Description

Your child isn't broken! Transform your child's ADHD into a superpower that will turbocharge how they learn, think, and grow! Peter Shankman realized a long time ago that his ADHD was responsible for most, if not all of his success. After starting and selling three companies and writing five best- selling books (including Faster Than Normal, which in five years has become the bible of ADHD and productivity), Peter decided it was time to write a book that focused on children—one that would teach them that ADHD, and all forms of neurodiversity, can be gifts, and not a curse—as long as they understand how to use them. That’s what this book is about. Come meet Peter, his mom and dad, and Dr. Lisa, and understand why having a faster brain is the best thing that a child could ask for. Read more

  • Great explanation of ADD for kids
Format: Paperback
Written by someone who has lived with ADHD his whole life, The Boy with the Faster Brain is a brilliant book that will help kids (and their parents) everywhere. The story of Peter and his issues in school and how he gets help from a therapist and some tips and tricks can inspire your kids and arm the adults with tips to share with those kids. I also recommend the "adult" version of the book, Faster Than Normal, and the podcast. All great resources for anyone with ADHD/ADD or for those who interact with anyone with this neurodifference. It's truly a superpower and not a disability or hindrance if powered properly. Great book to inspire and help so many people. Kudos to the author! ... show more

  • This book should be read by every teacher, counselor, and parent
Format: Paperback
As soon as this book arrived, I started reading it. I cried while reading it, thinking of all the people in my classes growing up (in the '60s and '70s) who were class clowns, disrupters, and just couldn't concentrate enough to do well in school. I hope this book helps the kids nowadays to realize their ADHD and others with neurodiversity give them a Faster than Normal brain that they can learn to "drive" like a professional driver learns to drive a very fast race car. I would like to see every teacher, school counselor, and parent that has a disruptive kid read this book and see if there are ways to harness their abilities. The author has ADHD and has learned to drive his Faster than Normal brain. He has written many books; this is his second (that I know about) about ADHD (the first is "Faster than Normal"). He has started and sold three companies and travels world-wide to give presentations on marketing and other topics. His writing is interesting, funny, and poignant. I HIGHLY recommend this book! ... show more

  • A powerful book to help understand ADHD and kids with faster brains
Format: Paperback
My son has a faster brain. We are working with him to learn to drive it safely and productively. Yesterday we read The Boy with the Faster Brain by Peter Shankman together. He loved the book. He was so happy to know he wasn’t the only kid with a brain that works faster. Representation matters. My son matters. This book matters. You matter. If you have a faster brain, or you love someone who has a faster brain, slow yourself down and get a copy of this book for you and for them. Read it together. Soak it in. You’re worth it. Thanks for this beautiful book Peter. My son loved it and so did his mom and I. ... show more

  • Life Changer for Parents and Kids
Format: Paperback
There is no better example of a person who has thrived with ADHD than Peter Shankman. What a brilliant book for kids and parents looking for answers as to why their child might be having trouble in school, sitting still, staying focused, or with social cues. We tend to think of mindfulness for adults, but learning how to do simple breathing exercises can make all the difference for kids and teenagers. Straightforward story that will no doubt change many lives. ... show more

  • Representation is EVERYTHING!
Format: Paperback
This is a fantastic book regardless of age level. My son smiled repeatedly as I read the story to him. He reads at a high school level in elementary school, and found the concepts expressed helpful. The author clearly knows exactly the right things to have adults say to help young Peter process and feel seen and heard— and understood. This book speaks volumes. Very grateful for this author and his words. And the illustrations—- don’t ignore those! The illustrator is equally wonderful bringing words to visual success. ... show more

  • GREAT Read for Neurodiverse Littles, AND Their Caregivers
Format: Paperback
First off, full disclosure, I've been friends with the author, Peter Shankman, for 15 years or so. His podcast, Faster Than Normal (and book by the same name) have been an unbelievable resource for neurodivergent adults like myself. And the drum that he's been beating there for over 7 years, and nearly 300 episodes, is: "Having ADD or ADHD is a gift, not a curse." His mission is all about helping people unlock those gifts and tap into their neurodivergent strengths. Well, now we get the children's book version! We have twin, b/g, eight-year-olds, and both have been diagnosed with ADHD. One's medicated, and one's on supplements to help them manage at this age, but this book is a FANTASTIC addition to our tool box. Just getting their diagnoses a year and a half ago was a game-changer because it allowed us to recognize there were other things at play and not just First graders choosing to be naughty on a regular basis. But having this book as a resource to help clearly communicate how they're wired and start to plant the seeds for their future thriving is awesome! Can't wait to share it with those around them to help our village better understand how to support and love on them. If you've got littles in your home, or you care for some on a regular basis that you know (or suspect) are neurodiverse, The Boy with the Faster Brain is a must-have addition to your library! ... show more

  • Do all therapists use VR and video games?? Nope…
Format: Paperback
The first message my 10yo kid latched onto?? That his new therapist will have VR and video games. Yeah. Not the point and possibly won’t even be true. So not really thrilled that the author dangled video games in front of kids who may or may not get that experience. The rest of the book is ok, but I should have known better than to give this to my son to read. ... show more

  • ADHD Amazing!
Format: Paperback
Here I am at 60 just finding out this year I have ADHD. It's a little bit different for females but it's so important to get this information out to both kids and adults. Peter shares so much of his school experience in this book and it's hard for me to tell what's fiction and what really happened. The illustrations are delightful and fun. I love that this book truly is written by one who has experienced and has figured out how to thrive with ADHD. Here's to the next generation of kids saving the world with their ADHD super powers! ... show more
