Throw away the hose, it's not vacuum line. They shouldn't include this accessory since it perceptively cheapens the product. I used 5/8 to match up with my system, so the I didn't use the 1/2" fittings, but the fittings are good quality. The catch can is nicely made and I added a drain valve by drilling and tapping the catch cup with a 3/8" npt. Once installed it would be difficult to get the can off. Now I can just flip the lever valve open. Others claim the aluminum will shed shavings after use or cross thread easy. I wouldn't worry about this. It's anodized nicely which provides a hard coat on all the Al. As for cross threading, just be careful, any careless person can cross thread steel too. Some say the dipstick is useless but it actually works, if I see the yellow/brown goop on it (see picture) I know it's time to clean. One person complained that it needed an o-ring seal for the dipstick. This is a low pressure vacuum system, and uses a tappered wedge seal like many water bottle lids use which is completely effective and I prefer since simple is better in this case. The bracket was worthless to me. I can't see it being that useful to any application. I welded together a bracket of my own. In the end it took a while to get everything I needed for the odd ball connectors on my Audi but it's done and is hopefully working. I'll check back after a few thousand miles. Update: After having this on for 20k miles it definitely collects a lot of gunk and and a some oil, my car only uses 3/4qt/10k miles. Most of what it collects is a emulsified oil & fuel mixture. It smells like paint thinner and kerosene. I added 2 stars back since it works so effectively, see picture above. When I poured this mixture into a clear tea bottle it does separate over time with about 70% water and a couple other layers of stuff on top. I found my drain valve became plugged and I need to add a larger valve with a least a 1/4" diameter through hole rather than the small toggle air valve with a 1/8" orifice. Since it wasn't draining properly through the valve, it filled to the top and my car began to smell like gas or exhaust on the inside. If you get this smell, clean your seperator. Once I cleaned it and put it back together the smell went away. I'll be checking this more often like every 3-5k. I think this is must have on the Audi pre 2016 engines that have carbon build up problems on the intake system and valves. I have the 2013 A6 with the 3.0 supercharged V6. It now 58k miles and I've been running this for 20k miles.

The can is very solid feeling, and the fittings are good too. I really like that they include several fitting sizes and oring for each. They also include the oil resistant thread seal tape, and lots of it. I had plenty to cover both fittings and the dipstick thread as well. Remember to wrap the tape around approximately three times, and in the correct direction so it won't unravel the tape as you tighten the threads. I still had so much tape I could have wrapped everything again. As others have said, the hose is...well. It is listed as high pressure fuel hose. After extensive testing, I found it will only collapsed under the extreme pressure of blocking one side and inhaling through the other. I wouldn't even bother. I personally like the multiduty hose you can find at most auto shops. After driving it 40 miles, it doesn't appear to have and vacuum leaks, but I'll still do a spray down test as well. After a couple of days of driving, impatience got the better of me. I popped it open and found some fresh oil caught. Not much, but more than I'd like to see. So it not only caught some oil from being burned off, but it also told me I have a bad PCV valve. Nice benefit there! The hose for mine is a 5/16...part number H1704 at napa. Other hose sizes will be similar numbers. Only a couple dollars per foot. The clamps worked perfectly for the hose too. Edit: No idea why I gave this 4/5 stars. Absolutely deserves 5/5, apologies to the seller/company. Replaced my PCV valve and pulled the can again. I don't know how well it show in the picture but it really looks like chocolate milk, so it is working phenomenally. Here's to hoping it doesn't have to work overtime now! My 30 year old motor is stock, but sounds incredibly smooth even at high rpms, so hoping this will help with any further excessive wear and keep it running even longer. (1994 F150 5.0 XLT)

First the bad, some reviews say these things stink coming out of the package. I thought for sure that was an exaggeration. I was wrong. This thing REEKS. Once you get past the smell, the threaded surfaces fit up very well. An O ring needs to be fitted to the dip stick. The hose fittings appear to be straight thread and fit up with the can is good enough. I'll probably use a sealant to be sure that they don't leak. Two sets of hose fittings are included that should cover the vast majority of installs. The inlet filter is actually two parts, so a mesh screen screws into the lid, filter material is added, and then another screen is screwed on. Well done. The hose is crap, the intestines out of a pig would be a better choice. Just leave it in the box and buy good hose, odds are it won't be long enough for your application anyway. Update 4/27/2018 As I suspected, sealing of the fittings is an issue. Replaced o rings with quality o rings and sealing is much better. Mounting can be a real pain. If I was going to do it again, I'd probably use a hose clamp instead of building a bracket. Update 4/7/2018. Took a 150 mile journey this weekend, mixed highway and off roading. I was amazed at how much oil ended up in the can. Blow by on this engine is very minimal but oiling must be excellent. Hose to the intake was dry so it is doing a very good job of separation. I'm using stainless steel scrubbie material for my filter medium. Available at Wally world in the dish section. Update 4/18/2019 This has continued to perform well. If I have one complaint, I wish I'd bought a bigger one. In winter commute driving, it needs emptied about every 600 miles. It's shocking just how much water is condensed inside an engine during a typical Montana winter.

Compared various products and prices for the oil catch cans and chose the Ruien 0046. Read the reviews and was a little skeptical of this product as reviews were mixed, but liked the price. No disappointments. Really a quality item. Well made and a heavy piece. Comes with 6 line fittings (3 for inlet & 3 for the outlet) that can be matched to whatever hose size you might use. Also is included is some teflon tape to wrap on the threads of the fittings to create a tight seal. The supplied hose is a thin wall flexible plastic. I can see how in some applications it might collapse. So consider this a "generic" hose, but you may find yourself going to the parts store to get a hose that fits your application, not only with a matching ID, but also in length depending on where you locate the can - so I don't see this as a "negative" point to be considered. A stainless steel scouring pad is included that goes inside the canister. The lower section that will capture the oil screws on and off and is sealed with a large rubber o-ring at the base of the threads. The Inlet and Outlet ports are well marked. Has a dipstick that screws into the top and can be easily unscrewed to check the oil fill level of the can. No o-ring is used to seal it as it has a machined taper at the base which tightens securely into the top plate to create a good seal. Nice shiny black exterior finish. A basic side mount bracket is screwed to the top section. It might work as is, or you may have to fabricate up another bracket to mount on your car and then mount the can to it. If you are adding something like this, then you know how to fabricate if needed. No odd smells or oily parts. Did not see any machined chips, but I will flush and blow it out which I would do anyway prior to installation. So I think this is a great value for the size and price, very complete in application & installation, and am very please with what I received. I would buy again if needed for another vehicle.

It's hard for me to say anything negative about this particular product, though there is one gripe. But it simply works. The hose that comes with the kit will not withstand under hood temps or vacuum from the engine and must be replaced with HD hose similar to what you see attached to mine. In the picture, this is after an low mileage engine install. Before, I had issues with too much oil being circulated through the intake. The engine was failing. But this catch can caught all of the oil that was passing though!! It reduced to oil burn enough to save 7-8 bucks a day!! it was catching the oil and I would simply empty it and pour it back into the engine. Finally I was able to get my engine replaced which had bad rings and valve stem seals as well as a spun bearing. Afterwards, I decided to put the can back on for just for a little insurance. The new engine burns no oil, but should it begin to pass excessive oil through, the can will catch it. I also put it on the new engine due to Mazda's poor design of suction for the crank vent system on this particular car, which is a Protege. The can and tubing lengths slightly reduce the high suction of the engine on the crankcase while still adequately venting crankcase gasses and pressures. It does work very well. The frequency of how often you have to empty the can will be a direct result as of how badly damaged or worn your engine components are. Also I suggest you thoroughly wash your product before use as when opened from the box, it still had some shavings from the machining process inside the can. No big deal, simply wash with alcohol or solvent and use. And you cannot beat the price. It works!! Give it shot!!

Overall this is a decent catch can especially for older engines or cheaper vehicles. I will give my opinions on the pros and cons of this catch can and what should be changed about it. The Pros: Lightweight Easy to install Sturdy Construction of the canister Easy disassembly and cleaning Simple and clean look Seems to work fairly well for engines that push a lot of pressure through the PCV system. The Cons: Mounting bracket is a little tight Fittings are thin aluminum and are probably prone to crack due to vibration Included hoses are terrible and the hoses flattened out when under vacuum completely unusable Included hose clamps don't work and broke due to extremely paper thin aluminum What I would recommend needs to change to make this a worthwhile buy: Kit Needs to include : 5/16" or 1/4" steel hose clamps, this upgrade probably wouldn't cost the company much as steel hose clamps are very cheap and more sturdy than aluminum ones. 1 3ft section of 3/8" vacuum hose or fuel line. The silicon/rubber lines crush under vacuum and will kill the engine if used for long periods. If the company included fuel line or vacuum hose it would only increase the price about 3 to 5 dollars especially if the company buys fuel line in bulk. Include 2 steel wool instead of 1. Conclusion: Overall I'm very impressed with this cheap catch can after I went out and purchased 3/8" fuel hose and installed everything. I think if the company/manufacturer changed what came with the kit it would be worth while. All in with the hoses and clamps plus the kit I was only about $30 into it which is still cheaper than a step up in catch can quality. I will update my review after a couple thousand miles.

Installed this on a 2011 Buick Enclave with the 3.6 L V6 with direct injection, which are known to have intake carboning up issues due to direct injection. A catch can may eliminate these issues. This catch can is built really good for being less than $30. It does a great job of catching all of the moisture, and crap that would otherwise be inside the engine. It's kind of unsettling seeing all the crap that it catches, knowing that was all in the engine! I'd recommend this product to anyone. BUT, there are a few "gotchas" that I have learned" Don't over tighten it, or it will be extremely hard to get off. In order to prevent issues getting it off, I spin it on fully, and as soon as it "bottoms out", (stops turning), I back it off about 1/2 or 1/4 turn. Otherwise, it will get on there extremely tight, and we have had to put it in a vise to get it off once when I tightened it all the way. I also put some grease on the threads to help it spin easily. Doing that, it comes off easily, and it doesn't leak. This kit did not come with any instructions, or any substantial mounting hardware. We had to use a scrap piece of aluminum to mount it, some custom fabrication was needed (nothing major though, just bent and drilled some aluminum.) And secured the catch can to it using some fasteners we had around. The hose that comes with the kit, I would not recommend using. It is just too thin, and I wouldn't expect it to last a long time. I used some 3/8" heater hose from a local auto parts store, and that works great. (May have to use different depending on your engine). The thread sealing tape that comes with the kit isn't that great either, so I used some better teflon tape. Otherwise, this is a great product.

So, I installed this piece on my 2000 Ford Lightning F150. After seeing the sticker shock on some of the aftermarket air/oil separators, I decided that there was no way I was going to fork over the money to get one of those set ups. Firstly, the catch can itself is nice. It has a baffled area at the inlet, and the inlet is completely isolated from the outlet internally so there is no alternate path for the air or oil to travel. The dipstick is a nice touch, and despite it not having an O-ring it seals up perfectly. I did not experience the nasty smell or find any metal shavings like some others did. I give this unit 4 stars simply because of the catch can itself. The reason I did not give 5 stars is because the hoses and fittings leave a lot to be desired. The fittings are okay, and they work well enough, but they honestly feel like they are made of plastic. Having said that, I am currently using them and they are doing their job. However, the hoses are absolute trash. The hose is a very soft rubber with no reinforcement whatsoever, and it will collapse with engine vacuum alone which is a big problem. Get yourself 4 or 5 feet of 1/2" fuel hose that is reinforced from a local auto parts store and you are in business. Overall, I would buy this again and I am considering adding one to the driver side valve cover as well just to be extra safe and because it is cheap modification.
