It has simply put been the best backpack I have ever had, I owned the first generation backpack, but was disappointed in that because when set down to stand on its own it would keep falling, but now with better more sturdier materials this backpack is surely a milestone in improved quality and overall performance. It’s larger The water bottle holders on the sides have been improved. Unlike the annoying red strap holder on the first Gen backpack Better laptop only sleeve in which come in two sizes to match the size of a laptop from 15'' to 18'' laptops. The inside pockets are more suede and pose less scratch, chances to devices and objects. The backpack straps are vastly improved and much more comfortable than the 1st Gen Tectonic. I mainly bought this backback because it has a luggage loop to easily attach to a wheeled suitcase. I got sick of my old laptop bag constantly falling off my suitcase (no one wants to wear a backpack if they don't have to). But after having this bag for a few months, it's quite clear how well thought out the design is. The padding is solid and it's quite roomy - I can fit all my laptop peripherals as well a few extra items with no trouble, and the large pouches on the side can actually fit my large 40oz water bottle, a rarity in my expericne! Easy access phone compartment is another great addition. Lots of little pouches and separators help you keep things organized. The laptop compartment has double zippers and is large and well padded. Two loops at the top give you the option of having a thick handle to carry it with or a small handle to hang it from, and of course the luggage loop so that you can attach to a suitcase handle. Clearly someone put some time into developing a backpack that's well equipped for just about any scenario. Perfect for travel or just going to the coffee shop! ... show more

I have officially not traveled with it yet.....but my initial take is that its a NICE pack! I was considering the Kenneth Cole, or this pack, as BOTH had GREAT reviews, but I chose this one as I like Samsonite name, and to be honest...the LOOK! (I saw a review on the Kenneth Cole that said it looked like a turtle shell, and I agreed!) I am SURE the K Cole pack is nice, but I am happy I picked this one so far! Well designed with a number of pockets! The side pockets are well built! The nylon is thick and a good weave! Build quality seems to be very good! I will pack this thing FULL and HEAVY, and I have confidence it will wear well! The features are nice! My only complaint at this point is I wish it had a few SMALL zip pockets on the outside! (For change? Or small "need to get to" items?) For the price I have to say you CAN'T GO WRONG with this pack! Plus, I won't look like a turtle..... it's ready to see the world! ... show more

First impressions are quite positive. It’s big but not huge, which is perfect. Feels supremely nice and substantial; sturdy and well built. From the zippers, upper handle and materials overall. It’s comfortable to use, padding makes a big difference compared to the Ogio bag I’m retiring after 10 years. Tons of compartments, which are well thought of and useful. Subtle orange details spice it up without taking away the professional demeanor from it. All things considered, it’s a compelling buy. This backpack will mainly serve for office duty and I believe it fits the purpose quite well. A small portion of the front pocket has a sewing or stitching issue. But that may be a seller issue. Regardless, I’m very happy with it and would buy again. EDIT: After a few months of purchase, my thoughts are still the same. Already traveled with it and it was a good companion. The picture showing two bags is the one with Tectonic 1 and Tectonic 2. I ordered orange one but I received the black version which you can see in the other picture. I kept the bag despite of the error as the color really didn't make much difference to me. I had used Tectonic 1 for 4 years, through my college, camping and though it was little heavy, it protected my laptop and gave ample space for other stuff. It was very durable. Never had any complaints. The adjustable holder in the laptop section of Tectonic 1 is not seen in Tectonic 2. I've 15.6" laptop and both series are perfect. 17" fits too, unless the laptop is too bulky! Tectonic 2 has more number of pockets than 1. I feel the volume of tectonic 1 is more than 2. The major difference you'll notice is weight of the backpacks. Tectonic 2 is light weight. The shoulder supports are convenient in Tectonic 1. I prefer Tectonic 1 in design/look. I'm not sure how well this backpack can hold. Hope it's as good as Tectonic 1. I've to wait and see! Until then I'll leave it 5 stars. ... show more
