These shoes are light, breathable, comfortable, and provide a thick cushion. I opted for them in place of my usual purchase of Brooks Ghosts so that is my only brand of comparison. The the toe box in this shoe is good, especially if you require a wider size like I do. On the Brooks, even in a wider size, my outer toes tend to wear out the mesh top until they eventually poke through. These shoes accommodate my feet nicely. I walk 4 miles per day, so comfort is a must, but the Sauconys lack the same whole foot grip that Brooks exhibits. What I mean by that is that the either the extra wide size or the sock I was wearing or the material of the shoes cause it to slide when you stride. This wobble caused a stress in my knees that I do not feel with the Brooks. UPDATE: I tried wearing a thicker, cushioned sock and retightened the laces and that seems to have made the difference. Also, I am not sure that the Sauconys have the same grip on the surface of the road that the Brooks have. So, if you are a runner, you might consider that. I walk on a paved bike trail. I recognize that these are new shoes and will require some breaking in. I have yet to try them on treadmill and the experience might be different. They are a good value, too. I will update my review if the shoes break in well.

The Saucony Ride is my go-to running shoe, and these were one of my favorite pairs so far. They arrived in perfect condition and fit as expected. I am also a fan of the darker color because they look clean for much longer. Historically, the biggest downside of the Ride is that the shoes tend to start falling apart after a few months (earlier than my other shoes). We'll see if that happens to this pair as well...

So after searching for a comparable shoe at lower price point, and seeing positive reviews I decided to try the Saucony Rider 14. Will update review after trying them out on the road.

I typically run about 3-6 miles (up to 13 miles) with Brooks Ghost series or Mizuno WaveRider series. I like to explore new shoes and after reading numerous reviews, I felt the Saucony Ride would be the next step (pun intended). The upper is soft, but stable and connects with the sole well. I don’t feel like I lose stability like you would with social lifestyle brands (can you hear me in the back Allbirds & NoBull?). The shoe laces immediately belong in the trash. The are too long and too stretchy. The bottom of the shoe is riveted so it feels like 50% of the shoe makes contact with the ground causing extra pressure. These are not a soft landing like my Brooks & Mizuno, but they do get me moving quick. The first day (4.3 miles) was a bit of an adjustment to get used to. The second day (6.3 miles) felt better, but recovering on the third day, I woke up with groin & hip discomfort. Can’t say it’s the shoe for sure, but it’s notable because I never really experience that. If you like feeling the ground and a quick response to keep moving, these are decent. If you prefer padding/cushioning, then maybe try something different.
