime during the last few weeks (added on October 17, 2017), the left-hand wall is projecting out beyond the desktop a bit. The desk is definitely still usable and the defect isn't incredibly obvious, but it's starting to look like I might need a pro to do a little adjustment work on it. ... show more

  • Very heavy package
Pattern Name: Credenza
The desk arrived early and there was no damage, however expect the package to be very heavy approx. 153 lbs. The instructions were very thorough, there is QR code and URL for a video in the instructions if you need it. I unpacked the box and laid all the pieces out where I could easily locate them, from start to finish, it took me 2.5 hours by myself with no power tools and I'm a woman over 50. I have seen complaints about the handle, yes they are plastic if you don't like them you can always purchase some hardware handles you like. I have to say I didn't have a single problem, all the holes aligned with the pieces it was great. I almost didn't purchase this because everyone said how difficult it was to put together, it was easy just a lot of pieces. I'm going to buy the hutch now since I was able to do the desk by myself. Very happy with this purchase ;). ... show more

  • Good purchase for the money.
Pattern Name: Credenza
Once I realized I'd be working from home indefinitely, I started looking for a desk and hutch that fit the space I had and met my needs. I finally settled on this on (and the hutch that goes with it). The hutch arrived first. The instructions were surprisingly good - so kudos to the Sauder Technical Documentation team. I wouldn't say it was EASY, but with the clear instructions and labeled parts it was much, much better than some assemblies I've experienced. The desk assembly experience wasn't as good as the hutch, though. The instructions were still very good, though I found a couple small steps that were left out (I'm a technical editor, so I notice this stuff). Not all the parts were labeled as I expected them to be. In general, it was worth the effort. This desk is heavy (and solid) so if you are adding the hutch on top, make sure you have two (strong) people to get the hutch on top of the desk and positioned correctly (after you have the desk in place). That said, it is very solid and I believe it will last longer than I need it to. I'm very happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Great desk
Pattern Name: Credenza
This desk is great for doing everyday work, gaming, doing office work, and more. The desk is quite large and feels very sturdy. One downside of it is the build time. With two people working on it, it took us around 4.5hrs. One thing I would like to note is that it is not real wood. I knew this when I bought it, but it seems that many people don't. THIS IS NOT A BAD THING. This is made of a material that has the top made of real wood, but the inside has wooden fillings. This makes it so that you are getting the wood on the parts that you will use, and it makes the whole thing considerably cheaper and lighter. A desk at this size made purely of wood would cost $1000+. Also, this would be almost impossible to assemble if it was made of wood, for not even a elephant could lift a 60 inch long slab of wood. All in all, it is a great desk. ... show more

  • Beautiful and Exactly what I needed
Pattern Name: Credenza
I am very familiar with this type of assemble yourself furniture, so the materials and number of parts was no surprise to me. The instructions were very well done and it didn't take nearly as long as it seems like it would. The instructions were optimistic about the time though, as it took about twice as long as they indicated, but it was still relatively quick. My daughter and I assembled it and we are pretty careful and meticulous. The credenza is absolutely lovely and all drawers glide well and there are enough cord management holes that is is easy to hide the cord mess. However, just as a note, the hole in the desk is not quite big enough to allow a DVI-D connector to pass through with the grommet in place. I had to remove the plastic grommet in order to get that to pass through the hole in the desk. I will put it back in once I no longer need to use a DVI-D video cable. The VGA, and HDMI cables pass through fine. I would definitely purchase again and I am so happy with this. ... show more
