I needed a pair of shoes with good traction for colder months of the year, where we frequently have a slushy mess of melting snow and dirt that's super slippery. Finally had a chance to try these out. Overall, I felt steady (I'm naturally a klutz) with the solid sole and support provided by lacing up to my ankles. I wish these came in a wide to give more space for the midfoot, too; the mentions of width to these are more for the toebox than the shoe as a whole. My toes didn't feel bunched together and had a little space to spread them. I could use more vertical space for the toes (and foot as a whole), though. Like, I can't fit my custom orthotics in the shoe because it makes it too snug. Luckily the rigidity of the sole helps reduce my need glut it. If I'm in a situation where my feet start swelling, I could see it being a problem. I'm a woman, but I'll get men's shoes for the extra wiggle room. These are nicely a unisex look and didn't stand out on me like some shoes do. Big plus for that! They feel like quality shoes as a whole, I just need a little more room.

These are great hiking shoes! They are very comfortable and provide a lot of support. They are also quality shoes made to last. The soles are hardy and grippy with heavy duty tread, perfect for hiking in the mountains or near slippery streams. The mid height covering the ankles partway helps against rolling ankles. The shoe looks good, as well - go hiking in style! I like the top lace holder design. Instead of a simple metal hook type, the hook is molded and grabs the lace to keep it in place while tying the shoes. It's a neat feature!

We love Salomon’s at our house. The speed crosses are the preferred trail runner for four out of five members of my family so we go through about eight pairs a year. We have not tried out any of their hiking boots and my son needed some new boots for fall hunting so we thought we would give these a try. I sized up half a size to fit thick wool socks and he feels like he would’ve been OK with his actual size. These are quite lightweight for hiking boots, but still provide a lot of support. My son find some comfortable and tells me they are waterproof. The traction is decent though my son says his trail runners have better traction. A great option for hiking or hunting. We always add super feet or curex inserts to our hiking boots and running shoes. Definitely worth the extra money for better inserts though the ones provided are OK.
