  • Great tool for the garage.
I bought this blaster to clean up two half-shafts from my Corvette. I'd never done or even seen sand blasting done before so was a complete newbie. The blaster is VERY simple, but works as advertised. I followed other's recommendations about the medium to use, and bought "play sand" from Home Depot for <$3.00 a bag. I followed their recommendations and removed the moisture in the sand by buying a cheap aluminum baking pan (for turkeys) at the grocery store, filling it with sand and then baking it at 400 degrees for a couple of hours. (Stir it once in a while to get the moisture up from the bottom). It took three sessions to bake the whole bag, I then strained the sand using a kitchen strainer into a 5 gallon bucket (with a lid). It's surprising how many little pebbles were hidden in the sand. The resulting sand is VERY fine and clean! I blasted in my garage, by first covering EVERYTHING else there with tarps or plastic sheets to keep the sand and dust from harming anything. At first I kept the big garage door closed, fearing I might harm some one walking/driving down my alleyway (town house complex). I covered the floor with a big sheet of plastic that I put partially on the floor and partially up the way in a continuous sheet. Using the plastic like this allowed me to gather up the "used" sand for reuse again and again, as it is still clean. GREAT! I put the work piece on cardboard to protect the plastic. Lighting is VERY important. I just used the overhead lights, but in hindsight, think a flood light would be better. I ended up opening the garage main door for more light and to help get rid of the dust. The blaster itself worked flawlessly with my clean, dry sand, but it took longer than I'd expected because the blast is very small in diameter, so it takes time to sweep back and forth on large objects. This is DEFINITELY not an industrial tool but is great for the handyman. It comes with all kinds of CYA warnings, which I did observe. The most important for me was eye protection. I used the enclosed goggles, which had small vent wholes on each side. They ended up letting in fine dust particles which bothered me until my tears finally washed them out. They also steamed up. You might want to try something else. Heavy, leather gloves are also mandatory, because there were times I had to hold the work piece in one hand and blast with the other. All in all, I got the job done extremely well, and now like they say, "To a hammer, everything looks like a nail". Now everything I see looks like it should be sandblasted! ... show more

  • Quality American Product
I have owned this little Sand blasting rig for a little over a year now so there has been some time spent using it. My experience has been very good probably because of others reviews and the Manufacturer's online resources. The air supply is critical as is explained in the Literature provided with the unit. I found it best to only load as much blasting media that will do the job and by all means, blast is an enclosed area or outside because this is [as expected] a really messy process. This little Sand Blaster does work very well on removing paint and heavy rust. My air compressor supplies less air than is required so I added another storage tank which provides enough additional air supply to maintain blasting for short periods of time. This is effective for my purposes but for prolonged periods a larger compressor would be needed. Overall, this is a simple but well made piece of equipment that has been a good investment and that has been used several times with great results. It is also very easy to maintain and store due to its compact size. ... show more

  • For a low end home blaster this is worth it
For the money this is great. It handles a variety of blasting media, I am using baking soda (which is not listed) and my only complaint is that I have to shake the hopper to keep the flow going... but that is the soda not the tool (which doesn't list soda as a recommended media). Other than that the soda is doing the job and to tool is performing. ... show more

  • This is just what I needed. It works like magic.
I bought this for an automotive project to remove rust from the frame & body of a 61 C20 apache. Tip: I tried several types of media and all the nozzles with each grade grit and material. The Directions say don't use sand... Don't listen to that! SAND WORKS EXCELLENT IN THIS ON RUST AND PAINT REMOVAL. Use the small tip and fine sand or fine grit garnet... highest pressure. I have an engine driven compressor with 10+cfm rating, and still rest every 10 seconds for about 20 seconds of pumping... 120psi, 1-2 inches from surface... erases deep rust in pitted surfaces like chalk from a chalkboard... so easy. Don't bother with medium or coarse grits, waste of money. ... show more

  • I used the recommended material.
did not work well at all, the blasting material would not flow well and I was only able to do about a 5 inch diameter area in an hour. I used the recommended material. It is as piece of junk and the company that sent it to me will not let me send it back for a refund. I would not recommend anyone deal with TOOLTOPIA for any kind of equipment. ... show more
