Top Amazon Reviews

  • Best TV for the price and I shopped them all
Size: 65 in Style: TV
At the time of writing this, with the close out prices on this 2018 model, nothing beats it. I shopped hard for hours using reviews here, BB, on forums and youtube. I was trying to justify the extra cost of the Sony x900f which would of ended up being 500 more after tax and couldn't do it. For 1140 plus tax on this one I couldn't find anything better. It also rates higher than the newer model replacing it. I read about the issues this TV can have but never dwell on that because every brand and every model has it's faults and failures, seriously, nothing is perfect. Vanns, the seller I purchased this through on Amazon shipped fast and my box had no damage, note that this TV comes in a box within another box so packaging is good and thick. This is my first tv purchase of the same size of what it was replacing which was a 2017 LG UJ6300. After recently watching Game of Thrones the long night episode and a couple dark movies I decided I wanted something with better colors, blacks and motion. Especially when comparing my cheap LG to my buddies OLED. No this isn't OLED quality but it is very good "again, especially for the price." So the issues. Rtings and AVS forums are a good place to start but I'll break down common complaints. Dirty screen is very minimal but if you look for it during the right scenario you might be able to find a little, don't look for it and you won't see it, this can vary by set. A popping sound as heat expands the plastic on the back, I faintly heard it a couple of times when first turning on the TV and then it just kind of stops the longer its on. Light bleed, I have none on my set. Local dimming acting funny with subtitles, I got the new firmware update and don't have an issue with this. The brightness is fantastic and I can't imagine anyone considering the picture to be dim. Black levels are very good but not perfect, with limited local dimming zones blacks can still look a tad washed out but still worlds better than cheaper/older TVs. Colors are simply beautiful and very vibrant, it still surprises me that this is an edge lit TV as uniformity looks great. Motion is fantastic, this besides the colors and brightness was the biggest upgrade over my LG. Everything is clear and smooth without the soap opera effect, very natural and clean looking. It can get a mild stutter here and there but nothing distracting. The remote is a love or hate it kind of thing, I hate it. It's kind of like when Honda removed the volume button in their cars to give it a cleaner look and everyone complained about it so they added it back on newer models. I still prefer old school remotes with buttons and I don't think a TV remote should come with a learning curve. Volume I can't comment on, I don't and never will use the TV speakers. Gaming is great, I have a ps4 pro so I can't take advantage of freesync but response time is a non issue. Smart features I also don't use, I use the ps4 for stuff like hulu and netflix. Reliability is naturally something I will have to evaluate with time. Hopefully if I do have any issues, they arise before my 30 day return window is up. I do have a 10+ year old Samsung 40 inch LCD still kicking as my bedroom TV but it always seems like the newer and more complicated electronics get, the more they break. Comparing 1-2 star reviews, this particular tv has less failures compared to most others. Yes it can still happen but that is with everything, at least the odds are in our favor. ... show more

  • Happily "burning out my retinas"
Size: 82 in Style: TV
When I told my daughter I was buying the Samsung 82" QLED, she texted back that I would "burn out my retinas". She wasn't far off. This is a magnificent electronic tour de force. For full disclosure, I've had my issues with Samsung TVs in the past. This TV replaced a 75" Samsung HD set that I had for about 8 years and, for the most part, was great. But twice I had that dreaded failure where the TV would randomly shut off and restart repeatedly. After months of troubleshooting and anguish, I replaced a cable and all worked well, but it raised serious concern about Samsung and their QA. Nevertheless, when it came to buy a new one, I ended up going back to Samsung basically for two reasons. First, the quality of the picture is only second to the LG OLED. But LG does not make an 80"+ OLED TV that doesn't require a second mortgage. So the second reason I bought the Samsung is because the cost is reasonable by comparison (although still high). I also rationalized that over the years, Samsung has hopefully addressed their QA issues and I won't suffer though more troubleshooting issues in the future. (File this one under "Denial".) But enough of that. The TV itself is stunning. We purchased the wall-mounting as part of our package and Angel, the Amazon installer, was terrific. In and out in about 45 minutes, and that included the assembly of the mount. Once turned on, the set-up wizard walks you through everything you need to get you up and running, including the recognition of the attached DVR, Apple TV, Roku, and game console. No need to remember which HDMI port each is plugged into. The TV labels all the ports in an easy-to-access menu that you display via the sleek remote. The remote is minimalistic but very functional. Others have complained about it, but honestly, other than using my DirecTV remote to change channels, I use the Samsung remote for all other functions. The Home button displays a menu that allows you to access all your other devices, and those are integrated with access to the apps for quick access to Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, or, in my case, the MLBTV app. No more of this nonsense of reaching for the TV remote, pressing "Source", trying to remember which HDMI port is the Apple TV, selecting the port, then reaching for the Apple TV remote. The magic all happens with one single remote. But the beauty of this TV (and the reason you shell out all that money) doesn't really come home to roost until you see the vibrancy of the colors. It's hard to convey. It's like Dorothy living her life in Kansas in black and white for the first 45 minutes of "The Wizard of OZ", and then opening the door of her tornado-transported house only to see the REAL colors of the Emerald City. The first time I saw the red and greens in the graphics of some of the networks, it was like seeing what real color is supposed to look like. It jumps off the page (if your TV was paper). On the other hand, maybe my retinas were sufficiently burned. Either way, several days later, I'm still in awe when I turn the TV on and the colors become living, all-encompassing waves of vibrancy. It's spectacular. It's probably a good idea to plan to fool with some of the motion settings. Accepting the defaults made for some interesting effects while watching football on the NFL Network, especially in close-ups of fast-moving interior linemen, or a camera tracking a pass upfield. But after an afternoon of twiddling with the settings, I have the best television picture I've seen in my life. Now if we can just get the networks to start broadcasting in 4K, that would be great. It's a lot of money to pay for a TV, and I'm sure if you wait, the price of these will drop significantly as the technology improves. But if you're looking for what amounts to cutting edge picture quality now and the price doesn't scare you, you can't go wrong with the Samsung QLED. They're making retinas a thing of the past. :-) ... show more
