  • Easy setup and good picture! Nice and reliable monitor.
I got this for my special needs son, who needs a new computer but also wanted a TV in his room - so this monitor was a nice compromise while I shop for a good computer to use with this. We used a Roku stick to test this out ASAP, and we’re pleased with how crisp and sharp the picture and colors were for the price point. Setup was a cinch, as this is more or less a good basic monitor without unnecessary frills or bells and whistles. Either launch it on the wall or put together the included base to place on a desk or what have you - and use the included HDMI cable to plug in to the device of your choosing, and you’re good to go. There’s no speakers, so you’ll need an extra setup for that if your computer doesn’t have them. We really like the curved screen, which somehow makes the screen appear somewhat larger than just a 27”. That part surprised me. His room for now is fairly small, however, so this suits the space restrictions we have. We have family come stay at our house several times a year, and his room converts to the official guest room for now during those times - and we’re happy we can use this to double as his computer screen but still have the ability to stream whatever we want with the Roku stick for movies and TV shows for our fam guests, too. My son was excited to also use this as a TV. Win-win! When I first opened the box for assembly, I got a little worried when I didn’t immediately see the base and cord - but all of that was under the styrofoam packing. Also note before throwing away the box/packing materials - there’s a spot on the underside of the foam packing that we almost missed, but it held one of the primary components for putting the base together (the neck portion). I thought it was missing, but it was wrapped in white foam packing in addition to being nestled tightly in the general foam packing and was thus pretty camouflaged at first blush. Once found, it was super easy to assemble and set on my son’s desk. It’s super light weight but also reasonably sturdy on a solid, flat surface — so no issues there at all. Plug it in, hook it up to whatever you wish, and press the circular button in the back for a few seconds, and boom - works like a champ. I did not need to adjust the settings much at all for a clean and vivid picture - default settings work well - but you can easily change and customize all that to your needs and preferences. Overall, if you’re looking for a time-tested, reliable brand of computer monitor that won’t break the bank and is fairly simple to use - this is a nice choice, especially when you are trying to maximize your space. This is great for students on a budget, as well - or for people who aren’t overly tech savvy but need something decent to work with. Can’t wait to find a good computer for my son to go along with this monitor and we are all set! ... show more

  • Budget monitor at a budget price. Curved. I really like it.
This is my first curved monitor and the combination of the curve and the big screen size felt a bit weird at first, almost like a slight fish-eye effect, but I got used to it pretty fast and started to like it. The screen is bright and crisp and looks really great. I tried it in a few games and the curved screen felt much more immersive than my regular monitor. The higher refresh rate probably helped while gaming too. This is a budget monitor though, and with that comes a couple trade-offs. First, there are only two inputs, HDMI and VGA (VGA is outdated so really only one input option). Second, the resolution is acceptable, but it would be nice to have slightly higher resolution for a monitor this size, say 2560 x 1440 instead of its native 1920 x 1080). But these things are acceptable and fair given the price. The monitor screen looks great out of the box. Mine didn't have any dead pixels and I don’t notice any glare. The monitor is still viewable at extreme angles (off to the side), but dims considerably at those angles (probably a VA panel). Viewing from the front and moving head from middle to edge of screen, the dimming effect is slightly there but probably wouldn’t be noticeable if not concentrating on it. As I mentioned before, native resolution is 1920 x 1080 resolution and wont go any higher in windows. It supports a high refresh of 100Hz. I did not notice any flicker. The stand is fixed height and the bottom of the bezel sits about 4 inches off the desk. The back of the stand protrudes about 5” behind the monitor and the two legs sit roughly 2” in front. The screen will tilt and I measured 20 degree tilt backward and 3 degree forward. The stand height is fine overall, but I wish I could lower the screen if I wanted (you can always raise it by putting it on a box or riser). The back does have 75x75 VESA screw holes for a different mount, so that could eliminate limitations of the stand. Ports on the back are: one HDMI, VGA, power, and an audio jack (there are no built-in speakers). Power is supplied by a 35W power brick with a barrel plug into the back. I tried the audio jack and it sounds fine and is supplied through the HDMI. There is a volume slider in the monitor menu, but it is not very convenient. The screen menu button is on the back lower right side and uses a single button with an integrated joystick to navigate up/down/left/right. The menu has settings for the normal adjustments (bright, contrast, sharpness, color) as well as some presets (Custom, standard, cinema, and dynamic contrast). There is also a game mode that switches straight to the best settings for games. An interesting feature in the menu is the “eye saver mode” setting. I like the look when enabled. Supposedly it lowers the blue light output and visually it looks like it also lowers the contrast slightly. It looks great on “low”, but on “high” setting is too washed out. Overall, this is a super affordable monitor that looks great, is curved, and has higher refresh rates for gaming. It is lacking in some areas, but what it lacks, it makes up for in price. Good value. ... show more

  • Great for work and ok for gaming. Needs better stand
I picked up this Samsung monitor for work and so far it has been working pretty good for what I need. The 27 inch screen gives me plenty of room for my work and the picture has a decent resolution for everyday use. The curved screen is actually pretty nice and makes the monitor feel more comfortable to look at for longer periods. The 1800R curve isnt to extreme, so it doesnt feel strange when using it for work. The 100Hz refresh rate is also a nice bonus even though I dont use this monitor for gaming. Everything feels pretty smooth when moving windows around or scrolling through documents and web pages. My biggest complaint is that it has no DisplayPort connection. For a work setup this really sucks becuase I would have liked to have more connection options depending on what computer Im using. Also I put it on a different stand because I needed more adjustment positions. Overall, I like the monitor and the curve is nice with a decent resolution. If it had a DisplayPort connection and better stand I would have given it 5 stars, but because of that missing port and stand Im giving it 4 stars. ... show more

  • Good monitor and easy setup.
This is a nice monitor with good color and quality of picture. The stand was easy to set up, is stable and secure with no wobbling. While it does allow for tilting, I wish it also allowed for raising or lowering it. My wife has a desk stand that raises and lowers so you can work standing up so she doesn’t need the height of the current stand. The curve feature is nice, and it was so easy to just plug in the cables and power, set your desktop setting to extend monitors (as that is what we needed for two monitors) and you are good. Comes with cables and instructions. My Rating Scale: 5 stars = meets or exceeds a high mark for all elements I consider in my reviews (see below) with only minor suggestions for improvement. Highly recommend. 4 stars = meets most elements I consider in my reviews with one or more important suggestions for improvement. Recommend. 3 stars = meets many of the elements I consider in my reviews, but the item has some deficiencies beyond suggestions for improvement. Recommend only if you are OK with the deficiencies mentioned. 2 stars = meets one or more of the elements I consider in my reviews. I would not recommend. 1 star = does not meet the elements I consider in my reviews. I recommend avoiding this item. • Immersive 100Hz Curved Second Screen For Laptop Workflows
Working off a cramped laptop display all day makes multitasking an exercise in frustration. I ordered this Samsung 27-inch Essential S3 curved monitor to run as a dedicated extended display connected straight over HDMI. Setup is simple with the included cable, firing up immediately with clean color saturation and zero dead pixels. The 1800R curve wraps gently around your peripheral vision, making the workspace feel noticeably expansive when spreading out spreadsheets, active browser tabs, and documents side by side. Daily office and drafting tasks run exceptionally smooth on the eyes. The 100Hz refresh rate eliminates cursor jitter, keeping scrolling and window dragging crisp. The on-screen display joystick on the back makes tweaking settings fast, and enabling Eye Saver Mode on low cuts down on blue light fatigue during long work sessions without washing out contrast. The stand snaps together easily, though make sure to check under the styrofoam packing so you do not overlook the wrapped neck piece. Keep the budget trade-offs in mind for a workstation setup. The 1920x1080 resolution is fine for general productivity, but pixels are visible up close across a 27-inch canvas, and the VA panel tech shows slight corner dimming off-axis. For an extended displayPort selection is bare-bones with just 1 HDMI and 1 legacy VGA input, omitting DisplayPort entirely. There are also no built-in speakers, so you will rely on your laptop audio or plug wired headphones into the rear 3.5mm jack. The included stand tilts 20 degrees back and 3 degrees forward, but the lack of height adjustment means setting it on a riser or mounting it via the 75x75mm VESA holes to match your laptop screen height. At $119, it is a tough, dependable second screen that dramatically opens up daily desktop real estate. ... show more

  • Terrible stand
Bought it so it could be closer to the wall. The stand is a terrible design. The monitor has to be 6 inches from the wall. Instructions say it has a round bottom stand, but not included. Now I have to buy a wall mount.

  • curved computer monitor
I'm not at all comfortable handling computer setup or programs so was very nervous about setting up this monitor. However, I've started doing the bookkeeping at church and really needed a separate monitor to attach to my laptop to facilitate all the processing I need to do. I was so pleasantly surprised at how easy this was to set up - the instructions were very clear and all the components and cords were provided and well marked. You can see from the pictures that I was able to get a beautiful picture on the screen - I was so pleased at my accomplishment! I've never used a curved screen before and it makes the monitor seem much larger than 27". The colors are vibrant and clear and the controls are positioned just where you'd expect them to be. I won't use the monitor for gaming or streaming but for my purposes, it's just what I needed at a very reasonable price. This monitor is much less expensive than many competitors' products and I've used Samsung products for many years and always been impressed at the quality, longevity and performance. This is another in a long line of Samsung products that I've been very pleased with. I didn't need the latest, greatest, most expensive monitor so this is just perfect. ... show more
