With hubby's help, and a power drill (shh!), we got this built in under 2 hours. A couple pieces weren't labeled, but we deduced as we went along where they were meant to go. The instructions are clear and easy to understand. We didn't make any mistakes, when usually we have to backtrack once or twice when building furniture, so we are feeling pretty proud of ourselves. We chose not to put the file folder rods in. We use the drawers without and they are fantastic. We also replaced the drawer pulls with glass ones from HD, and used the screws that came with the desk drawer pulls. The pulls that come with it are very small and hard to grasp. You may want to add felt furniture-sticker-circles-thingies to the bottoms of each leg if you're moving this around on hardwood. There is another desk by this company- exact same style- except the blue decorative drawers are plain white. We almost bought that one before seeing that this one costs $70 less. Do yourself a favor and just buy this one to save money. You can paint the drawer fronts or wallpaper/mod podge them if you don't like the pattern on the front. 100% happy! ... show more

I had been eying this desk for months before I finally gave in and hit the button that made me the proud new owner of this delightful build-it-yourself craftsmanship. It came packaged carefully, but beware--it weighs a ton! I, a woman of only moderate strength, was able to get it in my house by myself with some careful and creative maneuvering. Hint: carefully tip on it's side and slide it across the floor. Instead of moving the entire box to the location I ultimately wanted the desk, I took the pieces out one by one and moved them-this saved my back and allowed me to complete the build on my own. The instructions are clearly written, and as other reviews mentioned, include a bit of humor. I took the advice of another reviewer, and didn't assemble the desk with the top on the ground, but instead placed it on top of the base, and worked from underneath to tighten it up...slightly uncomfortable, but I felt it was easier than trying to then lift the whole desk for the final steps. You will need a basic tool kit to complete this-a hammer and screw driver at the very least. I should mention that this did take me 3-4 hours to complete on my own, but I was pretty meticulous about double checking my steps. Drawers are really hard to ghetto right. This desk has a lot of pieces and a lot of steps. Took me about 3 hours

It’s a cutie. Not difficult to put together, but lots of pieces and time consuming. It took us about 3.5 hours with my boyfriend taking the lead and me assisting. The instructions were for the most part easy to understand. I think there were two parts that were maybe a little confusing but didn’t take much to figure out. We were missing a cam screw (I think this is mentioned in more than one other review too). We were able to go ahead and put it together without it and I have contacted the manufacturer to have another one sent out. It’s still pretty sturdy without it (we left it off the bottom of a leg piece labeled L). The drawers came a little scuffed up after dirty, but not hard to clean off. Otherwise came in good condition. I do have to say that the boards and holes and all the things lined up really well. Much better when compared to other similarly manufactured products I’ve bought and assembled. We had a little bit of trouble with one of the drawers being crooked but we were able to work together and come up with a solution... could have been user error. All in all, I like it and would buy it again knowing what I know now. ... show more
