The item is as described. I purchased this to use for work. I have been using composition books for years to take notes in meetings as padded paper can get seperated and is a larger footprint than I care for. This allows me to keep my notes in order with a more grown up/ professional look. It is a thick leather cover that is cut and stitched together to fit a composition book. The edges are not seemed but simply cut. If you are looking for something more polished with folded seems for the edge, this is not it. It is hard for me to see that in the product picture or perhaps it's my bad vision. The stitching on the outside is a thick thread while the stitching on the inside is a thinner thread. I think this will last a lifetime even if you may have to mend a stitch. I say this because I can be rough with my stuff. If the stitching comes out it can be mended but the leather is good for life. The customer service is EXCELLENT! I received an email from the Rustic Ridge folks the day I recieved my product as a follow up to see how I liked my product and the experience I had. It was shipped from Amazon fulfillment. Unfortunately I had a tear in the packaging and an indentation in my cover. I sent them a picture and explained. They replied right away and sent a replacement along with a shipping update. I didn't have to make a big effort for them to get me the product in perfect shape and make me happy. I plan on giving one to my college student. He is stylish and would greatly appreciate this. He has a leather folio for his tablet. This is a great gift for a student, a writer, a note taker or anyone who would appreciate a journal. My wish... (couldn't find one)...is for it to have a pen holder and business card pocket. I give four stars because I actually thought it was a finished seem. If the stitches last over time I will come back and give it 5 stars. A better description would have helped. I was on the fence about this purchase. I read people's reviews about their product experiences and it made me question the size and quality of what I was purchasing. However, upon receiving this cover I was immediately impressed by the beauty of the leather - the quality, smell and feel was wonderful. Some people had complained about scratches and discolorations and creases - this wasn't the case for me. Likewise, the stitching was very nice too. Nothing loose or "unfinished" looking. There were many complaints about the rough cut edges. I did notice this, and although the edges aren't finished by wax or other edge-finishing compounds, they weren't BAD. All I did was take some 150-grit sandpaper and rub it around all the edges, and presto - everything was nice and smooth! From reading reviews, I was concerned about the fit of the composition books. Some people indicated that they needed to be cut down, etc. While mine isn't tight, you can see that this is made to fit. The composition book that came with it fit well. I also ordered some Mead and some Emraw composition books. Both brands fit well. There is no play in the fit - but they slide right in and fit perfectly! Finally, I own a laser engraver and did some engraving on the cover. This leather engraves beautifully! Overall this is going to make a GREAT gift, at a very reasonable price, and it is very nice quality. For the price I would definitely buy more!!! ... show more

I was a little concerned over the reviews but I took a chance. The leather is decent and the stitching while not superior does the job. It’s exactly the correct size and has sufficient size to protect any tabs I might add to my notes. I only recently switched to the old comp notebooks because the ones I’ve used for years skyrocketed in price.     • Rustic Look and Feel, Exactly as Described

First of all, I have a thing for leather-the smell, the feel, as well as the natural imperfections. This leather cover was exactly was I was looking for. It has more of a rustic, made-by-hand look rather than a polished, made-by-machine look. It came with a 100-page composition book, 9.75 in x 7.5 in, which fits nicely to allow for easy opening and closing without a binding issue. There are no pockets on the inside, simply a place (sewn flap) on either side to insert the front and back covers of the composition book. The inside cover flap inserts are finished in the same manner as the outside, but the inside, which is behind the notebook, is rough, unfinished leather. I have seen similar leather covers a few times at leather stores/vendors and actually bought one for $65 (it had a strap that snapped in the front, but the strap annoyingly gets in my way when the cover is open-which is why I was looking for another one). For this Refillable Leather Composition Notebook by Rustic Ridge Leather, I personally consider $36.97 to be very reasonably priced and well-made (considering it is supposed to be "rustic"). ... show more
