Description

A nuts and bolts account of implementing S&OP delivered with a storyteller’s edge enhanced with relatable characters, colorful illustrations, detailed examples and exercises to practice the concepts being presented. Sales and Operations Planning is the cornerstone of effective supply chain management, yet it often becomes over-complicated and difficult to implement across an organization. "Sales and Operations Planning: How To Run an S&OP Process Everyone Understands" is an engaging guide to using S&OP so that it delivers all the benefits and none of the headaches. Whether you’re a budding supply chain practitioner or a seasoned veteran, this book is mandatory reading if you are using or plan to use S&OP within your organization. Entertaining like a screenplay but rich in content like a textbook, Duncan McLeod uses characters and a storyline that are an amalgamation of the 100's of business he has helped become industry leaders over the past 34 years. Jim's manufacturing business, ToyAuto, was recently acquired by GlobeCorp and he is now tasked with implementing the corporate standard S&OP process. With no S&OP background at all, he is overwhelmed from the get-go. With the help of his new boss, Bruce, and a wise consultant, Doug, he starts with the basics and starts implementing a process that not only improves his ability to manage the business but his whole team can participate and contribute to the improvement. • Excellent description of S&OP - excellent Exec Report illustrations
We purchased this book for guidance on how to format Exec S&OP reports, and this was very helpful. Also definitions and illustrations are useful for the team. WELL DONE!

  • Buy this Book - If you are starting out with S&OP
I have purchased copies of this book multiple times for many people in my company. I find that it is an excellent book that clearly lays out the basics of a great S&OP process in a very simple and clear way. No prerequisites required. If you already have an S&OP process that you are mostly satisfied with, and just want to take it to the next level - this is NOT the book for you. This book is just what it says it is - a book written to help get everyone on the same page for what S&OP is all about. It is simple, intuitive, and engaging, but does not delve deeply into the nuances. In short, if you are looking for something to help get everyone pointed in the same direction with what S&OP is all about - buy this book! I can't recommend it more highly. ... show more

  • Great for S&OP & Great Read by Itself
Great business book if you're looking into S&OP, need to understand S&OP within your company, or want to get better at S&OP. Duncan McLeod has been performing S&OP so long with so many clients that he seems to know exactly what information to bring out and when - incremental learning, which I found incredibly helpful. As a side note, Duncan's choice to make this a story reminds me of Blanchard's approach, and I found it refreshing. If you ever get sick of reading the average poorly-written "next business book" on a plane, this is NOT that. You'll zip through with the story leading the way, and learn in the process. ... show more

  • Great step by step workbook for starting or improving your company's S&OP process
This book lays out a simple straightforward way to implement a Sales and Operations Planning process that works. It's easy to read case study walks you through the process of a company leaning and implementing S&OP at their company. The questions at the end of each chapter help you stay on track. I have worked with DBM consulting to successfully implement S&OP at three companies I managed. They provide a very logical and stepped approach which is covered in this book. I wish I had this book when I started my own journey with S&OP. It would have been a great guidebook through the process. I think I would have made it required reading for the key players in my S&OP team. ... show more

  • Destined to Be an S&OP Textbook Classic
I have had the pleasure of working directly with Mr. McLeod and he has been a tremendous aid to our business. It is great to see that he is availing his experience, knowledge, and special technique to anyone who wants to understand or improve their S&OP. There is no doubt that this book is destined to be a textbook classic, especially with his creative “How-to-Approach,” that goes beyond the typical way S&OP is presented. Mr. McLeod cleverly demonstrates how to engage senior leadership in the process so that S&OP is used to run the business! Highly recommended! Robert MacDonald – VMI ... show more

  • Super book for understanding, implementation and reference on the subject of S&OP!
Great presentation of the mechanics and mathematics involved in balancing an effective S&OP plan! Other S&OP books do a great job of laying down the foundational concepts but this textbook takes S&OP one step further and actually teaches you how to make those concepts come alive. The example case that threads through the book guides you one step at a time up to a finished plan. The workbook layout makes it easy to follow along and understand. You need this book if you want to actually put your S&OP theory into practice. ... show more
