For laminate wood furniture, this piece is better than average! The assembly was more complicated than any ikea piece I’ve put together, but the directions are very thorough and clear. It seems to be well-constructed, sturdy, and the drawer glides are of superior quality. It was packaged well and arrived without any damage. The people in charge of user experience design for this company absolutely delighted me! I really appreciated how easy it was to remove the part-labeling stickers (quick and no residue). Also, the instruction booklet had some silly quips that made me laugh out loud along the way! Loved it. Looking forward to assembling 2 more pieces from this office set. Thanks Sauder! ... show more

I got a little scared to order when I heard some of the negative reviews, like “it collapsed into itself,“ but I’m glad I let common sense take over. Obviously theirs wasn’t assembled properly. (*Hint* Make sure the Cam Screws are connecting properly with the Hidden Cam. Also, might want to put a dab of wood glue on the ends of the wood dowels to make them extra secure). It takes a bit of time, like you’d expect, but directions are easy to follow. No problems with packing or shipping, so no damages whatsoever. It looks nice, works for my needs, nice and solid, so no worries... order away! ... show more

Keeping in mind this is a prefab, DIY kit. Compared to similar products it is exceptionally sturdy and of great quality. We had one piece that was defective (missed one of the drill stations at the factory). I called the Sauder # in the manual and they sent me a replacement piece, I had it in less than a week. This bookshelf/file cabinet is very solid after assembling; I did use wood glue when applicable in addition to provided hardware. Much higher quality than other DIY furniture I’ve put together. Wood was in very good shape, pilot holes were properly drilled and instructions were in (actual) english and well written. The size is perfect for the a narrow space I had available. Standard file folders fit sideways (perpendicular to drawer front), legal fit lengthways, which is nice flexibility for a file cabinet of this size. Drawers are solid, slide well and close completely. I did cut off the bottom of the legs prior to assembling. I thought it would help stability and I didn’t think they would add anything to my situation. They cut perfectly, solid wood for that piece. I would rather not have one more place for dust to collect, and am happy I made this change. I wasn’t sure what I would get after reading other reviews, but this is exactly what I was looking for. ... show more

The bookcase took 4 hours to assemble.The directions could have been better written and illustrated. Although it looks great, overall the quality is poor. 1) Back is made of cardboard. 2)Bottom of file drawers is very lightweight and won't be able to hold heavy files. 3) The brackets for the hanging files are made of plastic and one broke during assembly. 4) The pressed wood splintered in a couple places when we put screws in. Had I been able to see and feel the bookcase, I would not have purchased it. I don't recommend this unless all you are concerned about is appearance and not functionality. ... show more

Ok first I would like to mention that the drawers are VERY deep and sturdy enough to hold quite a bit of weight, which is great for me as an artist! I have put lots of binders and sketchbooks in them and still have plenty of space for hanging files in the top drawer. The shelves perfectly fit my D&D books snuggly and they are tall enough that I feel comfortable burning my incense and short candles on them. It says in the instructions not to put anything on the top shelf but it's certainly sturdy enough too provided it's nothing too heavy. It looks great next to my desk! Definitely a good purchase even if it was a bit over my budget! ... show more

It’s a cute piece but the quality is so bad. It took forever to assemble (and I’m very handy and great at reading instructions) but so many of the parts broke while putting it together. It’s a cute piece once it’s done, but it’s wobbly, because a lot of the pieces just don’t fit right. I wish I bought something else. ... show more
