Well...those handmade pieces are expensive and hard to find. When I saw this shelf I thought it LOOKED sturdy and real so I decided to order it. It did not disappoint! I LOVE the color and you really can't tell it came in a box and that we assembled it ourselves in about an hour! I liked it so much that I ordered the Sauder desk that matches it. The assembly was easy to follow and I was worried at times that things wouldnt line up or go together well or that pieces would be missing (always the worry with these DIY furniture kits) but none of that was true and everything worked out! If you are looking for good looks without the price. This is it. I was looking for inexpensive bookshelves for my husband's man cave. I selected these based on price and looks. When they arrived (I ordered 6) a couple of the boxes where a little banged up, but due the the great packaging (which takes time to open) the items inside where not damaged. When I first started putting them together I was expecting cheap looking shelves, I was surprised when I was done that they looked as great in person as they had online. I also had bought a stand for my TV from the same company (Didn't know that when I bought these shelves) and I would buy more furniture from them. They take inexpensive furniture and make it look good. When I say they make it look good, My husband had a couple of other more expensive bookcases in his room and you almost can't tell there is a difference (the color gives away the differences as they don't quite match). And my husband is thrilled with how they turned out because he didn't want any "Cheap garbage" (His words) in his room. ... show more

Well packaged from damage from the outside. Came with side molding that was split, but easily fixed with wood glue and clamps. Remaining assembly went smoothly and resulting bookcase is sturdy with good looking laminate.

Okay, these are a bit darker than they look in the picture, but they still look great. First the negatives... It was missing a cam (11 out of 12), but I reached out directly to Sauder (just look up their site) and they sent the replacement pretty fast. If you need to slide a piece together it might not fit. If it doesn't, slide it in from the other end (you'll understand if you buy this) and it'll work. It was a little difficult linking up the two bottom shelves, but I've never done this before, so I simply took my time and played with one shelf and then the other until I got it right. Why five stars with all of that? Because none of that was a big deal - just a minor inconvenience and I'm not a big baby. It looks FANTASTIC in my living room. If someone has trouble with the shipping, take it up with the shipper, and not the seller. If you mail a package and something happens along the way, do you blame yourself? No, you blame the post office. Be a grown up and hold the right people responsible (I had no trouble with the shipping, but some of the complaints I see on Amazon are idiotic). My entire bookshelf is filled with nothing but hardcover books. They look fantastic on this bookcase. I put heavy books on the bottom shelf for support, filled in all of the other shelves, and then removed the bottom books, and then set up the bottom shelf the way I wanted. Good, sturdy piece. Easy to put together as long as a tiny bit of patience and very mild percussive assistance is available. The instructions are written in English as a first language so they are easy to understand but you can't skip or cheat. 30-minute job. American-built and well-marked; it looks like there's a bit of a sense of humor involved. Would definitely buy again if needed. ... show more

I really love this book shelf and it’s an absolute gem for the price. I love real wood furniture but this is heavy enough to sustain a large amount of books! Over 70lbs when delivered and super awkward to walk down an apartment building dragging this lug of a thing. One negative is that there were no instructions on how to put it together, thank goodness for my hubby! Also, don’t put the backing on while it’s laying down because the boards move and you will tear through the boards with the nails, I did. 😕 -And, it’s a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be! ... show more
