  • Soon To Be A Children's Classic
Format: Hardcover
This is a very cute story about someone who is a little different being encouraged to accept himself as worthwhile and encouraging others to do the same.

  • So Quirky and Wonderful - Might Become Your Child's Favorite Book
I've adored Matthew Grey Gubler since I first saw him playing Spencer in Criminal Minds. I watched reruns of the show over and over just to watch him act because he's that good. So when I learned he had written children's books, as an author myself, I had to check them out. My favorite book of all time was Frank Muir's What-a-Mess that I used to read to by boys at bedtime when they were little. They made me read it every night and sometimes twice. We determined we're all What-a-Mess and that's just okay. Matthew's books are every bit as endearing and may just be on my favorite shelf as What-a-Mess. I bought this book to give to my grands (8, 6, and 5) but couldn't part with it so I'll be buying another copy of Rumple Buttercup for each of them for Christmas this year. Hm, it just occurred to me, Matthew must like green a lot. This book has a joyful theme of acceptance - we're all different and weird in our own ways and doesn't that just make us all wonderful? He brings a message of hope to those who feel like outcasts. Anywho, I love the quirkiness of this book. It may just become your child's favorite! Yes, your kid could read it themselves, but bedtime stories are so much more fun if you read to your little ones. Great time for bonding and a lifetime of memories. ... show more

  • Amazing, charming, positive - get this now.
Format: Hardcover
Always a fan of Matthew Grey Gubler, so was super excited to see he had a children's book just out, so I picked it up for my son - it looked interesting, and it talked about carrying a positive message, so seemed like it would be a fun read. Wow. We have a million books for my son as he *loves* books, but this was one of the most heartfelt and charming books we've picked up in a very, very long time. You'll love the main character - I haven't read a book to my son in.... I don't know how long.....that I've actually wanted to cry, then jump up and cheer when it all worked out for the lovable character. This book conveys a very positive message of just being yourself and to not be ashamed of that - I think that's great for children to learn, but I think it's always something we as adults could hear every now and then as well. Art is quirky and cute - my son really liked it and thought it was funny, and the physical book itself was especially well made. You can tell this book, from the story to it's design, was really made from love. As a parent, I really couldn't say anything negative about this book, and encourage everyone who has children to get this book (and even adults too, because we all need to be reminded it's OK to be different sometimes). ... show more

  • Amazing Read Aloud
Format: Hardcover
Such an amazing book about differences, acceptance, and how we're all a little weird if we look close enough! Read this book with my first graders and they were immediately hooked. They saw it from such a deep level and understood why Rumple was hiding and how he was feeling. Were able to think about both Rumple and the people above ground and what they might think if they saw him. Taught them the beautiful lesson that everyone's weird and different and that's what makes us so amazing. They were able to understand this lesson and wanted to talk about it because they really understood what Matthew Gray Gubler was trying to get across. Is officially in my Read Aloud line up!! Beautiful illustrations, writing, and message. All around an amazing book for all ages! ... show more

Such an important story about finding a community and learning that insecurities don’t define you. It’s also an easy and cute read for all. I know some teens that definitely should read this book (and even some adults)!
