I liked how Sauder packaged the hardware. As a senior female, it took me six+ hours to complete, also had to wait for my son to stop by and help me lift and move completed desk. Wish the Edge Water collection offered a hutch to match as I replaced this desk for one that had a hutch (which I kept and will be painting closely to match the Edge Water finish). All the reviews are true. The drawers are a complete mess. In reality the desk took approximately three hours for one person to put together, but those stinking drawers added another two. We didn’t need to re-drill anything. The runners for the drawers were incorrect. I did not put this desk together at all - my husband did. And when it was all said and done the top drawer was so crooked and the bottom one was wobbled, and it took a good two hours and he did not re-drill. He moved the runners around. Then just sliding the runners in to see that they were the problem. Now that it’s all done, I love the desk, but it definitely scratches easier than I would like for the price that I paid. I understand that $200 is not a lot of money to some people, but for a family $200 is a lot to spend. I would recommend this desk, but just be forewarned of the runners. The photo is what it looked like before it was rigged up by my British Hunk of Love husband. Overall, pretty sturdy. It’s actually much sturdier than I would expect in this day and age of low-quality, mass production. There is an awful odor for us, like some of the other reviewers have stated. The corners are pretty sharp. I smacked into on day 2 & I bruised badly. Not the manufacturer of the desk’s fault. Manufacturer of the human’s fault. If you are clumsy like I am, or have littles running around, get some corner protection on it. The backs are thin can be pulled/pushed out if desired. I am much too unorganized for that nonsense so I will keep them in and hope it helps me look like I have my life together. The drawers are really quite narrow. I don’t think I was expecting them to be as narrow as they are. I mean, I will survive just fine, but traditional hanging folders aren’t going to do the trick. I’ll get over it, since my last desk had zero storage, but if I update my desk again, I will likely give this to my husband & get one with bigger drawers. The drawers were not a deal breaker for me. I wanted a desk with a keyboard tray and for it to have some sort of storage. In other words, little more grown up looking and not looking like it should be in a dorm. My monitor is 27 inches and I have a cricut maker. I think that it will be just fine to have both on the desk with some space to spare. Pullout keyboard tray is LIFE. I don’t think it’s super sturdy but compared to a desk I got a the “large” lots, I would guess it’s a bit more sturdy than what I have been working with for the last year. There is a wire cut out for the keyboard. I’m blown away that some people don’t have wireless keyboards and mice. I have an AIO desktop and a wireless life, so this doesn’t really matter to me, but I guess it’s still a nice feature to have. AMPLE leg room. I am a wheelchair user and although my wheelchair is on the smaller side without bells and whistles, I do think that most other wheelchairs would fit just find. Large office chairs would fit too. I think gaming chairs would fit, not 100% if a footrest on a game chair would fit, but you know I have to find out now. Overall, for what I paid for this desk, I can’t believe how nice it is. I was very hesitant to buy it Bc I thought it was going to be junk, but it really isn’t. I do wish the drawers were a pinch wider and that their assembly didn’t ruin my Saturday night, but it’s not going to ruin it for me. It does scratch way too easily. Wonky drawers did not help that situation. It’s very sturdy. Not smelly. Lots of legroom. The keyboard tray makes me feel like a real adult. I would have given five stars had the drawers been easier to put together and not resulted in 20 knicks and a threaten of divorce (jk). ... show more

It took me a good 1,5 hour to assemble by myself. The instructions are very clear. I didn’t run into any of the problems some of the negative reviews mentioned however there are adjustments that can be done with drawers so they fit perfectly, and if they aren’t perfectly installed in the matching railing they will look crooked. Just set up a home office and this desk is perfect. It has lots of storage, a place for you to store your keyboard and mouse and plenty of desk top for multiple screens. It took quite some time to put it together but instructions were good.

    • Great desk, but back is not finished
I purchsed this desk in the chalked chesnut 3 years ago. It is very heavy and sturdy and shows minimal signs of wear w almost daily use. There is some texture to the finish, and the finish is pretty realistic in appearance. Other than the drop keyboard drawer falling once (hammered and glued it back in place) and the finish rubbing off that same drawer handle, this has been a great desk. The drawers and cabinet are very spacious and I've not experienced any problems w the drawers opening or closing. A friend put it together and encountered no problems although it did take a few hours for solo assembly. My only issue w this desk is that is unfinished on the back, and would not be attractive if you are not going to place it up against a wall. The back of the desk, behind the cabinet and drawers, is nothing but heavy cardboard-like material w tacks. For the price, I was a little disappointed by that feature. All in all a very good purchase that I would recommend as long as you are planning to place it against a wall. ... show more

Got this desk for my daughter for writing and drawing as an upgrade in size from her kids desk. Took my husband and me about 2 hours to put together. Directions were pretty good. A few things were off in the pictures but we figured it out. There is a chip on the main desk piece as my picture shows, but too much hassle to return over. Barely noticeable since it is "rustic" looking to begin with. The drawers were a little wonky, but my husband messed with it a little and made them slide in straighter so it doesn't rub. We had two screws left over in the end. A small black one and a small black large head one Over all pretty good deal. We did get the matching bookcase with it. ... show more

Lower right drawer front was damaged during shipping. I called Sauder directly and they are sending a replacement drawer front free of charge. Excellent customer service! Amazon also gave me a 25% refund due to the damage during shipping. Overall, I was very pleased with the customer service from both Amazon and Sauder! The desk was a bit trickier to assemble, but still not very difficult. Assembly took about 4 hours by myself. I purchased several pieces of the Sauder furniture and am overall very pleased with the quality and ease of assembly. I will definitely consider this brand for any future needs! ... show more
