I purchased the bookcase because it was advertised made in the United State. I received the one labeled made in China. Feeling cheated. I have assembled several bookcases for me and my son, this one is uniquely peculiar. The 2 sides and 2 shelves ( top and bottom) were put together by 8 screws , the whole bottom shelf literally touches the hardwood floor meaning this small bookcase needs 2 people to move around. There are visible gaps between each adjustable shelf and the sides. The 24 provided nails keep the back cardboard open. The laminae is as thin and soft as paper, it was scratched out when I removed a tiny glued label on the top shelf. The one star is to praise seller's smart idea about packaging. The item was packaged in such away that I had to destroy the carton to take the item out, and therefore destroyed the thinking about returning the item. ... show more

I feel like pictures speak louder than words. But I built this shelf by myself and for someone who's never used a hammer or built anything, it was surprisingly easy to build! It's also really deep, you can easily double up if you're running low on space. But it's definitely durable, color is attractive and holds plenty of books. ... show more

I usually dread buying 'assembly required' bookshelves, tv stands, etc. because putting them together is often a nightmare. There always seems to be about a thousand pieces, thread on the screws is often wonky, the pre-drilled holes are never lined up properly, and the list goes on. This bookshelf definitely seems to be an exception to that rule - it's also made in the USA, which probably isn't a coincidence. Assembly for this bookshelf consisted of screwing eight (8) high quality screws into properly aligned and sufficiently pre-drilled holes, tacking on the backing piece, and pushing eight (8) of those little plastic shelf holder thingies into place. It was a 10 minute (at most) one-man job requiring a phillips head screwdriver and a hammer, and really could not have been any easier. ... show more

I bought 3 of these as a temporary solution. They are cheap enough that I planned to give them to Goodwill when I move out of state. By the time I finished assembling the first one, I was so sick I just couldn't do another. I sat the first one in a corner and soon realized that my whole apartment stunk from the odor. I finally sat it outside under roof — it was raining. The odor is so strong I am not sure it will ever clear. It is as if they added a strong perfume to the glue in the particle board. It is extremely toxic. I had a headache almost immediately. Fortunately Amazon took the other two units back. They had the same odor. If you're looking for a small, inexpensive - yet sturdy bookshelf, this is a great purchase. I needed a small bookshelf where I could put video games/movies/books in a media center area in my house. I ended up purchasing two of these so I could maintain symmetry in my room - but that isn't relevant. This bookshelf is very easy to put together (it obviously comes disassembled), you only need a hammer and a screwdriver. I'm not handy, and it was even easy for me to assemble! The shelves are adjustable, so you can customize the height of the shelves to your needs. The shelf doesn't look cheap and feels sturdy; there is a good weight to the product. In addition, the depth of the shelves is excellent. I included a picture that shows my VHS movies stacked two deep without any space issues (yes, I've kept all my VHSs...). I'm inclined to purchase a few more of these for my sons' rooms/books. ... show more

I've made Sauder units for many years (1996 to present) and they STILL serve well! Shelf units of various heights, end tables, and a large entertainment wall unit. They look great as well. Not difficult to assemble either, for the average purchaser. Secret: use Elmer's or Wood Glue in the joints and then screw the unit tight, or twist the toggle-lock. It's a solid piece of furniture if correctly assembled. Wrongly and it's flimsy and teeters. Be sure the back is attached to these units, it's a very important structural component! I suggest purchase of some more proper size nails, there aren't enough provided. Glue this too on the permanent edges, not the shelves that move. Be sure the unit's square before nailing the back. Hint: get a small can of stain the color of your choice and color the unlaminated side of shelves, they'll look better, richer. ... show more

We needed a simple bookshelf. This product fit the bill and was less expensive than the least expensive from the Scandinavian big "I" retailer. This product does exactly what we need and is not only cheap, but really cheap. It features genuine photo veneer particle board construction with a high quality cardboard "Highland Oak" back that is nailed on with the warning not move the shelf until installed as whole thing might fall apart. It took about 30 - 40 minutes to assemble with absolutely no extra hardware included, so don't lose anything. ... show more

These book cases were easy to put together and they look nice. I bought two to separate my "office" area from the living room. I think they were good value for money as well. They feel sturdy (especially with all of the books added).
